What kind of jobs are available with an associate of arts degree?

Advice for obtaining a job with an associate's degree in psychology:

  • It's difficult to get a job with a psychology degree unless you have at least a Master's. An Associate's degree can only get you the most menial of psych jobs, like a medical receptionist or an orderly in an institution.
  • Most employers require experience along with the education. To get experience, try volunteering with somewhere maybe one or two days a week to get that experience.
  • You could work as staff in a residential treatment center for kids, adolescents, or young adults (working directly with the clients/patients). You could work at a state mental hospital as a psych tech. You may possibly qualify for a SSW license depending on the state you are in, which would open a bunch of other employment doors for you.
  • An associates degree will not help you very much in landing your first job. Even many assistant or intern positions require at least a bachelors, and to get fully certified you'll need a master's degree.
  • You might look for a job as drug counselor or on a crisis hotline. High-paying jobs will be very competitive and will probably require at least a bachelors degree, if not a masters or PhD.

What is an architect?

There are different types of architects, but generall they design and sometimes supervise the construction of buildings or other large structures. Salaries would vary depending location, size of building, etc.

An architect is a person who plans, designs, and sometimes oversees the construction of a building.

You need College preparatory courses, need to take physics, elective courses, mechanical drawings, computer science.

The following the typical process on a new commercial project:

1: Space Programming: the architect sits with the owner, developer and/or users of the new building to develop the best possible space layout, adjacencies, and goals of the project.

2: schematic design: The architect translates the owners wants and needs into a rough building design. Beginning with gestural models and drawings which helps the architect develop the language of the building and ending with mass studies and ultimately some sort of 3d model representing the building and style. This presented along with a rough, non detailed space layout will generally conclude the schematic design phase after many revisions.

3: Design Development: The owner agrees to the design and the architect begins to run with it. Ordering a site survey, perhaps some soils testing the architect now has enough information to layout a site design, foundation & structure(may subcontract a structural engineer), mechanical and electrical(may subcontract a Mech/Elec engineer), wall sections, building elevations, partition types, door and window schedules, code research, material choices, etc... In essence this is the point where most of the decisions about what the building actual is, gets decided.

4: Construction Documents: This phase takes the bulk of the time (40%-60%) and is where the architect and interns create the contract documents. these consist of detailed drawings showing every possible detail as it relates the the building, from how walls are made, how door jambs are to be constructed, how the exterior cladding is to be connected tot he structure, how the building is to be water proofed and insulated, roofing details, etc.. This is also the point where we write the specifications for the project, which is generally a thick 400 page book with detailed information on each and every product and installation in the project as well as general terms and conditions that the contractor must follow.

5:Bidding and Negotiation: This is the point where we hand off the construction documents to the owner and assist in getting and receiving bids, answering questions from the bidding contractors and subcontractors, issuing addenda and clarifications and ultimately helping the owner to choose the right contractor for the job.

6: Construction Administration: This is the construction part of the project where we act as the contract authority and force both parties (owner and contractor) to meet the contract requirements. This means checking show drawings and issuing supplemental drawings to help the contractor install and build things properly and to the specifications. This is one of the most important stages, because this is where the quality will either be great or terrible, depending on the accuracy of the previously made specifications and details and the quality of the contractor.

What are the working conditions for an artist?

First, talk with the client about procedure and regulations you will be following.
Have the client fill out a form of consent for the tattoo for legal reasons. You will need
to see their picture ID, and if they are under 18, you need to see birth certificate and an ID of the Client, as well as the parent, or legal documentation stating the client is emancipated, and an ID.
Talk with the client about the Design they want, and if it's going to look horrible, don't be afraid to make a suggestion. Try not to judge or impose your ideals on the customer, you wont make any money, and you will lose clientele.
After you get an understanding of what the customer wants, you will need to make a sketch of what they want, and have them approve. If the sketch is approved you will then
draw an outline, and place it on transfer paper. The transfer is applied to the skin with a tattoo goo, and then you start to tattoo.

As far as shop stuff goes. You need to keep the shop clean, keep all consent forms on file, and keep internments and tools clean. The chairs need to be wiped down before and after each client. Guns need to be auto-claved, and needles and ink caps need to be disposed of properly. Gloves need to be changed before and after the tattoo. As well as during clean up, and if you touch anything, gloves MUST BE CHANGED. Hands do need to be washed even if you are wearing gloves. Health Department guidelines have to be followed, or you can get your tattoo license taken away.

