Oh yeah, these crank sensors break off if you live in a rust-prone region such as NJ or the Midwest US. If this is likely to be a problem, follow this procedure:
1) Get a fire extinguisher handy. You shouldn't need it, but safety is a concern.
2) Unplug the crank sensor and get the wires away from the immediate area. Remove the bolt from the sensor.
3) Get a hot flame about 4 inches and bright blue ready. Hold it to the sensor for about 45 seconds. Remove the flame, the sensor should produce a small yellow flame. If the sensor is burning, blow it out and go to 4, otherwise heat it up some more.
4) Pull the sensor out. The outer layer of plastic is melted, allowing safe removal of the sensor.
AnswerCheck for failure of crank or cam sensor. If you haven't got access to a lab scope, just replace both. It's probably the crank sensor though. On some applications, removal of the cam sensor may require moving the upper intake. A new gasket should not be required, but check for vacuum leaks after you're done.

you could put 1 car in each stall.... That would be logical
It could be the coolant sensor or the rotor sensor, both play a big part in the idle and gas mixture for the car. I found out the hard way. My calais kept shutting down on me.

Does a cracked flywheel cause stalling?
You may find that it's easier to liltghy rev the engine just "blip" the throttle, then let out on the clutch as the engine RPM is falling back to idle .this is MUCH easier on your clutch disc, promoting a smoother engagement. It may be too, that the first car you drove had a small engine and would stall if you didn't feed it some throttle, whereas your father's car may have had a more favorable power to weight ratio and been able to leave a stop from an idle.
