Air Compressors

A machine for generating compressed air, typically for use by air-powered tools or paint sprayers. The compressor takes in air at atmospheric pressure, and increases it to any pressure between 1 psi above atmospheric, and 10,000 psi above atmospheric. Air compressor motors can range from fractions of a horsepower, to multiple thousands of horsepower.

What are the causes for Chevy Suburban air compressor failure?

No oil in compressor - wether it works or not, it still needs that special ac oil -

1992 Ford Taurus air compressor locked up breaking the belt that controls it and the powersteering unit is it possible to bypass the compressor with a bigger drive belt to regain steering unit?

Generally you can disconnect the clutch control wire connector and the clutch will not engage the bad compressor. Then you can install a new original belt. .. If both the clutch and compressor are locked up you can try to find a shorter belt and bypass the compressor. I would think this may be difficult because I don't believe they make a lot of different lengths in those type belts... You might find a good used clutch at a used auto parts yard and replace your bad one - just don't hook up the wires. luck!

How do you use the built in compressor on a 1998 Pontiac Transport Montana?

When I bought my 1998 Pontiac it came with a kit that had the hoses. On left side of van by the lift gate is a panel cover. Take it off & insert the hose. The compressor should work. At least that's how mine works.

Which is true when a radial compressor and an axial compressor with equal air flow and revolution are compared?

I don't understand the question. It would appear that you wish to compare a centrifugal compressor and an axial flow compressor operating at the same speed and delivering equal flow rates. What is the process fluid? What is the question? Is the "equal air flow" the mass flow rate? At what pressure differential would you like to consider these machines? What is it that you wish to compare? Is it weight, frontal area, mechanical efficiency, overall diameter, length, delivery temperature, input power or what?

Can you drive a car off the lot with a blown head gasket?

The answer is Yes, The car will run and drive but here are a couple of examples of what is happening. Blown head gaskets allow anti-freeze coolant to flow into parts of the engine it shouldn't. If the coolant is going into the piston cylinders the car will smoke a lot. If it is going into an oil passage it will turn you oil into a milk like state. Lastly the bad gasket may just allow the anti-freeze to leak out of the engine onto the ground. In all cases the car will drive but not for long.

How do you add oil to the air conditioning compressor and what type of oil is used?

I am retrfitting ac on 93grand am and the refridgerant cans to recharge it say "includes oil". I have to have the ac system evacuated and was told this would pull most of the oil from compressor out. One guy said the oil weren't compatible so I should remove compressor and dump the oil out the back of it. Hope this helped

How do you repair an air conditioner on a 1996 Nissan Sentra that only works on level 4 and nothing happens on levels 1 2 and 3?

A resistor block controls the speed of the AC/Heater fan. These resistors are switched on and off in various combinations to create the different fan speeds. When the resistors burn out, your fan will only work on the "HI" setting. The "HI" setting doesn't use any of the resistors and that's why it works. These resistors are near the blower and the blower is beneath the dashboard on the pasenger side. A/C is probably fine. If you try the heater, it will show the same problem as your question.

How do you know if the air conditioner compressor is bad If its bad what other things should you be looking to replace for a used 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee found one and compressor was not coming on?

Press one of the Schrader Valves to see if pressure is there. Turn AC on and look at the compressor clutch for engagement. If it won't kick on, the system is low or the compressor is bad must replace receiver/dryer asst also.

How does a reciprocating air compressor work?

Both valves are closed when the piston is at top dead center ( TDC ) As the piston moves down, creates vacuum. The athmospheric pressure opens the intake valve allowing the cylinder to be filled with air. The intake valve will close at the point when the piston reaches the bottom dead center. ( BDC ) The piston start moving up compressing the air above. As the pressure increases, the outlet valve opens and the piston pushes the pressurized air to leave the cylinder. The pressurized air moves to the air tank. The oulet valve closes at ( TDC ) During compressor operation, the above process is repeated. Both valves are being operated by the pressure differences against springs. Reciprocating compressors do not have camshafts like the internal combustion engines. John

Air not wooking on a 1997 deville Cadillac?

