There are "monitors" or self tests the computer runs the car through a drive cycle, if a problem occurs, it may not run all of the self tests until that problem is taken care. Therefore, another problem may exist. It is emission related. OR hook up a scanner that is capable of clearing codes, and hope that none are still active. Disconnecting the battery can create other headaches and will not likely solve your dilemma. But understand that many scenarios are possible with the "check engine light" The vehicle's powertrain computer (note that some vehicles have 17 different computers) will run a series of self-tests. They will only run under certain criteria. And they can be vastly different from manufacturer to manufacturer. Some self-tests are not run until preceding ones have run successfully. So if there is a problem in one particular area that is preventing another self test from running, you can have a situation where one problem is fixed, but another still exists. If you fix a problem and drive the car through a drive cycle that sets the monitor (or self test) the light will go off as it passes that criteria that triggered it in the first place. The alarm system is integrated into the Comfort Control Module and cannot be disabled, it is behind the dash under and to the left of the steering column I believe. there are two electrical connectors going to it. one is the main harness for all the interior electronics and such. Then there is a smaller connector which the alarm portion of the module uses to flash the lights and sound the horn. This plug can be disconnected with no ill effects. The alarm will essentially be "disabled" but you will still hear a clicking coming from a relay in the Comfort Module anytime the alarm would usually sound, usually lasting for 30 seconds.

If it's anything like the 1.9tdi model, it's behind the glovebox.

You'll need to remove the lower panel - this is how you gain access to the cabin air, paper filter (Refer to Haynes manual to find this).

Take that out and look inside - you will see the blower resistor is attached by one screw, however, it is a pain to access. It looks like a heat-sink.

After cutting my hand to shreads, I got the drill out and made a hole to gain access to the screw.

After removing the screw, push from above (after you remove the glove box and white pollen filter sheet) there's a few cable-ties to cut.

Disconnect the socket that is connected to the resistor and push it into the air box - getting the unit out via the air filter access point is a pain - I broke mine a little, there's just not enough space - It's nothing a little superglue cannot fix.

A new unit costs about £40 - I am yet to get a new unit and to put it back together, but now I have more room to get my hand in, it will be much easier. I can only assume the car was built around the unit and the person who designed this is a sadist.

To do this without breaking the plastic involves taking the entire dashboard out, so this is a botch fix, but will save me a £500 cost via the main dealer.

Expect your airbag lights to come on these will need to be reset by disconnecting the battery for over half an hour.

Jack and prop up front axle for safety. There may be a board lining the underside of the engine bay which will have to be removed. When you have clear access for for the radiator, search for plug or tap on bottom edge of the radiator, and remove. Water will then drain out. If you can't find the plug/tap, you'll have to remove the rubber hose from the base of the rad to achieve the same effect. Take cap off top of rad, and also the one on the expansion tank located nearby and connected to the rad by a hose.

Replace pug at bottom, mix coolant and fill steadily the radiator. When full, run the engine on tickover for a while to get rid of any airlocks in the system. Replace caps on radiator and expansion tank.

DO NOT DO THIS ON A HOT ENGINE!!

On the driver's side brake pad there is the sensor. The two wires are connected and keep the light off, when the pad wears down enough that the wires become disconnected, then the light comes on, I just changed mine, they were about $50 and took me about an hour to completely change. It would be the best way to get the light off as far as I'm concerned.

There is a little door on the right of the ash tray. You to remove the ash tray an then move the door to the left and you will see the plug.

You can get them fixed....

Bearing needs to be pressed old out and new pressed in. Cost about $40 to have it removed from auto shop. But you can install it by chilling (freezer) the replacement bearing overnight and then heat the hub (200 oven don't want to melt the inner bearing seal) and drive the new bearing in with a soft hammer or wood block. Don't forget the bearing seals innerfirst before the bearing and then outer after bearing is in. Best to remove hub and do it on a bench.

2 reasons: Normal for the engine to build oil pressure after starting. Use of the wrong oil filter. I recommend Mahle, Mann or VW oil filters. FRAM and other US filters should not be used as they have poor or no anti-drainback valves in the filter causing oil starvation at startup.
