To get the light off, and to have it REMAIN off, you will need to have the van connected to a scan tool or code reader to find out what is turning on the light. Once that is done, you can have the fault found & fixed, and then the computer (or shop) will clear the diagnostic code. If the problem has NOT been fixed, then the code and light will come back.

The Fix
Best first action is a tune up, new plugs, wires, inspect all hoses and wire connections then reset the code. If it returns you will need to narrow it down to a system, coils and coil packs should be tested, catalytic converters for function ( do you smell rotten eggs?). A misfire that jumps cylinders could indicate a lean condition, do you have any other codes along with the 300? this will help clue you in to the source, check valve function to make sure they are opening and closing fully.
This is probably pone of the most difficult codes to troubleshoot, so start with the basics and work your way into the more expensive options, in many cases a good old tune up solves the problem, back it up with a fuel system cleaning and see where you stand.

Before you do anything else, be sure to first check that the green diagnostic connector (below the driver-side dashboard down near the petals) is NOT connected. This connector is used to reset the ECU and should not be connected. Often times someone who does not know better will see these dangling wires and connect them resulting in a reset and start the engine light flashing. Your question is extremely vague and this could be any number of things. You can try resetting your ECU which is done by disconnecting the negative battery cable and pressing on the brake pedal for at least one minute. Then your check engine light should be gone (at least for a little while). You can always take it to Autozone, Checker, or any other automotive parts store to have them check it for you. The dealership is always an option as well.

It has to do with emitions. Your sensor is either bad or one or you plugs are bad. Change your plugs first then disconnect your negative cable from your battery for at least 20 seconds to reset your trouble lights. If that does not clear up the problem change your catilitic converter sensors and clear your trouble lights again. try replace the vehicle speed sensor in the transmission, that should take care of the problem.

It Should reset by disconecting the battery for a few minutes, but the computer will recognize a problem and turn it on again in the future abou 10 to 15 minets should do also if i comes back on when you hook the battery up go back to the place you fixed it at and complain

Alternator is most likely going bad. Does your car start right back up after this happens? If your alternator is bad your car is trying to run on pure battery power and getting zero if little charge from your alternator. When this happens little by little your car will run out of power to everything and in turn shut off.

All of these parts run on electricity, and for all of them to fail would be bad. Bad or burnt wiring could cause them not to work, or a alternator going bad could cause them not to work as well.

often refered to as 'idiot lights' , you will find them right in front of you on the dash board , near the thingy that tells you how fast you're going ,very helpful items because they invariably glow bright red when it's way too late and you probably ignored them anyway so now because you didn't check your oil , radiator , transmission , brake fluid and battery , for correct levels of coolant , oil , electrolite etc , your motor is now siezed and the battery is flat ....... you're now stranded in the middle of nowhere , surrounded by miles and miles of bugger-all .... all because youre an idiot and didnt check under the hood .... just as well you don't have a flat tire to go with it because you never bothered to check the spare for pressure in the time you owned the car and that's flat also .... good luck. Look on the drivers side under the dash on the left hand side and you will see three wires two are connected just switch two of the wires and the light will go off.

The check engine light indicates a problem with the emissions system so to permanently clear the code you must have the codes read and correct the problem, it is most likely a faulty sensor. Auto parts stores at least the big chains can read the codes for you and also help in clearing them when you are done, however you can disconnect the neg battery cable to reset the computer but be careful GM radios will go into security lock when power is interrupted and need to be unlocked at a dealer. If you are trying to get a smog certicicate on the vehicle and it wont pass due to the check engine light simply resetting it wont help because you will have to log around 100 miles before the smog computer will test it again and by then the light will be back on.

There are many possibilities, map sensor, EGR valve, TPS... and a lot more. If the light comes on, you'll need to connect an OBD code scanner to find out what the computer detected. The computer should have stored the problem code if the light came on.

Inorder to properly diagnose your car you will need to have a technician read the code stored in the engine computer and diagnose it. ... you can try disconnecting the battery for one min. then reconnect the battery. 3 things could cause this code, the nvld vent valve has failed internally, the wiring to this component has an issue, or the engine control computer itself has failed. the nvld vent valve is in the rear of car, near the charcoal canister and vent filter. check resistance across pins on nvld corresponding to orange wire and white/dk grn wires. ensure black wire has good chassis ground. if no probelms found, disconnect pcm connector 3 (white), and check continuity of orange wire and white/dk wires (pins 8 and 35 if memory serves me). if problem is still not found, then the engine control module most likely needs to be replaced. hope this helps
