Brake Fluid and Lubrication

Cars, trucks, motorcycles and even bicycles use hydraulic braking. Brake fluid is used to transfer the force applied into hydraulic pressure. In contrast, lubricants enable parts to move opposite each other in a perpendicular manner.

Why is no brake fluid going to rear wheels 1998 Malibu?

Check the ABS Dump Valve. If not operating, little or no fluid to rear brakes.

How do add brake fluid to 1966 beetle?

Open the front hood and you'll see a little white plastic tank on the driver's side wall of the trunk above the gas tank. There SHOULD be a cap on it, and if there's not you need one. Anyway, open the cap and pour fluid from a sealed, small bottle of DOT 3, DOT 4 or DOT 5.1 fluid into the tank.

Where is the brake fluid reservoir on a 1997 BMW 528i?

The Micro Filter "air conditioner air inlet" filter can be removed once opened on the Driver side of the car,Unclip the duct tube between the firewall and the filter enclosure and wiggle it upward until it is removed ,It wont break,You will then be both supprised and happy to discover the Break booster and Brake fluid reservoir under the Microfilter..Happy hunting

What would cause the brake pedal in your 92 accord to keep going down all the way to the floor slowly until you loose brake when theres no leakage of brake fluid and brand new pads?

Either there 1. IS leakage somewhere and you're not finding it OR 2. your brakes were not properly bled OR 3. your master cyliner is shot. I'm leaning towards 1 or 3.

Where is the brake fluid reservoir in 1989 Toyota Celica?

The res for the brake fluid is on the driver's side in the engine bay.
It is connected to the brake booster (the large "can" mounted to the firewall) it sticks out of the middle and has a cap with wires coming out of it from the float inside that tells your car to turn on the Brake light when it is getting low. It is slightly elongated with marks to indicate how full or empty. If you are losing a lot of fluid, be sure to look around each tire for signs that it the wheel cylinders for the brakes aren't leaking fuid. They can go bad and you will see a dribble where the fluid is lost. (inside of wheel, not outside)

Your 1999 Saturn SL2 is overheating do you need to flush out your radiator fluid?

Most likely the coolant sensor is bad......The sensor has probably cracked and leaked into the harness, causing the harnes to corrode. Very common problem Check the sensor first!!!!!

Not neccessarily it sounds more like it could be a thermostat problem, water pump not pumping at capacity I mean there could be a clog but highly unlikely would'nt life be grand if all our automobile problems were simple and cheap ones head gasket problem is another culprit but start small and work your way to the big problems the cooling system is a pretty simple system aside from the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor which I have seen cause problems that you would think it could have nothing to do with give that baby a once over as well

---------------

^^^^NOT a thermostat issue. Thermostats are designed to be open when/if they fail. The car would always be cool if the thermostat was bad. Also, because the ECTS has NOT been replaced the gauge can NOT be used as an accurate temperature reading. The PCM uses the sensor to control the fan power. If this sensor is bad then the PCM will not turn the fan on, thus allowing the car to over heat. Replace the ECTS ASAP and move on from there if the issue is not solved!

a thermostat stuck open in fail safe mode WILL cause overheating because the coolant free flows and doesnt have enough capture time in the radiator to let the fans cool, hence the degree ratings on the thermostat for various climates.give good info or dont give it.a removed thermostat or a free flow stuck open will not allow enough cool time for coolant.stopping flow give the radiator and fans the gradual cooling time needed to accomplish this.

Abs light on brakes are grinding when coming to a stop leaking fluids?

sounds like brakes are metal to metal, that is, brake lining is completely worn out, and is grinding rotor.

Ans 2 - You need a complete and thorough brake job. You have neglected to check things periodically ( things that your life depends on ) Expect to pay big bucks for the necessary work.

Brake pedal goes all the way to the floor on stop lights. when new brake pads were installed?

Answer check the brake fluid, it might be low. Answer First make sure the master is full of brake fluid and no loss of fluid. If you have drums in the back, did you adjust them properly, spin drum by hand and adjust till they are a little tight. Next, if all that is good, it is possible that the brake master is by-passing. For that, you have to replace the master. Make sure to bench bleed first.

If the brake pedal sinks to the floor while you're sitting at a red light, the master is by-passing as allready stated above. Replace the master. Bench bleed the master before you install.

Why do you dot an i?

You dot the letter 'i' because the letter 'i' was originally written that way in lower case, so we must always dot the lower case letter 'i'.

How do you bleed the brakes on a vehicle?

Bleeding BrakesHello. As I said in my previous answer. Its nice to have someone help you out, pump while the other bleeds. But the method that I explained is actually accurate. Most cars or trucks have their brake booster and reservoir on the driver side., in which is why you would start at the right front passenger side. I have done a lot of brake jobs, in all types of cars and trucks and have yet to come across one with the reservoir on the right side or passenger front side. Anyway, the two-man rookie method is okay. My way is one man bleeder, which is quicker and with an empty jar and a foot of hose with an inside diameter (id) for the bleeder. Very simple !!! You can buy this bleeder at any auto parts store, for about 5-7dollars. I've been the jar method for about 12-15 years. I do 5-8 brake jobs a month, by myself, on the sidelines with my homemade bleeder. Hardest part of a brake job is taking the wheels off to access the bleeders, and you don't even have to do that. Too much work !!! Go invest in a one man bleeder kit or make one and make life a little easier with more time to do more brake jobs and even better getting paid for it, Don't forget if you change your brake master cylinder, it also needs to be bled. Truthfully, if your going to do your brakes, aside from bleeding it, you might as well lube your caliper pins, etc, pack your wheel bearings, and flush out the old fluid, and put fresh brake fluids accordingly to your DOT specs. Hope this make life easier for any DIY.

