When you turn the key to start the car it will not turn over and there is no power to anything?
It is most likely a dead battery, especially if there is no power for lights or the radio. Check and clean the battery terminals because corrosion can break the electrical circuit.
Does it cause damage to jump start another car with a BMW?
Not normally but it is recommended to keep the lights on to help control power surges
My EPC light came on my Audi A3 and sometime the car will not start why?
The crankshaft positon sensor is wrong. I replaced it on my 2001 A4 fixed the problem.
If the 1995 buick century quits while driving and won't start again?
There are several reasons that can cause your 1995 Buick Century to quit running. The most common reason is a lack of fuel. A bad fuel pump can cause the engine to quit running.
How do you diagnose water leak problems in cars?
In order to properly diagnose a water leak issue, it is necessary for the cooling sytem to be pressurized. Your mechanic should have a special tool that he connects to your radiator that will pump the cooling system with air. This increased pressure will force the coolant out of any leak the system may have.
In my daghters 98 it was the reverse , the starter would crank but nothing else would work !! We resolved this by putting a new ignition switch in ! it takes a Phillips screw driver for about seven screws on the underdash covers then a #10 torx with the hole in the middle . the unit is fairly cheap around thirty dollars . It resides on the opposite side of the ignition key tumbler under the blinker switch . To verify the problem first , use a circuit tester light on the single small leed at the starter , remove the leed connect the light between groun and the leed put key in start position (as trying to start car) and see if the light comes on ! if not this is most likely the problem !Good Luck !
AnswerIn My 95 The Cause was a bad selinoid on the starter I was able to bump start the car fine but that was the only way it would start try getting a starter from a junk yard its alot cheaper than a new one also usally what happens when it does this is that you will drive to location shut the car down and when you go to start it again it smokes the selinoid on the starter then your screwed unless its manual then its not as big of a deal. You probably need to get an automotive locksmith to pull out the barrel of the ignition, clean it out and open up the "vee" that allows the levers to turn.
Sounds liek your ignition switch is bad. Instead of it turning to the off position and disconnecting the electrical power to the coil which kills the engine, yours is staying in the STart or crank position allowing the currect to continue to flow. You may be able to spray some electrical contact cleaner in the ignition switch and solve the problem, but if it is the original switch, you may be lookign at replacing it since it is 36 years old and in time they do wear out and get gunked up.
AnswerCheck the starter relay, it's probably on the drivers side fender. If the relay sticks it will hold the starter circuit.as long as that belt turns all the wheels and doesn't affect anything else it won't sounds like a whole different problem to me
bull i have a 95 z28 and my ac compressor went out and i had to hit it with a hammer everyday till it locked up best thing and cheapest is to go to an auto parts store get a bypass pulley u wont have a/c but its cheaper and gives you a couple horses
Could be a bad started bendix or problems with the flywheel, or just a loose started.
Remember, it takes 3 things to get an engine to start, air, fuel and spark. Air is always there and shouldn't be a problem, so the problem is either lack of fuel or spark or a problem concerning when the fuel and spark is happening. If you turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position and hear the fuel pump running for a few seconds, it is a good bet the fuel pump is working. if you remove one of the spark plug boots from the plug and lay it back on the top of the spark plug loosely and crank the engine, if you are getting spark, you will hear a snapping or cracking sound when the spark plug should fire. (remember that the coil on an electronic ignition auto might put out up to 30,000 to 50,000 volts! don't touch that spark plug wire! it will shock you. don't ask me how I know this is true!). If both of the above are true, it is time to check the timing of the car with an inductive timing light. An inductive timing light connects to the battery and to the first spark plug wire, while cranking the car, point the timing light at the timing gauge located on or around the crank pulley. There is a slot on the crank pulley and an indicator telling if the timing is before top dead center (BTDC) or after (ATDC) zero degrees is top dead center (TDC) if when you crank the car while pointing the timing light at the indicator, if the slot on the crank pulley seems to stand still when the timing light flashed and the slot is within the area of the indicator, the car is close to being in time. If you don't see the slot on the indicator when using the timing light while cranking, the timing belt must be checked to see if it is broken or it has lost a few teeth from the belt.
1990 ford bronco 5.0 won't turn over?
Seized engine? Dead battery? Loose or corroded battery cables? Check your neutral/ground wire.
Bad starter solenoid? Replace starter and solenoid comes with it.
Bad starter?
Bad neutral safety switch? Possibly a bad ignition switch.
