All car engines have oil pumps in them to force the oil to circulate through the dozens of moving parts in the engines. This keeps the metal-to-metal friction of the moving parts at a minimum and also helps to reduce heat. Less friction and less heat extend the life of the engine. If the oil level in the engine gets too low, there won't be enough oil to sufficiently supply the lubricating needs of the engine. This level is detected in the engine by the oil light. If there is not enough oil, or if the oil pump is leaking or failing, the oil pressure from the pump will drop. Since this is dangerous to engine, the warning system picks up this condition, and turns on the warning light in the dashboard to let you know that a correction to this problem is required to keep your engine happy and healthy. If it is not corrected soon, the engine will began to self-destruct rapidly, from insufficient lubrication.

On 1.2 3 cylinder BME engine Fabias it is loctated in the black plastic housing near side of cylinder head with 2 rubber coolant hoses coming out of it. Standing at front of car with bonnet up and looking into engine bay it should be to your right side, underneath the side of the engine cover and the thermostat housing has an electrical connector plug coming out of it.

Internal engine problems such as burnt valve, broken valve spring, bent push rod, worn rings.....

Buy the oxygen sensor and fix the car and get the light reset !

The service indicator can be reset by; 1. ignition off 2. keep pressing the reset button on the trip mileage clock 3. now hold down reset button and turn ignition on, hold for 10 seconds then release the button (the screen should have 3 lines on it now to indicate the reset)

Most of the time, yes. Depending on the drivability of course (ie, hindered acceleration) However it is not something to be ignored as it can result in engine damage if not adressed. Advance auto, auto zone, pepboys, they will all scan the cars computer for free, and you can ask for advice on what to do on your specific scenario.

As this is a 96 model, it can be either a OBD1 or OBD2 system. If it is a 1 system, removing the battery cable for 5 minutes will reset the light. If it is a 2 system, you will need a code reader to do this. Have the problem fixed as it may cause damage to parts such as the catalytic converter. maybe mine is different, but I seem to be able to reset it by removing the battery cable I think he means IF YOU WANT TO READ THE CODES, if you just want them gone, remove the battery cable mine is a 96 OBD2, by the way, all 96 is OBD2, he does have a good point about looking into why they are crying, but I think we all want to erase them, then see how long it is till they come back on, then maybe it's time to go to autozone and get them read for free

As you probably know, the fuel system is a sealed system. You probably fueled up with the engine running.the light should go out after you start the car afew times.

There are times when the alternator will test out fine as far as amp output and voltage output but if your alternator has a weak diode(s) it may trigger the light to go on. I hate to say you should replace the alternator, but your charging system is pretty much self contained in your alternator so I believe the problem is in fact in your alternator. Good luck.

You can usually disconnect the battery cable for about 15 seconds and reconnect it to reset the engine light.

I'd first check repalce the EGR Pressure Feedback sensor (back of engine underneath with two hose outlets), then the EGR vacuum solenoid (left side of EGR valve).

The computer is indicating the presence of a fault code. Find out why the computer is doing that by using a code scanner.

you can go to an autozone or similar store and have them run a diagnotic, then have them shut it off. :)

That's not a check engine light. That's an everything light. Including low oil pressure. ?The oil you put in recently is of an effective lower viscosity than what was previously run? Try thickening the oil.

It comes on when the engine computer detects a malfunction and sets a code. You need to have the system checked for codes.
