Where is fuel filter on 1987 Volvo?

On a 1987 Volvo, the fuel filter is typically located along the fuel line, usually near the fuel tank or along the chassis. For models like the Volvo 240, you can find it underneath the car, often on the driver's side. It's a cylindrical metal canister secured by clamps or brackets. Always consult your vehicle’s service manual for the exact location and replacement instructions.

What does the abbreviation BTDC stand for?

BTDC stands for "Before Top Dead Center," which refers to the position of a piston in a combustion engine relative to the top of its stroke, usually measured in degrees of crankshaft rotation. This term is commonly used when discussing ignition timing in engines.

Volvo 740 turbo having electrical ground problems. How does some of the components keep gound when others fail?

There are numerous ground points on a Volvo 740. The two most troublesome are located on the left and right inner front fenders - on the driver side is the ground for the coil and some lights. On the passenger side is the ground for the radio interference relay, which is really a ballast for the fuel injection system. The engine computers are grounded to lugs on the intake manifold. All are subject to corrosion. Believe or not, the windshield wiper ground is also troublesome, as evident when the wipers won't park or won't even shut off. I ran auxiliary ground wires, #12 stranded, from battery negative, to EACH grounding point. I also cleaned the ground terminals on the inner fenders and coated the connections with dialectric grease. Use a 12 volt probe, on the lights up - put the alligator clip on battery positive and probe the grounding points. If the light lights and is strong, ground is good. Weak light or no light, ground is questionable.

Some of the Volvo control circuits run on as little as 3.5 volts. A flaky ground can cause all kinds of mysterious problems.

How do you remove the center console on a Volvo 740?

How do you repair a 1990 Volvo 740 GL that won't start but will turn over?

i have 89 gle it was doing the same thing , and it was the fuel injetor relay (black 1 undre the hood) I have a 1991 740 which suffers from no start when hot (engine turns fine). Apparently, and this is from a Volvo trained mechanic I'd trust with my life, the fault in these earlier models lies with the fuel pump relay (which he's replacing in a few days). The relay lies behind and slightly above the fuses which are accessed from behind the ashtray, and in an emergency may respond by being tapped a couple of times. Otherwise wait for around 20 minutes and try again.

How do you fix the speedometer on a 1991 Volvo 740?

If both speedometer and odometer do not work, usually the pulse signal are missing. E.g. the wiring coming from the rear differential where the sensor is located, can be deteriorated (broken or shorted).

If speedometer only is inoperative, it is easiest to change the whole speedometer. To repair it, you need to be able to work on electronics, disassemble the speedometer unit, access the printed circuit board, and usually replace the leaking electrolytic capacitors on that board, as well as clean the circuit board of the electrolyte. Some other components may be broken also.

How do you access and replace the fuel sensor in a Volvo 1990 740 GL?

The fuel sensor (which I'm assuming is the sender for your fuel gauge???) is an in-tank sensor on the float valve unit. To access the unit, you'll need to locate the large nut mounted to the top of your fuel tank (6" dia approx.). On our wagon/estate 740GL, this is located under the carpet in the cargo area, driver's side. Fold rear seats forward, remove carpeted panels. You will find a black metal, square cover plate held on w/ 4 screws. Remove it and you'll find the Fuel tank access. The fuel float, pump, sensor are all on the same assembly, but all pieces are replaceable. The float valve is quite expensive, but if removed and work carefully, will still function after pump or sensor are replaced. We found that our float was bad upon reinstallation and wouldn't register below 1/4 tank. It was not a problem with the sensor, but a stuck float valve. Hope this helps.

If I replaced a bad battery in a 1992 Volvo 740 but the engine won't turn over what could be wrong?

Check the following....battery connections, look for loose connections, corroded connectors or cables. Check connections at the starter. If possible (if you have tools and know how) check for proper voltage at the starter.

Volvo 740 cruise control--how much vacuum does the pump supply?

The Volvo 740 typically uses a vacuum-operated cruise control system that relies on a vacuum pump to function effectively. The vacuum pump generally supplies around 15-20 inches of mercury (inHg) of vacuum pressure, which is sufficient to operate the cruise control actuator. It's important to ensure that the vacuum lines are intact and free of leaks for optimal performance. If you're experiencing issues, checking the vacuum levels and the condition of the pump can be a good starting point.

What is the weight of a 1988 Volvo 740?

A general question will net a general answer. The short answer is around 3000lbs, give or take about 250 pounds, depending on options. Automatic transmissions add about 150 over the manual, and wagons another 250. Basically, if its a turbo wagon with auto, it will be about 3300, if its a base level sedan with manual, it will be about 2850lbs.

My 740-1990 sedan, B230F, AW-71 transmission (automatic), w/o turbo,

From my car registration 1358Kg * 2.2046 pounds = 2993,85 pounds
