How do you calibrate the timing on a 1984 VW rabbit?
There's a plastic plug at the top of the transmission's bell housing. Open this up. This is where you will shine your timing light. At the base of the distributor, there is a 13MM bolt that you will need to loosen. Only loosen it up enough to turn the distributor and no more.
With the car running, shine your light into the bell housing hole. You should see a mark on the fly wheel. As you turn the distributor back and forth, you will see the mark move in the light of the strobe.
If you're trying to time a Rabbit that won't start, line the mark on the flywheel up with the hole by turning the crank manually with a break bar. On the cam wheel, you should see a small dot. If this dot is lined up with where the valve cover meets the top of the front of the head then the valve timing is at TDC. If it's not, loosen the timing belt and turn the cam until it is lined up. Take off the distributor cap. You should see a notch in the body of the distributor. The rotor should point to this notch at TDC. If it doesn't, loosen the distributor and turn it until the notch lines up. Once the mark on the flywheel, dot on the valve cover and notch on the distributor are all lined up, your car is at 0° TDC.

On a vw 1981 1.6 diesel How do you set the cylinder head to tdc if the head is out of the engine?
In the back of the cam shaft there is a slot that must be "level" with the head. Slide a flat stock of steel in the slot. Both valves must be closed on #1 cylinder. This can be determined when both the cam lobes are pointing up.
How do I overhaul a 1982 VW rabbit FI Pump?
Gas? Better to buy one that has been overhauled. Diesel. Buy one that is either new or has been overhauled or is at auto salvage and is the same as yours. Turbo FI pumps are different than regular pumps.
What does it mean if your rabbit has many cecotropes?
No matter how often they seem to be eating cecotropes, if your rabbit is eating them all and you're not finding any left over, there's nothing to worry about! Rabbits eat cecotropes so they can get the full nutritional value from their food.
If you're finding cecotropes left over, though, something's not right. If it only happens once, make a note of it and mention it to your vet at your next regular appointment. It could have just been passing stress or anxiety.
If it keeps happening for more than a day or two, something is wrong, and you should call your vet, explain the problem and maybe go in for a special appointment.
Perhaps your rabbit is over-producing cecotropes because his diet is too rich in protein and fat. In that case, you should adjust his diet: more hay, less pellets (and possibly find a higher-quality pellet that's lower in fats and protein), less fruits and sugary veggies (these are treat foods), and more fresh greens (like Romaine lettuce, basil, and cilantro).
Perhaps your rabbit is unable to reach his cecotropes. In that case, your rabbit may be too obese and needs to go on a diet. Diets can be dangerous with rabbits, so you should speak with your special, rabbit-savvy vet. Or, your rabbit might have mobility problems (due to an injury, or arthritis, or "head tilt," or something like that). Mobility problems could be very, very serious, so bring him to a vet and find out for sure what's going on.
Where is the location of the thermostat on a 1981 VW Rabbit Diesel 1600?
Right next to the water pump just about the oil pan. Follow the lower radiator hose and it goes right to an elbow held on by two bolts. Thermostat is behind that elbow.
Will a bad coil prevent the car from starting?
Yes as the coil provides the spark or fire to ignite the fuel. Most definitely on a vehicle with one coil. On a vehicle with multiple coils, it may start but miss.
Where is the oil filter located on a 2006 VW Jetta?
Remove the lower engine shroud(6 or so torx screws)...the oil filter is enclosed in a black plastic housing which has a small drain plug which can be used to empty the filter housing before loosening. The filters are dealer items only and come with a new rubber gasket for the housing. Be sure to remove the old one before installing the new. The filter is just a fiber cartrige that is inserted in the plastic housing. Find a good wrench and don't break anything!
I've found the filter cartridges at most auto parts stores. Autozone has a "B" style filter wrench that fits the housing perfectly. ($5.99)

How do you change the low beam headlight bulb on an S60 Volvo?
