Why does your starter keep going after van is started?
Solenoid the starter is stuck would be my suspicion.
What could be the problem with an 89 f150 econoline van when it just dies and wont restart?
also check and see if you are getting spark. it may be bad coil,or solonoid. good luck ignition module on the distributer
My 1984 Mercury Gran Marquis turns over but won't start?
Check for fuel and spark - noting the age of the vehicle it may be the timing chain has "jumped"
Where is a starter motor in a vauxhall vectra 1.8 16 valve?
between motor and fire wall under inlet manafold go behind coil pack
The "bus" is the wires the computer use to talk to each other. You either have a bad computer or a problem with the "bus" wires. You need a scan tool to see how many different computers(pcm, abs, cluster, airbag,....) are communicating and have codes.
Why would a 2001 pontiac grand am turn over but not start?
Check the 2001 Grand Ams crank shaft position sensor first. If the sensor is bad then the engine will not get fire or start.
Dodge ram 1500 wont start. alternator is okay starter is new...what else could it be?
If your motor cranks it could be an ignition problem which could be anything from bad spark plugs to a bad distributor or it could be a fuel problem. When you turn the key to on listen for the fuel pump to click on if you hear it then its most likely not your fuel unless ur filter is cloged. if there is no crank most likely starter or bad ground somewhere
How do you change spark plugs on a 97 astro van 4.3 all wheel drive?
Ensure that the engine is cold. Disconnect the wire from the plug. Clean the plug area with an air canister. Turn the plug counterclockwise to remove it. Calculate the proper gap before installing the new spark plug.
Look for a loose or corroded battery cable. The problem may also be a faulty starter solenoid/relay switch - you might want to have it checked out.
What is the problem when the car makes a clicking sound instead of turning over and starting?
It is one of several potential problems. If it's low battery voltage the battery is unable to maintain enough current to engage and operate the starter. If it's a loose or poor battery terminal connection the connection may be weak and not capable of carrying the current load of the starter motor. If it's a faulty starter it could be engaging but the electric motor part is not functioning.
If the lights go completely off when you try to crank the engine, it's probably a bad connection. If the lights severely dim when you try to crank the engine it's probably a bad battery or alternator that is unable to keep the battery charged. A battery is only a storage device. It stores electrical energy that is created by the alternator. If the alternator has failed, the battery does not get charged and won't be able to start an engine. The battery can also just be old and unable to hold a charge. If the lights don't dim much when you try to start the engine it might be that the starter just isn't engaging.
The vehicle died while running and now won't start?
What is a egr valve and where located on a 1991 park ave?
EGR = Exhaust Gas Recycling. When running at less than full power, a percentage of exhaust gas is put back through the intake so that there isn't too much oxygen in the mix. Computer controlled engines can run far more lean than did their carburated counter-parts, thereby saving you and me a whole lot of fuel. But if the engine runs lean, too much oxygen can cause the combustion process to get EXTREMELY hot resulting in burned exhaust valves and possibly even pistons. Welcome to the world of the EGR valve. By controlling the amount of exhaust gas the computer is actually controlling the amount of oxygen, making the engine run far more lean and making valves last many times longer. If your EGR valve goes bad there are a couple things that can happen to your engine, one is bad the next is worse. If you're getting too much exhaust gas, the engine will run bad. If you're not getting enough exaust gas the engine will either run too hot or waste too much fuel. EGR valves on most GM vehicles are mounted on top of the intake manifold. They aren't usually too difficult to change, but many cars have a lot of "shroud" around the engine, to make it look "pretty". Sometimes that stuff gets to be a pain to remove. Whatever it takes, if the EGR valve is messed up, replace it at your earliest convenience. It will save fuel and possibly the engine.
The grinding noise you hear is probably coming from your starter. When the bushings wear out, the armature "drops" against the casing, making it difficult to spin without "grinding" on it. Starters can be rebuilt if you are mechanically inclined - you can buy a "starter overhaul" kit at almost any auto parts store. Before you buy a kit, remove the starter and inspect it - it might be too far gone from the grinding to overhaul. If that's the case, you will need to buy a new or rebuilt starter.
How do you know if a crank position sensor is bad?