Check relay located near battery on right fender of truck. If it is bad you should be able to start the truck by jumping the terminals with a screwdriver. Jump small "trigger" wire to the cable that runs to the starter
Could be several things,
First try a few shims between the engine and the starter, if that doesn't work, change the starter.
Just a suggestion.
What would cause a car to start everytime but shut off after 15-30 seconds?
My guesses are:
1. The fuel filler cap breather hole is blocked. Take off the filler and try the engine again - take care with fuel fumes! 2. The in-line fuel filter(s) is blocked. 3. There's a piece of rag in the tank that's being sucked into the fuel line (Yes, this really happened to me once!). 4. If it's carb'ed, not EFI, then see if the carb bowl is full of fuel debris and/or check the line filter.
AnswerOK, Thanks, but here is the cause . I had 2 problems.1st problem - the main relay was weak, had to be replace, the car then ran for about 5 mins - longer but not correct.
2nd problem - A broken ground wire net the transmittion case, somehow this wire broke, once replaced the car is now running fine.
Summary: The cars clutch was replace just before this start happening, somehow the ground wire from the trans case to the body was broken. The relay was bad, but the car may have keep running with the old one. The ground wire was the over all probelm
Why can you turn the key all the way and not even crank and still have full battery life?
Defective ignition switch, loose or corroded battery cables, starter connection, bad battery cable, or the battery can be bad even though it shows a full charge.
How do you change a starter on a 1995 Chevy Tahoe?
1. Disconnect negative battery cable. 2. raise the vehicle and support it securely with jackstands! 3. clearly label then disconnect the three wires from the starter motor/solenoid. (Looking at the end of the starter/solenoid - one at twelve o'clock is battery terminal, at three o'clock is switch terminal (s), and at six o'clock would be motor terminal (m). 4. Remove the mounting bolts and drop the starter. 5. If you didn't buy a solenoid with your starter, you may have to mount the old one to your starter (instructions are obvious). 6. Installation of new starter is opposite of removal (as they say in the movies!) Good luck and Blessings!
Engine wont start no spark to coil?
Recently had same experience with my dodge and escort. in the escort it was the distributor and the dodge was the brain
AnswerCheck your ignition module in your distributor that is a good place to start. You have a bad starter solenoid or for some reason starter is still not getting enough current-which could be the bat or connections are corroded etc. Check bat voltage and connections (all) to starter.
Can you jump start a van from a car?
depends on the engine size of the car. if u've got one of those small Japanese with a 1 litre engine, not much chance. if you've got a moderately big diesel car. even a 1.9l, it should start up a van. just connect the jump leads and leave the car running for a few minutes ( like 10 minutes). this allows the van's battery to pick a little charge and assist with the starting process. and always rev up your car when the van is kicking to assist with the alternator.
I've started a 2.5l diesel BMW jumped with a small 1.5l diesel. so it can be done.
What could be the problem if a 2002 Chevy Tahoe shuts off while driving and now wont start?
Typically this issue points towards a crank shaft position sensor
Could be. But I would make sure you can hear the fuel pump run when you turn the key on. It will only run about 3 to 4 seconds and stop. Then you will have to cycle the key off and on to here it run again. You should here it run by listen to were you put the fuel in. CHECK FUEL PUMP fuse and relay if you don't here the pump running. If these items are good and you don't here the pump, Then replace fuel pump.
How do you reset the anti-theft system for a 1997 Chevy Monte Carlo if your car will not start?
I had to reset the anti theft in my 04 Monte SS after ignition replacement. I cant remember exactly how I did it but it was time consuming. Seems I had to turn ignition switch from off to on 3 times. On the 3rd time go to "Crank" position and hold for 5 seconds and then release to the on position. Then I had to watch the securuty light flash until t went to a solid light. Once the light became solid I had to repeat that entire step 2 more times. It's been awhile and my car is a bit newer but I'm pretty sure that's how I did it and it WORKED! It took about 1/2 hour to get through it once I finally figured out the right way. By the way the light starts flashing diiferently when it's getting ready to complete each stage. That's how you know when your getting close to repeating the step. So if after the 1st time through it doesn't do like I said, then yours is either different or I'm failing to give the directions quite right.
Why does it sound like the blinkers are on but the battery is charged and the truck wont start?
the alternator is bad
When you hear a clicking noise is most likely a battery problem however you stated that the battery was replaced so i suggest you check the condition of your cables look for rust or corrosion etc.