Low beam bulb
To remove a defective bulb:
To install a new bulb:
Changing the Low beam headlights on a Volvo S60 2.5T
It will take you at least one hour to complete this bulb replacement. Although the Volvo manual tell you to release the retaining spring there is no spring to release on the 2005 Volvo S60 2.5 T
First start with the driver side you will need to remove the air filter and it housing. After removing the filter pull up hard on the housing and it will release from the three snaps. This will give you easy access to the low beam headlight.
Remove the rubber cover and reach in to the cavity and turn the bulb assembly to the right a quarter turn if you are in front of the car. Gently pull the bulb out with the connecter attached. Make sure the orange gasket come out with the assembly.
Disconnect the connector from the defective bulb and connect it to the new bulb assembly. Insert the new bulb into the cavity and line up the three prongs, look thru the lens to make sure it is lined up properly then make a quarter turn to the left. Put back on the rubber cover and the filter housing.
On the passenger side all you have to remove is the rubber cover and use that same procedure to replace and replace the bulb assembly.
How do you remove the engine cover for 2007 Volkswagen Rabbit?
Careful not to break it like I did. Remove big clamp from air intake (about 4" diameter plastic hose) and the two torx screws that join the rectangular air intake to near the grill. Then it is just a matter of applying pressure, pulling up, one corner at a time. Like someone said, it's like pulling the cork out of a wine bottle.
How do you replace the front shocks on a 1981 VW Rabbit pick-up?
Tools needed: Safety glasses; wheel chocks; safe jack and jackstands; MacPherson strut spring compressor; 17mm open end wrench; 17mm 1/2 drive socket; 1/2 drive ratchet; 13mm open end wrench; 6mm or 7mm or 8mm hex (Allen type) key; 22mm deep socket with a slot cut for hex key; 1" crescent wrench; large pliers; two 6X6 blocks of wood; optional: chisel, white-out, impact wrench. Chock rear wheels, set parking brake. Loosen, but don't remove, the front lug bolts. With car on the ground, loosen (but don't remove) the two small nuts on each strut tower in the engine bay. Use the 13mm end wrench for this. At the proper lifting point on the car, raise it and support it with jack stands. Finish removing wheel lug bolts and carefully remove the wheels. Place them out of the way, never underneath the car. With the chisel or white-out, mark the top eccentric bolt on each suspension strut housing. This bolt affects the camber, and to some extent, toe. If you don't mark this, you'll have an interesting time driving the car :) Remove the two bolts holding the strut to the wheel bearing housing (aka, hub). You really should support the control arm and the CV assembly, so jam a block of wood beneath each control arm. Finish removing the top small bolts on the strut towers. The strut assemblies are now relatively free. Depending on the amount of dirt and undercoating and grime on them, they'll need a bit of convincing to come off the wheel bearing housing. Place one of the spring compressors to grab 5 or 6 coils. Tighten it so it doesn't fall off, but don't compress the spring. Then, at 180 degrees opposite, attach the other spring compressor. Tighten each compressor EQUALLY! This is soooo important to doing this job safely. The spring will rattle freely within the strut assembly when it is loose enough to be SAFELY removed. Keep in mind there's plenty of potential energy stored in those compressed springs to maim you or kill you, or someone else. When, and only when, the spring is practically flopping around in the strut housing, do you remove the nut that holds the cap on. Use a piece of paper to draw how the components come out, or place the components on your bench so you know the proper arrangement. If the strut bearing is cracked, replace it. They're cheap. Get the little spacer/bushing at the same time. Chances are excellent you'll be working on a car that doesn't have the spacer/bushing installed. Put one back in it...the factory put 'em in for a reason. Once the strut assembly has been disassembled, you really should release the spring to it's normal height. I know a lot of people that skip this step, but it's totally okay to be safe. Using the large pliers, remove the collar screw that holds the strut cartridge within the strut housing. Don't discard, because it's entirely possibly your struts didn't come with the collar screw. If you bought German stuff, you'll get the new pieces :) DO NOT dump the mineral oil you find inside the housing onto the ground! That's a nasty thing to do. Make sure it gets into a container and is marked as waste! Reinstall the new cartridge into the strut housing, and re-affix the collar screw. If your collar screws don't fit, use the screws that came off when you pulled the old cartridges out. Some cheap inserts have tons of paint on them, which makes fitting a bit tough. Sand the inside of the collar screw and clean it before rechecking the fit. NEVER sand the paint off the strut insert! The rest of the procedure is the reverse of removal. Remember to be very careful with the spring compressor, letting each side out evenly. I highly recommend having your Bunny aligned at this point, even if you were super-careful in replacing the eccentric bolts. Enjoy your new ride! P.S: You'll need the spring compressor on the back shocks, too :)
How do you change out the low beam headlight bulbs on a 2000 Mazda Millenia?
