What is wrong with a 1992 Toyota Celica that starts to idle up and down then it eventually cuts off completely and sometimes it won't start right back up?

Answer

it might be a fuel pump

Answer

I don't know if this will help but it sounds as if your engine is ranging and that may be the oxygen sensor that was the problem we had with our car

Answer

I have this exact same problem with my 87 celica and I've been told it's the fuel filter or fuel pump.

This Could be a number of things but I know I was told the same thing you guys were told here but the truth of it is first pull out the plug were the spark plugs are do you see oil on it? if so this could mean you need new gaskets put in such as a head gasket or manifold gasket and valve cover gaskets good luck I once again I had the same problem told many things but it turned out to be this problem that I stated above.

1992 Toyota Celica GT engine vibration causes?

I have personal experience on this one! My car shook me like a ragdoll when sitting inside my car at stoplights! It also caused severe vibrations through the seats and headrests while stopped and while going much of the time. I was told by a local mechanic it was the right motor mount. Another mechanic looked at the right motor mount, while we had it out for another job. He thought it looked all right, so it went back in. After a couple of the other motor mounts were replaced, the engine noise was much less, and the seats and car frame vibrated a lot less for about a day---then it shook like before. I ordered a right motor mount and replaced the mount myself, and that made a HUGE difference in the noise the engine made, and in the seat vibrations. My car still vibrates at dead stops, which leads me to believe that the transmission-side mount (opposite the right motor mount and the other of the two most important engine mounts) never was replaced--though a mechanic claims he did the job. It hasn't been all that bad, so I haven't bothered putting the money into it yet, but a 1992 Celica with bad engine mounts can make your car twice as loud as a car with a bad muffler, if not three times as loud---where you actually can't really listen to music in your car comfortably and your head practically bounces off your driver's seat headrest and you feel vibrations that feel more like an earthquake going on!!! If you have your engine basically running on three spark plugs and with no catalytic converter on the car on top of that (like I did at one time).--yes a 9.5 on the Richter scale!! Bad motor mounts can cause great catastrophes in your car, including loosening your transmission to the point of falling out, if you wait long enough (I didn't experience this, ok?! But it can happen!)

How do you rewire a 1986 Toyota Celica derby car to bypass the computer and other irrelevant units?

Computer? Yeah, who needs it. It's only the heart and soul of your entire car. You can ditch the computer if you remove the entire intake and put on a carburetor, remove all the emission control components (remember to plug all the holes or you'll lose engine vacuum and that's BAD) and fabricate and install a manual fuel pump. Then replace the entire ignition system with an old "points" system that you'll have to replace every 3000 miles. (oh yeah, you'll have to tune that carburetor every year too). Have fun!

Why would the engine while accelerating bog down and lose power?

Dirty fuel filter, dirty air filter, bad catalytic converter, restricted exhaust, insufficient fuel pressure.

How do you remove the dash in a 1986 Toyota Celica to replace the stereo?

I'm not fully sure about the 86 year/model, but I did have an 86 Corrola and there were 4 screws mounted 2 at the top corners of the faceplate and 2 inside where the ash tray is located. I own a '92 celica and you first have to pull/un-snap the cover around the shifter. Then you remove the 2 screws at the bottom of the coverplate around the radio (it's at the crux of the radio coverplate and the shifter coverplate). Once you remove those 2 screws, the rest snaps out easily.

Why would a 1991 Toyota Celica not start when engine is hot Battery is good but no sound when key turned in ignition.?

Battery is probly good. If it was bad there would usually be a series of clicks while trying to start. If the engine is is too hot then the computer is not gonna let the vehicle start. If it is not over heating then the coolant temp sensor is probably failing. This is what tells the engine what the the coolant temp is in the engine. Hope this helps some. Of course there are always other factors such as the engine is over heating the starter causing it not to start. Stuff like that. Impossible to say for sure. Just gicing you some things to check. Good luck.

Is a Toyota Celica considered a sports car?

It is defintely considered a sports car!

Actually it's a "sports coupe". The term sports car is in the eye of the manufacturer. There are no direct qualifiers.

When should you replace timing belt on 1996 Toyota Celica GT?

Every 60,000 miles, according to both corroborating online sources cited below, http://www.familycar.com/carcare/GatesFrame.htm http://autorepair.about.com/od/glossary/ss/timin-belt-inf2_7.htm However, since the 96 Celica has a non-interference engine*, a broken timing belt will not damage your engine as it would on these makes and models of Toyotas: TOYOTA

1986-95 1.5L Tercel

1981-83 2.2L Pickup

1984-87 2.4L Pickup

1982-88 2.8L Celica Cressida

1987-94 3.0L 4-Runner

http://www.rebuiltautoengines.com/toyota-celica-articles.html So unless you were having other problems, your worst case scenario is the car would just stop running and you would have to get it towed in to get the timing belt replaced. But if you're having the timing belt replaced, or if your having any kind of an oil leak, you might want to price having these items addressed because the the extra labor cost should be negligible since they would already be in there replacing the timing belt. Crankshaft Front Oil Seal

Camshaft Seal

Oil Pump Gasket/O-Ring

Oil Pump Seal

Valve Cover Gasket Spark Plug Tube Seals (have a little oil in one tube)

Oil Pan Gasket

...and possibly change the Water Pump and Thermostat ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *If the timing belt breaks on a non-interference design, there is enough clearance between the pistons and valves to prevent damaging contact. An interference design does not have sufficient clearance between those parts and engine damage would result from a broken timing belt.

Difference between alternator belt and serpentine belt?

This would depend on the year model of your car. Older models used several belts to turn various components (alternator, AC compressor, fan, etc) whereas many newer models just use one belt that "surpentines" itself around all of the components at the same time.
