How is a diesel engine different from other internal combustion engines?

Its a compression engine, as opposed to a spark driven combustion. No spark plugs!

To start the engine, the piston is forced up (by a starter), it compresses the (heated) fuel in the piston which then ignites (under pressure) forcing the piston back down and initiating the engine to turn over.

What is a LS2 V8 engine?

An LS2 engine is a an Advanced 6.0 Litre V8 engine. Commonly used on Chevrolet vehicles. They are also New to Australia, just in 2005 to now, HSV (Holden Special Vehicles) has used these engines. HSV uses them in all their models (except VXR). These LS2 engines only uses 6.0 litre configurations. the first engine is a 6.0 litre 298kW and producing 542Nm.

The engines used in these cars: * 2005 to 2006 Chevrolet Corvette * 2004 to 2006 VZ HSV range * 2007 Chevrolet Camaro Concept (both coupe and convertible) * 2005 to 2006 Vauxhall Monaro VXRs * 2005 to 2006 Pontiac GTO and plenty more the second engine is a 6.0 litre 307kW and producing 550Nm.

the engines used in these cars: * 2006 to Present VE HSV range and more The first car to use the LS2 V8 was the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette.

Why does Engine shake when idling check engine light flashes?

The engine is not hitting on all cylinders or the distributor (electronic or manual) needs adjustment.

Ford engine with a number of 711m6015ba can anybody tell you the year and what vehicle it would be from please?

I am looking at it right now it is in a late 70's bombardier bombi. The block number is a inline 4cyclinder ford 1600 cc industrial engine. They also call it a kent tall block, higher torque out put.

What is so good about diesel engines?

The diesel engine works by compressing the fuel and air mixture inside a piston cylinder. Compressing the mixtures raises its temperature. When the temperature reaches the fuels ignition point, it ignites, explodes and pushes the cylinder back.

A gasoline engine works similarly but needs a high voltage spark from an ignition system to ignite the fuel.

What is good about the diesel engine:

  • The diesel engine does not need a complex electrical system to keep the engine running.
  • Diesel powered vehicles do use a battery to start the engine turning, once the engine starts it is no longer needed.
  • A diesel engine does not need spark plugs and distributor system to keep running although it does use glow plugs to help it start when the engine is too cold.
  • Diesel engine fuel is cheaper to use than gasoline (petrol). Some people even use home heating oil to power a diesel engine (after passing it through a filter to remove sediment).
  • A diesel engine has a higher compression ratio in the cylinder making it more efficient than a gasoline powered engine.

What is the best oil for a cummins 5.9 engine?

Best oil for any diesel is Rotella

a little higher to buy, but by far the best oil

Tests say other wise.

Shell Rotella T 15W-40

Four-Ball Wear Test

(ASTM D-4172B @ 40 kg,75°C, 1200 rpm, 1 hr), Scar, mm 0.636

Noack Volatility, % weight loss (g/100g) (ASTM D-5800) 10.86

AMSOIL Synthetic SAE 15W-40 Heavy-Duty Diesel and Marine Motor Oil (AME)

Four-Ball Wear Test

(ASTM D-4172B @ 40 kg,75°C, 1200 rpm, 1 hr), Scar, mm 0.35

Noack Volatility, % weight loss (g/100g) (ASTM D-5800) 6.8

Costs less also

Hope This Helps.

having run all size trucks from road trains to pickups i have proved that rotella is the best

i have had cummins, mack, cat, ford and international diesels, Volvo and Detroit

the 4 ball test was payed for by amsoil, course it would say it was best

take yourself along to any truckstop in the nation and see what oil they sell, they sell rotella not amsoil. and you surely do not need heavy duty marine oil in a truck engine.

Why is petrol engine RPM is greater than diesel engine?

for same power diesel engine produces more torque @ less rpm whereas petrol engine produces less torque @more rpm this difference is due to different combustion processes of diesel and petrol

What year is the engine on a Yamaha Virago engine number 5E3-001471?

What would cause the fans on an 85 Cadillac Sedan DeVille to not cool the radiator?

Either the inside of the rad is plugged, so you need to flush it, or the vanes are plugged with dirt, bugs, leaves, etc. You will need to pressure wash it from the inside of the engine compartment. Your water pump could be shot.

Why would the radiator cooling fan not turn on when the engine gets hot in a 1988 Nissan Sentra 1.6 the sensor and main relay have been replaced and the fan is good?

Check thermostat, if stat not working it wont be circulating the water past the sensor to bring fan on. Is one of the coolant hoses cold even when it overheats? Hope this helps

What is external combution engine?

External Combustion engine is an engine in which combustion of fuel takes place outside the cylinder.

e.g.Coal fired steam engines in trains

02 Elantra wrecked head on collision repaired and immediately afterwards the main baring in the engine failed and now needs engine replaced Had no problems what so ever before the wreck Any thoughts?

During the accident the engine did not shut off in time and it damaged the barring. It happens but there is a shut off switch that is in the car to shut it off. It must have failed.

Why engine light flashes on a 2002 vortex 5.3 engine?

There is a problem with the emissions system. Need to have engine scaned with a engine scanner, and it will tell you were the problem is and whats going on.

Is the Oldsmobile engine an interference engine?

Not enough info, please reask question with year, make, model, and engine size.

No antifreeze in your engine?

You risk damage to the engine as the coolant not only protects it against freezing conditions but also prevents corrrosion to the components, especially parts made from alloy;eg the cylinder head and water pump

1996 Dodge Avenger 2.5 V6 --- Engine idles at a constant 2000 rpm Why is this?

I wrote this question. Found a small rag jammed into the throttle body, obstructing the butterfly valve. WOW. Glad it didn't get sucked into a cylinder. And no, this was not my fault. I bought the car used and this is exactly how I found it when I yanked off the TB. Engine idles at proper speed now. A little rough at times, but I bet changing the 02 sensors will cure that.

Who invented the MPFI engine?

Frederick William lanchester invented the earliest MPFI engine

Why does my 05 Trailblazer sound like a jet engine in the transmission area when started for 45 seconds even if the engine is turned back off?

Its not the torque converter. It's the electric air pump found on the inside frame rail on the driver's side roughly below the driver's seat. This air pump is the EGR system for these vehicles. What you are hearing is normal.

1.) Get the Torque converter checked.

2.) Possibly a problem with the fan clutch. Trailblazers have had a long history of the fan clutch failing on when heating up, and causes the fan to always stay on. Eventually, you may get a check engine light with the code referring to a fan clutch over speed.

It can be replaced by the DIYer, but requires some specialized tools to remove it.

Can you replace a 1993 300zx non-turbo engine with a 2006 350z engine?

I don't know why you would want to because the vg30dett is a better engine anyways, but no, not without some Major modifications, plus a new transmission, drive shaft and rear differential.

98 Accord w 3.0l v6 120k the engine oil light started flashing it turns off on restarting engine happened 3 times in 2 weeks no engine noise drives well mechanic did not find any problem Ideas?

i have a 98 accord also and had this particular problem, if the problem occurs when you take turns, it is most likely oil pressure. you should top up your oil and make sure your oil pump is providing adequate pressure. the problem will not show any signs unless the oil pressure drops signifigantly than you may be replacing your engine. josh