under the hood, at the back of the headlight assembly, you'll see a round plastic dome. This is the seal to the headlight. Unscrew it (1/4 to 1/2 turn) look for and release the 'pin' that holds the halogen bulb in place and the bulb will easily slide out of its housing. Check your manual as well, it'll have full illustrations.
How do you change the high beam headlight bulb for a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 Pickup?
There are 3 bolts that have to be removed and 2 screws. You need a long extension to get to the one bolt that near the outter fender. It is hard to see this bolt. To get the other 2 bolts, I had to flex(press down)the front bumper plastics so I could insert the sockets and get to the bolts. The 2 screws are easy to get to and along the seam between the hood and the lighthousing. These 2 screws simply hold the rubber flap that is along the seam in place.
Once the housing is removed, undo the retaining clip and unscrew the light bulb holder. Reinstall in the opposite manner
Its easier to just open the hood and undo the back side of the bulb all you do is twist it out and replace the bulb the driver side may require you to undo the fuze box which is only 4 bolts much easier than removing the entire headlight assembley.

How do you calibrate or adjust the speedometer on a 1983 VW Rabbit GTI with a manual transmission?
Short Answer:
The speedometer cable drive gear, at the transmission end of the cable.
It is available in three different ratios. Each ratio is identified by color and is matched with the transmission code. A completely stock 1983 Rabbit GTi, with a transmission code of 4K, uses the red gear (VW P/N 171.957.821B).
Procedure:
Remove the speedometer cable at the transmission.
Remove the gear, held on by an internal spring clip and replace with one that corresponds to your transmission code or calculated final-drive ratio.
Make sure it seats on properly, you should feel a slight click. Give it a light tug to make sure it won't fall off. Then screw/bolt the clamp back down, You don't want the gear to come off and jam the transmission.
Things to consider:
The wheel and tire's rolling diameter will affect the accuracy of the speedometer. Tread wear and wheel/tire size are a couple of variables. The actual diameter of tires also vary between manufacturers, product lines and production runs.
Calculation of the final drive ratio against the wheel diameter will need to be done if you don't intend to maintain the stock rolling diameter of the tire when changing wheel/tire size.
If the transmission has been replaced, likely it's a different set of ratios. Sometimes this is intentional (to get better highway mileage, for example), but often it's not. The early GTi's stock gear ratios are among of the shortest that Volkswagen produced, some later diesels and fuel-economy variants, the longest. Each application requires a different drive gear to be accurate. Often, the relatively low-production GTi tranny gets replaced with a more common transmission, typically due to cost, availability of serviceable units or for the lack of a better understanding of the parts involved.
The mechanical speedometers themselves, as far I have experienced, are all geared the same. For example, a 1991 16v Jetta GLi speedometer will read properly in a 5-speed 1979 Scirocco, other factors aside, if the drive gear is matched correctly.
A binding cable and other damage or wear to other speedometer drive components may also need to be addressed.