You will have a no spark situation. Testing it with a volt meter is easy. Twist the crank shaft slowly by hand and watch volt meter. If there is voltage and no voltage the sensor is good. No readings sensor is bad
More than likely the battery is discharged. It can also be a defective starter. Fully charge the battery and see what you have.
How do you jump start a dead battery on a 2008 beetle?
You have to have two battery jumper cables. One cable connects to the Bettle battery plus connector and the plus side of the battery in a (engine running) jumpstart car. The other cable connects to the jumpstart car negative battery connector and the bettle minus battery connector. It is important to let the donor car charge the Bettle battery for ten to fiftenn minutes because most jumper cables are poor quality and size to immediately supply all the current to the Bettle starter by themselves. Give the Bettle battery a while to charge and let it help the cranking process.
Can a loose negative battery cable make a car hard to start?
Yes. A loose negative battery cable can make a car hard to start. In fact it can make it impossible to start. If you don't have one you can go to a hardware or automobile supply store and purchase an adjustable wrench for a few dollars. With that wrench, you can tighten your cable. That wrench is useful for a number of things. While you are at it, also get a piece of sand paper and clean the battery terminal.
I have a 1985 Toyota Camry. I kind of have the same problem but my battery connection is fine. I have heard from several different people who has looked at my car say its the ignition. I was wondering if that is the problem or what. I also have another question, When I put my blinker and i turn the steering wheel, the steering wheel clicks twice, what soes this mean? Thanks alot i am a new driver and this is my first car so i am kind of worried about things like this.
THE CLICKING SOUND YOU HEAR IS YOUR STARTER SOLENOID CLOSING. ITS NOT THE IGNITION.(IF THE STARTER TURNS NORMAL BUT THE ENGINE WON'T START THEN IT COULD BE THE IGNITION,IGNITION AND STARTER HAVE TWO DIFFRENT FUNCTIONS.) MOST LIKELY ITS YOUR BATTERY AND OR CONECTION /WIRES ETC.
IF YOU STILL HAVING THAT PROBLEM TRY SWITCHING YOUR BATTERY WITH ANOTHER ONE THAT YOU KNOW FOR SURE THAT ITS "WORKING" TRY A FRIENDS BATTERY . JUST BECAUSE THE RADION AND LIGHTS TURN ON IT DON'T MEAN THAT THE BATTERY HAS ENOUGH POWER TO START THE ENGINE.
IF THAT DONT WORK THERE ARE OTHER SIMPLE TEST THAT ANYONE CAN DO TO PIN POINT A STARTING PROBLEM.TRY THAT FIRST.
You can also check the solenoid switch under the clutch pedal shaft. If the clutch pedal shaft isn't pushing that button hard enough, the starter wont engage. When you turn the key, the power will come on, but no start. Two pennies and a bit of duct tape fixed mine.
I have 1992 Toyota Camry V6. I had the exact problem. Just replace your starter. Go on autozone.com. That's how I fixed mine. Good luck!
Hope this helps.
Answercheck your fuel pump relay. You'd be surprised!! AnswerI had the same problemon my 2001 s40. Problem was the fuel pressure controller and idle control value. AnswerI'm having the same problem even after two visits to the the dealer. Just today when the engine stalled again the DSA light came on with the check engine light and stayed on. I couldn't put the DSA back on even when I pressed and held the button which usually works. While the DSA was off the car never stalled. Later when I started the car again the DSA was on again and the stalling continued. I have a feeling it has something to do with the DSA since the DSA cuts engine power when it detects wheelspin. Maybe the DSA sensor or something similar wrongly detects wheelspin and cuts engine power and since the engine is already under 1k rpm it just stalls?replace module, rotor button and dist. cap
Possibly the keyswitch.
Get car scanned for codes at most parts stores for free. Could be a CPS crank position sensor or cam position sensor. If crank sensor is bad, will not start. Get codes checked first.
The starter in a car is an electric motor that turns the gasoline engine. It has a rod of material (usually carbon) that carries electricity from the non-moving part of the motor to the moving part, and the rod 'brushes" against the moving part. That rod IS the "brush". PS- the rod wears away, and may need to be replaced n an older starter.
I would suspect the coil itself, even with the wire connecting to the distributor cap removed, you should still see a spark from the connector on the coil to the body of the coil itself
