I would suggest not changing it yourself when I did it I was told to loosen alternator then its in the way ended up messing up the power steering hose. just cheaper to take it to your local kia dealer

Remove the belt from your Mercury alternator. Remove the wiring harness from the alternator. Remove the retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install your new alternator.

I have a 02 with 4.6l if it is the same it is pretty easy to do,go to autozone.com and look up repair info then go to repair guides you have to set up a free membership and it will let you view the repair guides for free,they are very helpfull

The entire shelve that holds the wiper arm and wiper motor assembly unbolts from the firewall in one piece. Once this shelve is out of the way the alternator will be exposed.

You have to remove the brake master cylinder and remove alternator through there.

1/ Jack up the front of the car and remove the drivers-side front wheel.

2/ Lay under the car and unscrew the 2 hex screws that hold the plastic alternator drive belt cover to the front drivers-side chassis, and remove to expose the crankshaft pulley, idler, tensioner and air-con compressor pulley (if fitted).

3/ Working under the car: take a 14mm spanner and locate it on the end of the tensioner bolt and firmly rotate clockwise (relieving the spring tension) to slacken and remove the belt.

4/ While rotating the tensioner with your spanner, pass a 4mm drill bit through a hole in the body of the tensioner and into a locating hole behind the tensioner to lock the tensioner in the (fully-slackened) position, you can then use both hands to easily remove the belt from all but the top (power steering) pulley.

5/ Always draw a sketch of how the belt is routed around the various pulleys to aid correct replacement and completely remove the belt (upwards and away) from the power steering pulley inside the engine bay.

All 5 steps are relatively easy and straight forward and should take around 20 minutes.

Replacement is the reversal of removal, remembering to check that the new belt is correctly routed around the pulleys, take up the spring tension with your 14mm spanner from under the car and remove the 4mm drill bit from the tensioner to allow the tensioner to remove the slack and automatically provide the correct tension to the new belt. before replacing the plastic cover, check that the crankshaft sensor (beside the crankshaft pulley) has not been accidentally disturbed. Fit 3 new cable ties and re-attach rubber pipe to belt cover once re-fitted to chassis, replace road wheel and remove the jack.

Job complete... 45 minutes max.

The battery will just run down and the engine will stop.

This can be caused by a weak or bad regulator switch.

this can be caused by 3 things that come to mind primary would be a bad voltage regulator about 14 dollars at local autoparts store, a slipping belt you prob already checked that, or in the case i am having ATM a bad ignition switch, i am looking for electrical scamatics so i can find a way to fix or bypass mine its being a pain to find

If the light remains on then the system still isn't charging as it should. Check the plug on the alternator and also that the wires to the alt have a good connection.

just take it to a mechanic.shop save your self busted knuckles and having to ask forgiveness for using bad language

Faceing the engine.move to the left side of your car. Looking inside and down.Find your belt.Follow the belt and your alternator should be below it.

i know how but i'am having a problem of explaining

first disconnect the negetive battery cable, serpentine belt, alternator electrical connections and then the alt. mounting bolts. easy stuff! install is reversal of removal. ps, dont over torque the bolt for the wire on the back of the new alt., just snug it up.

THE PROCEDURES OUTLINED HERE ARE VALID FOR TOYOTA TERCEL 1987 THRU 1994. 1. Detach the cable from the negative terminal on the battery. CAUTION: If the stereo in your vehicle is equipped with an anti-theft system, make sure you have the activation code before disconnecting the battery. 2. Detach the electrical connectors from the alternator. 3. Loosen the alternator adjustment and pivot bolts and detach the drivebelt. 4. Remove the adjustment and pivot bolts from the alternator adjustment bracket. 5. Remove the two bracket-to-water pump bolts and separate the alternator and bracket from the engine. NOTE 1: If you are replacing the alternator, take the old alternator with you when purchasing a replacement unit. Make sure that the new/rebuild unit is identical to the old alternator. Look at the terminals - they should be the same in number, size, and locations as the terminal on the old alternator. Finally look at the identification markings (they will be stamped on the housing or printed on a tag or plaque affixed to the housing. Make sure tha these numbers are the same on both alternators. NOTE 2: Many new/rebuild alternators DO NOT have a pulley installed, so you may have to switch the pulley from the old unit - Some shops will perform this service free of charge.

Use a wrench to loosen the tensioner which keeps tension on the belt. Once this is loose, pull the belt off of the tensioner. It will then come loose from the remaining pulleys (A/C compressor, water pump, etc.). A diagram should be located on top of the radiator showing the path of the belt to help you know how to install the new one.

how i went about it was completely removing the wiper assembly. motor,arms and all which allowed you to rotate the alt around and fish it out! not easy and a lot of 1/16th inch turns on a wrench but it beat rolling the engine forward if you don't have the tools!

we have a 460 ford in our jet drive boat. recently we have replaced the fotor and the alternator is not charging we are not sure if it is connected properly. It is currently connected with two wires. What Do you recommend?

my guess is the alternater is goin out or somethin is wrong with some sort of power source on ur ride

The voltage regulator is built into the alternator on all Contours, no matter what year or engine.
