remove the radio, and get the serial number. then go to the nearest dealership and they will give you the code to unlock the radio. i would also recomend writing it down and keeping it in the car, as i am sure you will experience this problem again

Depending on the RMS power of your sub, and size and brand of your sub, it will depend.

If you have a single sub, I'd recommend a monoblock amp that puts out close to or enough to power your sub. You could also use a 2 channel bridgeable amp, as they are generally a much cheaper option. For dual subs, I'd say a bridgeable 4 channel amp, or high-output 2ch amp.

To give an exact amp, I don't go past the Pioneer GM-d8500M 1200w Class-D Monoblock amp.

Try Sony's website, under the downloads/user manuals section. Depending on how old the unit is, it may no longer be available, so you can call around to stereo installation shops, and you may find one that is friendly enough or that takes pity on you and gives you a copy of theirs.

check in the trunk as the wires are exposed and luggage can very easily shift them so that they short out. This happened to my nephew who as a 2000 ECHO

You could try to get a pack of busman fuses. They fit perfectly and have the same exact rating. But I would say dont bother. I have the same system and I replaced the fuse 3 times and as soon as I plug it in the fuse blows. I think the transformer might be bad or i have a short somewhere in the amp.

start by runing something like a butter knife under and around the outside edge of the black panel that souronds the player. when you do this do not force the knife. you will feel some clips with the knife be gentle and dont brake the clips. the panel should pop off the just pull the 3 screws that hold the radio in abd unhock the plug in at the back radio remember be easy with the panel it dont take much to break a clip

Yes, the remote wire that hooks up to the stereo tells the amp to turn on, it works like a switch. If that is hooked up properly check your ground.

That will depend on the amplifier size & abilities. Look on the amp for it's specifications(or research them online). If it is rated as 1ohm stable, I'd suggest running the subs in parallel to achieve a 1ohm load. If it's not, then run them in series, this will present the amp with a 4ohm load. Just remember that excessive distortion will kill a speaker in fairly short order. To avoid this, the amp must be able to deliver as much or more power than the speakers are rated for. Example: if you're running them in parallel and the subs are rated at 100W RMS each, be sure your amp is capable of delivering at least 200W RMS at 1ohm. Ideally, you'll want more than 200W, my basic rule of thumb is the amp should be 40% more powerful than the speaker(s).

We have a 2000, and all you need to do is push the radio channel buttons underneath the screen of your radio. When you do this, the blanks will turn to numbers in ascending order. Just push the button until your code is up, then hit the AM/FM button. You should be ready to go.

Simply pry up the seat cushin. There should be 2 clips holding it down. From there you have to take off th elittle side pice cushion on each side of the rear windows. It should be held on with one bolt on the very bottom.

I had a little problem with this at one time but you need to go buy a special wire harness for ur radio...its called a data retention harness it it'll run probably aroung 50 bucks. But what that does is that you have to still have ur old radio hooked up but theres another wire that ataches to it so you can put it in the trunk or mount it somewhere out of the way.its actually really simple to install once you get the wires. I've never actually installed a new stereo in a grand am (I have a 2003) but I've installed many in other cars, usually the best place to go is Best Buy or Circuit City and you can look up the exact make and model of your car then it tells you the exact kit and harness you need. I don't know about a data retention harness but the guys at Best Buy are always helpful and if it comes down to it they'll install in for a fee. It's not anything crazy.

Normally Red is constant, Yellow is Accessory, Black is Ground, blue is for antenna. Be sure to check those with a digital multimeter!... Speaker wires are a bit of a hassle but I found mine by using a 9 volt battery, go wire to wire til you heara "pop" Then determine which speaker is making the noise, those wires go to that speaker. The easiest way possible is to get a manual!

On '06 and later with Harman Kardon stereo there is a toggle switch on inner fairing to left of ignition switch also an internal fader is on the stereo controls themselves
