Timing and Firing Orders

the timing is 1342 but in reversed rotation ,counter clockwise ,normally when i had this problem it ran but not very good,just goofing around tried it reversed and holly smoke ,the thing hauls --------- .if this doesnt help you maybe this will .the distributer cap is not the right one ,if its not original Volvo, volkswagon can be used except the hold down clips arent in the right place ,to remedy this you have to move the clips about one quarter to one half of an inch,to find out the right place ,i will assume you know nothing so ya don't screw itv uptake out spark plug number 1 closest to belts on front of motor ,get a socket with ratch the size of the biggest pully in front of motor,which is the same size as the spark plug socket ,turn large pully bolt clock wise at the same time putting your fonger in spark plug hole,keep turning nut until you feel pressure pushing agaist your finger you will hear the iar pushing past your finger out of the spark plug hole ,if ya don't feel any thing keep turning,thenkeep turning slowly until no more pressure is felt,get screw driver put into spark plug hole you should feel the piston close to the top ,move the nut forward a little and then back a bit while keeping one hand on the csrew driver you will note it will go up a little and then down do this until you think the piston is top dead center.,look at the rotor where its pointing it should be pointing to the number one cylinder,when you put the distrbuter cap on it should be pointing to one of the four loabs on the cap,if not your cap is a volkswagon not a Volvo,you can with a buffer cugrind a notch in the volk.cap where the little piece of metal sticks up as a guide for the cap,i found it fits better if you remove the distrib.and re drill the holes make new threads for the clips to fit the cap but remember you have to leave the other small screws where they are as it holds the points support in place,its hard to explain with out a picture,if you need more info email me.Kevin kevineehollee@hotmail.com

Lots of time and patience... I had to change the timing belt on my 97 sportage last summer. I subscibed to the kiatech.com service for $1o for a week and downloaded and printed EVERYTHING i could think of. It took me the better part of ten hours on a saturday. Watch out for the thermostat housing, it's a pain to get off.. in fact, i contacted 5 mechanics to find out how to get it out, and every one said to "beat on it with a hammer" .. i did, and an hour later, it came out. That was the hardest part, the rest is just time consuming taking apart and putting together. Good luck!

No. The 272 & 292 V8 installed in the 1957 Ranchero were not supercharged.

1992 Chevy 350, you need to unplug the brown wire under the black cover on the pass side firewall. Then make sure its timed on 0 measured at the front of the damper. If it does not run right take off the dist cap and with a socket and long breaker bar have someone watch the dist rotor as you turn the engine reverse rotation, what you are looking for is a slack in the timing chain. If their is significant slop, then retime engine 2 degrees advanced til it is running good again. When you are done reconnect the brown wire and put the plastic cover back on. Done.

The firing order for a 4 cylinder 1994 Buick Century is 1, 3, 4, 2. For the 6 cylinder engine the order is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

You Can get that from a Repair manual. If you go to the local library they probably have one. You may try Autozone and they may be able to give you the info ,if not they will sell you a inexpensive repair manual. I'm pretty sure you have a 4.9ltr engine for reference.Its called firing order. You will need to take the cap off and make sure the rotor is pointing to number one. The manual will reference this for you and show you which one on the cap is #1

you won't believe this but it is 1-2-3-4-5-6 on v-6 and 1-3-4-2 on four cylinder

1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2 with numbers 1,3,5,7 being on the drivers side.
