Check Engine Light

There is a six prong plug -usually female and only 5 connecters where 6 cloud be- to the left of the steering column above the left knee or shin- there is a red wire with a green stripe that you ground while the engine is running and right after you drive it around for at least five minutes. Then you count the number of flashes that the ABS light puts out and that is the number for the trouble code. Four flashes then number four on the fault code list and so on.

The secondary air injection pump pumps air into the exhaust to help heat the catalytic converter at cold start. This lowers the emissions at an otherwise high emission time. first off it depends on the year , the manual I have covers 95 thru 99 and there are no such codes in it !? Good Luck !

The light is on because the computer has detected a problem with the emissions system. After this problem is repaired the light is reset with a scan tool. For a quick fix at home without having to go to a shop and give them a lot of money all you have to do is disconnect the negative (black) terminal on the battery then insert your keys in the ignition and turn it a couple of times like when you start the car. Then take the keys out, reconnect the battery and problem solved! Warning: This does not fix the problem, if there is a serious problem the Check Engine Light will flash instead of remaining solid. If light continues to come on get it checked out immediatly.

This is caused by one of your headlights being out most likely the brights. turn the car on switch from brights to normal and daylight lights and you will see on is out, you just need to replace the headlights Did you find out the answer? The DRL Relay is the located in the fuse box.

I installed HIDs in my 04 cavy and when the daytime runners are used they do not supply enough power to the Catalyst. so i have to turn them on manually to get them to stop blinking. (daytime dash light also blinks) its kinda cool when u accidentally pull someone over with flickering headlights lol. i just wanted to throw my personal experience curve ball.

You buy a new egr valve for about $300.00 or take the old one apart and clean it. It fixed my 1990 3800 lesabre.

i had this come up on mine a few months ago, we took it to the garage and they said that it was part of the engine managment system that showed that one of the electrical leads which is located under one of the wheel arches had coroded. apparently this is very common on this model of puntos because of the position. To reset the engine light you need an OBDII Reader. $39 From Harbor Freight. They have retail stores in many areas or use the following: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=94168 It plugs into the OBDII socket. On my 01 Rodeo, it is under the dash next to the driver side door. Select 'Erase' on the Reader menu and you are done. Alternatively, you can disconnect the battery. This should wipe the OBD memory. Unfortunately, it will also reset the clock, the radio presets, and anything else in RAM in the car. Still, cheaper than going out and buying an OBD reader. ******************************* A cheaper alternative would be to go to an auto parts store, Checker Auto or Autozone in my area, and they have a check engine reader that they will let you use for free. They may require a deposit such as your drivers license or a credit card as security while you check the error code or erase that code.

The OBD 2 engine code P0302 means that the ECU has recorded number two cylinder misfiring. Possible causes are the spark plug, spark plug wire, ignition coil, fuel injector, injector electrical harness, valve, valve spring, piston ring etc. The most common causes of this code on a Nissan Maxima with under 100,000 miles are spark plugs and ignition coils. A compression test can be performed to check the engine's mechanical integrity, using a compression tester like one available at DenLorsTools.com. Compression should not vary more than about 10 percent between the cylinders, any more than that can cause a rough idle.

Not sure I understand. At this point everything that happened is mute. You now have rebuilt your engine and tried to start it. It didn't work so you checked and the 80 amp. fuse was blown. You went to start again and the check engine light is on but as you cranked the engine the distributor blew? If so explain blew? 80 amp Fuse still OK? Was it the distributor fuse that blew?

You should have it looked at. OBDII tools also reset codes. If you're sure you know what you're doing you can reset the codes by disconnecting the batery. You car will run differenly for 200 - 500km It will do this because the computer also resets and has to relearn how you drive. Corollas are notorious for CEL's due to intake leaks which give a false lean or 2nd o2 sensor error code. There's a really good chance your 2004 corolla is a manual and it's probably silver. 2004 Common CEL's intake added, intake manifold, MAF cleaning and not knowing that you need to give it gas while letting out on the clutch. my fav is the one where you get a P1035 in cold weather.

Check your Secondary Air Pump which is under the front of your car. If that has any cracks or anything to that extent you might have to replace it because air would be leaking. I found information here.

it depends on the wrench that shows if you have one wrench that would indicate an A service and two wrenches would indicate a B service you can get a detailed list of these from your local MB dealer

You can buy the check engine computer and the book comes with it. I know, I bought one. When your check engine light comes on, you plug it in and check the engine and it will give you the code and you look in the book for that code and it gives you the answer.

Take it to advance auto and they will do it for free.

If the light is on, you will need to have it reset, or wait for the computer to run the self test enough times to turn itself off.

P0300 Diagnostic Code - Random Misfire

Failing spark plugs or spark plug wires
Bad coil or coil pack
Failing oxygen sensor(s)
Bad fuel injector or more than one
Stuck exhaust valve

The Fix
Best first action is a tune up, new plugs, wires, inspect all hoses and wire connections then reset the code. If it returns you will need to narrow it down to a system, coils and coil packs should be tested, catalytic converters for function ( do you smell rotten eggs?). A misfire that jumps cylinders could indicate a lean condition, do you have any other codes along with the 300? this will help clue you in to the source, check valve function to make sure they are opening and closing fully.
This is probably pone of the most difficult codes to troubleshoot, so start with the basics and work your way into the more expensive options, in many cases a good old tune up solves the problem, back it up with a fuel system cleaning and see where you stand.

To get the light off, and to have it REMAIN off, you will need to have the van connected to a scan tool or code reader to find out what is turning on the light. Once that is done, you can have the fault found & fixed, and then the computer (or shop) will clear the diagnostic code. If the problem has NOT been fixed, then the code and light will come back.

pull out your dash, behind the wheel, and theres a lot of cords and wires, follow the wire that leads to the circuit board behind the check engine light bored, and find the engine light cord and cut it, but be aware those lights could mean something, and i suggest you to get an o2 censore cord for about a hundred bucks from parts and plus, and you plug it in to the o2 censor and it will tell you what your issue is!

easy way is disconnect the battery cable for 5 minutes then reconnect.or have a shop do it for you.

if your talking about a maintenance light to reset.

turn key to run, engine off. pump the gas pedal 3-5 times slowly,the light turns off.

There are many reasons why the management light will come on, you will have to have the car scanned at a repair shop, the fault code that made the light come on will be stored in the engine control module, and this can be decoded by and any good shop with the correct equipment
