The distributor rotor turns COUNTERCLOCKWISE

The marked # 1 position on the distributor cap faces towards the REAR

I have a 1997 XJ6 and the Vehicle Care booklet states that for both the 4.0 litre and the supercharged is 1-5-3-6-2-4

3.8L v6 firing order. 1-6-5-4-3-2

If it's a small block GM it should be 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

The difference is as follows; The 1988 Ford 2.3l came equipped with; -A cylinder head that housed a single spark plug per cylinder, and a "D" shaped intake port -A flat tappet camshaft -A distributor with Ford's TFI ignition system The 1994 Ford 2.3l dual plug came equipped with; -A cylinder head that housed 2 spark plugs per cylinder (both fire simultaneously in a typical "wasted spark" fashion), and a "swirl dam" intake port -A roller camshaft -Coil packs in place of the distributor, and a crankshaft position sensor housed inside the crankshaft pulley, commonly known as the "DIS" ignition system (distributorless ignition system) not to be confused with fords later "EDIS" system The switchover from single plug to dual plug 2.3l Fords were as follows; -1988 and older rangers are single plug -1989-1994 rangers are dual plug (1995-1998 2.3l dual plug rangers differ in many ways from the "early" dual plug engines) -1990 and older mustangs are single plug -1991-1993 mustangs are dual plug Note; 1989-1994 rangers & 1991-1993 mustangs share an identical engine for all practical purposes.

Same as it is with all inline six diesels (and most inline six engines, at that) - 1 - 5 - 3 - 6 - 2 - 4. Cat, Cummins, Detroit, Scania, Iveco, etc... all use the same firing order.

Remove spark plugs. Turn the engine over by hand until the #1 plug, (front plug drivers side) is at top dead center on the compression stroke. The rotor will be pointing to the #1 plug location on the distributor cap. Firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.

Ok, I have a 1991 Crown Vic, 5.8L-351Win, 2bbl, Police Model and the large sticker on the valve cover says "Firing Order 1,3,7,2,6,5,4,8". Hope that helps.

IN order to answer this question, the year of the motor is a necessity because the type of ignition differs. Yet, since you are talking about setting timing it is probably a motor with a distribuitor, as opposed to coil packs. To set timing, you must have a timing light; a light with an advance is optimal and what I use. Start off by connecting the power leads of the light to your vehicle's motor and the other lead wire to the number one cylinder plug wire on your motor (the cylinder on the right bank in the very front when facing the front end of the vehicle). Then, start the vehicle and point the timing light towards the left side of the harmonic balancer, there should be a small plate with an "A , 0 , and R". On the harmonic balancer, there should be a small tick mark that keeps moving, that will point out the timing. In order to adjust timing, you must move the distributor back and forth after loosing the retaining nut for it. Set the desired advance on your timing light and then move the distributor until you see the tick mark hitting "0". Optimal timing for a stock 350 is about 12 to 13�. after the timing is set, tighten up the retaining nut, shut down the motor, and clean up.

Moparman or whatever your name was, your answer has nothing to do with the question. And Gen III SBC are different. The first answer is right. Make sure you disconnect the ETC wire if your vehicle runs off a computer.

The 94 F-250 had the 5.8 Litre, 7.3 Litre IDI Diesel, and the 7.3 litre DI Powerstroke diesel. I will give you the firing order for all the 3 engines 5.8 Litre - 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 (Gasoline) 7.3 IDI Diesel, 1-2-7-3-4-5-6-8 7.3 Litre DI Powerstroke Diesel, - 1-2-7-3-4-5-6-8
