Dedication! It's an important job to mould the minds of youth and can make a big difference in each and every one of the students you are going to have. Be a role model. Be aware you can't get through to them all, but if you see a student lagging behind because they aren't picking the subject up quick enough give of yourself and give them some of your extra time. Give your students respect, but expect it back. Be firm, but caring and realize that students have personal problems too. Make yourself accessible to your students when it comes to problems, but don't get too close (only meet them in the classroom with the door open) or outside on school public property. Student teaching involves a variety of tasks. Basically you are learning to be a teacher through daily classroom experience. Most teacher certification degree programs require that you attend student teaching for 12-16 weeks. You will spend an entire semester in a classroom. You will be a classroom that is in line with you the age you will be able to teach and the subject area. You will be under the supervision of a teacher. Some programs call them supervising teachers while other programs call then cooperating teachers. Your cooperating teacher will help you along the way. They will show you how to do classroom management (discipline and organization), instruction techniques, assessment techiques, etc. They will act as your mentor throughout the process. Usually you will start off the first couple weeks by observing your cooperating teacher. This will help you to become familiar with the school schedule. Then you will ease into teach 1 class then 2 up to 4 or more classes per day. For about one month to six weeks you will teach the entire day and your cooperating teacher will observe. Your cooperating teacher will provide you with feedback and help during the process. College faculty may come observe your teaching as well.

Well, the best thing that you can do is probably ask a lot of questions. Ask questions that go deeper than the stuff he or she is talking about, rather than just asking him or her to repeat themselves. If you ask interesting, thoughtful questions, then the teacher might get more excited about the subject and start teaching better. Also, try to show as much respect as possible to the teacher. I'm not saying that all teachers deserve respect... only that it will help when it comes to grading time. Sometimes teachers are mean just because they think that the class is out of control and they aren't sure how to get everyone to calm down and listen. ... Which means that the teacher needs to learn some better strategies, but it also means that you could help out... be vocal in trying to get people to calm down. Prove you are on the teacher's side in trying to establish a place where people can learn. And be prepared for every class. If the teacher asks a question, be ready and willing to answer it. Maybe you will feel like you are brown-nosing or talking too much, and maybe some of the other kids won't like you... but if the teacher is despairing that none of the students are prepared, you being prepared will stand out. If you are completely prepared, if you study hard, if you learn all of the material and try to be on the teacher's side as much as possible... I think that you will have a good chance at an A.