Assuming that the a/c was in good shape before it suddenly stopped working, the problem is probably the blower motor. As it turns out, this is very common. Try searching answered questions under "blower motor 1997 Cadillac Deville" I just had to change mine in a 1996 Deville. Motor aprox. $240.00/Labor aprox. $100.

How do the air bags on a 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII decompress to make the car sit lower and can it be done by anyone?

45 seconds after you turn the ignition off, passengers get out (no weight on the front seats) AND you close the doors, the system will automatically vent and drop the car by one (1) inch. If any of those three conditions are not met, it won't drop. You can usually hear the solenoid valves open and close when it is doing that. When the engine is started, passengers get on or off and doors are open and closed, the system will check and adjust for normal "city driving" height as needed. When driving at speeds over 60 MPH for more than 45 seconds, the system will vent and drop the car by one (1) inch for better stability, raising it back to the normal "city driving" height when the speed drops below 40 MPH for more than 45 seconds. If the car is unevenly loaded (portly passenger on one corner, for example), the system will automatically adjust and level the car. Venting is done by opening the individual solenoid valves on each bag and the master vent valve on the compressor with the compressor off. Inflating is done by turning the compressor on and opening the individual solenoid valves, with the master vent valve closed. Front bags are controlled individually, rear bags are controled in tandem.

Where the air conditioning relay for a 1998 Ford Escort Wagon is The compressor is not starting.?

Most of the relays for the ford escort are located under the hood in a black box with white labelling on it. Also check your underdash fuses. If this doesn't repair the problem, then you might have to replace the air compressor, as they sometimes do set up.

The AC compressor relay, and the AC wide-open throttle cut-out relay are in a box under the air cleaner. It is called the multi-function relay. Try tapping on it while the AC switches are on and see if it will start to work.

How do you remove the air-pump assembly on a 2000 Ford Mustang?

the air pump is inside the passanger front fender behind the headlight. the easiest way to get to it is to remove the front passanger wheel pull out the wheel well and its right there. there are two plugs only. unplug those first. there are also 3 bolts that connect the black frame of the air pump module to the frame or chassie of the car. then last there are two hoses that come off of the pump 1 has a funny looking type breather cap on it the other is connected to a plastic pipe that goes up into the engine compartment pull this one out from the hose out of the pipe that goes to the engine. good luck the old pump electric motor is probably corroded. im still working the kinks out even after replacing the old pump last week. i went from code p1413 to p1414 & p1413. like i said good luck.

Is the compressor for a Lincoln Town Car air suspension supposed to pump out a lot of air or just a little I can barely fill the air when the compressor is running. I think the compressor is bad.?

The piston on that compressorcylinder has a bore of 0.9835" and a stroke of 1.646". As you can tell by those dimensions it is not going to push a lot of air on each stroke. It will build a lot of pressure. Your vehicle has about 90 psi when operating under normal load conditions. The main cause for a compressor failure is because the bags dry rot and start to leak. When you see the vehicle lower in the morning than the night before. That is your first indicator that there is a leak. Remember just because the pump comes on does not mean that it can generate 160 psi at 12 volts 5 amps.

If you are trying to diagnose your problem with the air system, look all over it!! There are so many things that could go wrong with it. I do say that what my car went down I called Strutmasters.com and talked with a very nice guy who helped me out and got me the correct kit for my car. It was only a few days and the UPS delivered it. I was very glad that I chose the non air conversion kit. I love it! I saved a bunch of money and time with the conversion kit.

Why are a 1996 Lumina and a 1996 Sonoma both blowing out hot air if the compressor is working you put freon in and checked the fuses?

Maybe you have a bad heater core and it's causing the ac to blow hot air in instead of blowing cold air inside your car that's what's wrong with my 91 Chevy Caprice and we put freon and checked it and it blows hot air like what you are saying i was told that it was something with the heater core so to my knowledge it sounds like the heater core is bad in your car or cars try replacing it or having someone replace it and see if that works it worked for me now i have cold air again hope i was able to help you with your question

Answercheck your airflow valves, also check the heater valve it could be stuck open, could even install a manual valve(s)
