# Disconnect negative battery cable # Detach the electrical connectors from the alternator # Loosen the alternator adjustment and pivot bolts and detach the drivebelt # Remove the adjustment and pivot bolts and separate the alternator from the engine # If you are replacing the alternator take it with you to auto parts store to get it tested to make sure it needs to be if you havent yet plus get core credit and make sure new alternator looks the same

Safety 1st. Engage parking brake and brace wheels. Disconnect the Neg. battery terminal. Label and disconnect the wires to alternator. From below and using the tire tool that came with the truck, release the belt tensioner by inserting the tool into the "slotted" opening and rotating ccw (counter-clock wise). Loosen and remove the alternator hold down bolts. Installation is in reverse order. Note: Partial information from Haynes Repair Manual, Chevrolet S-10 & GMC Sonoma, Haynes Publishing Group, #24071.

: : I just had to do this...not the toughest job I've ever tackled. : Start by removing the fan shroud (I didn't & it just made the task more difficult). Once the shroud is out of the way you'll have much more room to release the tensioner, using a 3/8" rachet, and removing the belt. Remove the top (13mm) bolt on the back (toward the fire wall), then remove the lower (10mm) bolt on the back. Then, while supporting the alternator, remove the front 10mm bolt. Rest the alternator on a frame member to remove the electrical leads...one snaps in and the other requires a 13mm socket. : Sidebar...1/4" rachet drives or "stubby" drives are helpful! : Installation really is the reverse of this! Connect the leads, put the front bolt then the back bolts in, and replace the belt! : Good Luck!!

you do mean shocks and not airbags right? well, you change shocks on the rear just like any other car with them but on a Lincoln the best way is to have the car resting all the way down,"with the airbag switch off". place a jack directly on the rearend and raise the vehical a little to release tension off the bolts. it's easier to put them on this way cause when you buy new shocks they are already compressed and its hard to pull or extend a compressed shock.

There is a good chance that your alternator has stopped working. It could also be just a loose wire from the alternator to the battery that is not letting the battery charge.

Also it could be a bad battery. When a cell in a battery dies it will hold a charge for a short period of time but then rapidly die. Get the battery checked first. they the wires, then the alternator.

sounds like the alternater squeling not the belt

Disconnect the battery then remove the fan shroud. Release the tension on the belt and pull it off the alternator pulley. I use a ratchet with a 3/8" drive inserted into the tensioner pulley for leverage, but I believe they have tool or pry bar for this. The alternator has three bolts keeping it attached, the two on the front are pretty easy to see and remove. On the back side of the alternator is a bracket attching it to the block. There is one bolt (don't remember what size) which is rough to get out. I was able to use a ratchet and deep socket to remove it. ONce I finally got it loose, I disconnected the wiring. Installation is the reverse!

I have a 97 Ford probe and when I had to replace my alternator... I had to pulled the passenger tire off and pull the whole assembly apart so I could get the alternator.. There are 2 bolts to loosen up and pull the belt out slide the alternator down by the exhaust and pull it out by the CV axle

You have to remove the passenger side wheel, and inner fenders, then the drive axle and heat shield, then you can get at it. From underneath.....sorry.

It is on the top of the engine, next to the ac compressor.

Check your Crankshaft position sensor. Located on the right of the crankshaft. Probably got damaged when belt broke.

You have to use a 1/2 inch breaker bar and put it in the square hole of the tensioner and turn it to release the tension of the belt.

The alternator really can be shorted out but you can cause a short if you contact the hot battery connection to ground. whenever you work on a car, you should really disconnect the negative battery cable. It takes that battery out of harms way and you too.

Somebody else may have a better way but I found it was easier for me by taking the two screws from the coolant reservoir and lifting it up out the way (without disconnecting), removing the bolts from the power steering pump (without disconnecting) and lifting it out of the way. Then remove the fan shroud. This will allow you ample room to get to and remove the alternator (which is located underneath the power steering pump). "GOOD LUCK"

The usual cause of a blown alternator is overload. The alternator will also blow if the battery is connected backwards, even for an instant, such as during jumping. Sometimes, overload is caused by attempting to jump start another car while revving the engine of the first car. The alternator is not designed to carry the current of a starter. Depending on the alternator, protection might be built in, but don't count on it. Rev the engine only to help charge the other battery, and then let the engine idle while starting the other.

jack up the passenger side the car on the front wheel side of the car put a jack stand on that side for safety and take the jack out. now take off the front tire,then take off the plastic splash plate then take 9/16" box wrench on end of the tension pulley and release the tension on drive belt and take it off the alternator.there two bolts one on the bottom and the top the top bolt is the hardist to get out and back in I used a short piece of plastic tubing big enough to fit snug on the head of the bolt you can try it when you get the bolt good and loose coming out,oryour fingers ,but going back with the bolt the tubing works great. good luck i have changed three on my 1994 saturn.and do not FORGET TO DETACH THE CABLE FROM THE BATTERY .

What would help would be an articulate question. Does "lose power" mean a loss of voltage/current, or a loss of engine power (horsepower/torque)?

the starter is connected to the bellhousing (the part of the transmission that connects to the engine) and sits above the tranny but on the fire wall side.

October 2007. This answer is incomplete. The bolt heads to unbolt the starter on the Sentra are located on the left side of the engine under the air cleaner and air inlet housing to the fuel injector intake. These housings must be removed to access the bolts heads, and then the starter is taken out from under the car on the right back side of the engine. The hardest part is disassembly of the intake housing to get to the bolt heads for starter removal.

It's simple actually. First disconnect the alternator. There is a connector that you have to unhook. There are only three bolts holding that thing on. The toughest part is putting the belt back on. I'm female and could do it myself! It is very easy to change. The nut on the tension pulley is a 15mm I do believe. Put a ratchet on there and use a "cheater bar" for leverage to pull the tension pulley back and the belt slips right on real easy.

i had a problem with the rough idle too, i had to replace my dpsr tube. It was cracked, as i was told was a common problem with our model and the particular parts they used.

most likely the alternator needs attention cause it is not charging

Disconnect batt

Remove wires from back

Loosen bolt on arm to release belt tension

Remove all bolts

Reverse to install

You will have to use a pry bar to pull alt while you tighten belt on arm to keep it taut.