Here is advice: * Two people are required. Remove tire and the brake caliper will be exposed. On the caliper their is a bleeder nut that needs to be loosened. Have one person depress the brake pedal slowly while you loosen the bleeder nut. Brake fluid and air will come out. As fluid is leaking out, tighten the bleeder nut. Repeat this process on the remaining three tires. * Now to explain it better ... you must first start bleeding your brakes with the back passenger side, then go to the back driver side and bleed them brakes, then go to the front passenger side and bleed them, then last but not least go to the front driver side and bleed them. That is how you bleed brakes. Pay close attention to the master cylinder fluid level. If you let it drop too far and get air in the lines this way, you'll have to start all over again. * Also depends on why you want to. If you just changed front pads & got some air in the bleed valves, there's no need to mess with the rear unless you gave it a chance to circulate. * Its easier if you take both front wheels off and there is a bleed nipple on the caliper it usually takes two people one person to pump the breaks up like ten times and then you loosen the nipple it will squirt fluid out you do this till you get a steady stream with no air bubbles or breaks in the flow make sure you keep your reservoir full so you don't run out and suck more air in it when you loosen the bleed nipple the person pushing the breaks should feel the pedal go to the floor answer get a friend that know how to do it to help you also get another friend to sit in car and operate pedal so you can be under car and see what is being done it is hard to explain without you actually seeing it if you do as told in first answer all you will be doing is letting a little air out and not doing it correctly also bleed wheel furthest from brake fluid reservoir first then next furthest wheel then 3rd furthest wheel then last the closest wheel in first answer it says go to back passenger side that is not correct if reservoir is on passenger side as happens on a lot on non American cars You can bleed brakes with one person. What you need is a small empty jar (small mayo jar) a foot of rubber hose tubing, brake fluid. Put a hole on the lid the size of the rubber tubing, mark a line 1/2 way up the jar and fill it with brake fluid to the line. Starting, from right front passenger wheel, right rear passenger, left rear passenger, and on to left front wheel. Start by ensuring brake fluid reservoir is properly filled to level and put cap back on. Stick rubber hose or tubing into the hole on jar and the other end into bottom of jar. Open first bleeder and go into car and pump at least 5-8 times, stop go back and check jar. If the fluid has risen above line, then your done with that wheel. Recheck the fluid in reservoir and fill as needed, continue procedure through out all the wheels, and top of reservoir when completed.

another option if you are bleeding only the front is to have the tube end in the fluid reservoir

PREVENT BLEEDING BY TWO PERSON PRESSING FOOT OR A WOOD ON THE PEDAL SPECIALLY THAT ,THE MAIN KEY IS DONT BREAK OR BEAT YOUR BRAKE PUMPS OR MASTER CYLINDER OR CALIPER,IT HAS TO BE SMOOTH PUMP LIKE GRAVITY BLEED YOU WILL NOT HURT THE PUMP THAT YOU JUST HAVE WAIT YOU LOOSE ALITTLE PRESSURE JUST BECAUSE ITS GRAVITY, THEY WILL WORK,AS LONG AS THE BLEEDING TEQNICC LIKE VACUUM BLEEDER IS THE MAIN KEY NOTHING ELSE YOU WILL SAVE YOUR BRAKE PUMPS AT THE SAME TIME VIRGIN,THERE IS NO DISSAAPOINTMENT AS LONG YOU HAVE THE WHOLE SYSTEM NO LEAKS LIKE FLUID PIPE LINES LOOSE OR SOMETHING IT WILL BE THE BEST THING LIKE THE DEALERS DO,THE GREAT THING ABOUT THE TOOL YOU CAN BLEED HYDRAULIC CLUTCH AT THE SAME TIME,YOUR MAIN PART IS MAKE SURE THERE IS NO LEAKS ON THE SYSTEM,THATS IT YOU JUST SAVE YOURSELF SOME MONEY AND A DEALER JOB WELL DONE,CRAFTSMAN OR MYTIVAC BLEEDERS,

How do you get pensky break fluid?

How do you know the master cylinder needs replacing?

If you can pump the brake pedal and it firms up and then while holding pressure on it the pedal slowly goes to the floor the master cylinder is bad. It may be worn to the point that it will not build any pressure. If you pump it and it holds then it is probably air in the line. Very hard brake pedal is usually the vacuum booster.

Where is the brake fluid reservoir in a 2002 Chevy Prizm if you don't have an owner's manual?

The short answer is that it is in the same place it would be if you do have an owner's manual! The longer answer is that it is under the hood on the firewall, almost directly in front of the steering wheel. To check the brake fluid level, view the marks on the side of the reservoir, which is clear. If needed, brake fluid can be added through the lid on top. Be sure to wipe off the lid and the area surrounding the lid with a clean cloth before removing the lid. This keeps dirt out of the brake fluid.