What are the benefits of being an actor?

The benefits of being an actor are:

  • Working at a craft you love with all your heart
  • Being able to play certain characters
  • Expressing most of your emotions for different movies
  • Of course making good money is a factor
  • Have fans scream out your name (you may have to change your name, but more young actors are keeping their given names.)
  • The feeling you have accomplished something and that you can roll in the glory of perhaps winning an Oscar for a good performance or Emmy.

Although you didn't ask here is a reality check about being an actor:

  • A very low percentage of young people are lucky enough to get into acting and you may be used and abused for bit parts and then you may not make the grade to becoming a popular actor.
  • If you are one of the lucky ones then your Agent will work his/her tail off to get you a role in a movie with one of the studios and you are basically a 'piece of meat' and a money machine. The more popular you are the more money your Agent and the Studio makes off you and that's all they care about. The odd time you may be lucky enough to find an Agent that really does care about you on a more personal basis, but it's rare.
  • If you are lucky enough to become popular then you actually really work your butt off. You are up at all hours; may have to travel to several cities or towns or even countries to make a movie. You may be gone for weeks to months. You may have to work in all types of weather and get over come fears you may have. Many actors have a fear of heights and water. If you think that a 'stand-in' will take your place you're earning the big bucks and are expected to do it and will be ordered to do it. The only break you'll get is a stunt person because the studio doesn't want to have their popular actor injured.
  • You may have to lose weight for one role and gain weight for another (not good on your body.) In most cases your Agent or the Studio don't care how you lose it, but lose it you must and so often the actor (especially women) will use diet pills which can be dangerous. Both male and female actors often get into the trap of 'uppers' and 'downers' to stay awake and go to sleep because they have to work long and odd hours.
  • You have to exercise and have a tough work-out to keep yourself in shape. Some women actors as well as men may need to 'bulk up' for a role and it takes many hours to months sometimes to get the effect the director wants for that particular role.
  • Your private life is no longer your own. You may love it at first when you are out trying to shop or just have a normal personal life and all the fans are all over you, but it only takes once (and it will) if you are extremely popular that hundreds upon thousands of fans can riot and it's a frightening experience for the actor (some actors have actually spoken of this in interviews.) Some fans want a piece of the actor's hair, clothing, etc.
  • You will find the Paparazzi your friend when you first start out and welcome them, but if you make the grade as a popular actor then the Paparazzi will be all over you like white on rice and not even your home or property is safe from them. If you sneeze the wrong way they are there! It affects your love life. YOUR life on your personal time is no longer your life, but that of the Paparazzi and all those fans.
  • If you make it your star is not always going to remain bright and there will always be another actor right behind you like your shadow that could well surpass you so it's time to know when you star is dimming and either get into Directing or get out of the business altogether.
  • Drug dealers see big money in actors and as soon as some young actors become a popular commodity and like to party and spend some of that money they are earning the drug dealers are more than willing to buzz around them and are often successful. That's why you hear of so many actors having problems with drugs.

So, if you think you can handle the down side of acting after enjoying fame for so long and love the craft then do it!

How do you get a job as a songwriter?

First, you must be very talented. But talent only takes you half of the way. You can't just expect to get discovered. If you want a record deal, you must work very, very hard and believe in yourself. First try singing anywhere you can. Festivals and fairs are very good, you can also try singing in restaraunts or karaoke. If you want a challenge, you can sing the national anthem at parades, runs, or sports games. If you don't have any experience singing for an audience, record labels will be reluctant to sign you. Also, you will go much farther if you know how to play an instrument- the more, the better. Start with the guitar or piano, but you will probably eventually have to learn to play the guitar- it is just an essential instrument most singing stars learn how to play. Once you know how to play an instrument, if you have the ability, try writing songs. Perform these songs the places you sing. If you don't have the ability, that's okay- that's where our next step comes in: make a demo CD. Making one is very simple. You can record one in a professional studio or at home with a special recorder device. You can use your own songs or covers. Once you have this, give it to any record labels that you want to sign you. If they are impressed, they will give you a record deal. Make sure your demo is good quality- they won't listen to it if it isn't, plus it will damage your reputation. No demo CD is better than a CD of poor quality, because it will close some doors for you. You can search more about demo CD's online.
