How do you replace the headlight lens located on a 1997 Ford Escort?
I know exactly why you want to replace them...they are hazed over due to the plastic Ford used was the wrong kind, and it has corroded. easy fix. there are two ways to fix this problem depending on how bad off your headlamps are.
1) go to auto parts store and get meguires plastix cleaner and polish, it is in a black bottle...i believe. That stuff should take care of it if it is not too bad.
2) go to almost any local hardware store and get a heat gun (high temperature) use this and evenly spread the heat over the lens of the headlamp. Heat until the lens looks glossy over the entire surface. This is actually menting the plastic on one side and bonding it back together while the other side of the lens stays hard acting like a a wall keeping the melted plastic in place.

I had this problem with my truck aswell, it turned out to be an exhaust leak right in front of my O2 sensor (aftermarket exhaust) the sensor was getting false readings from the air rushing in through the leak. Ultimately causing oddball air/fuel mixtures. I am in the process of having my exhaust changed on my 1994 Ram 1500 with the 5.2 and I was told that the O2 sensor was in the cadalitic converter and that it would not run right without the converter. You can go to JEGS.com and get a dumby sensor that just plugs in and tells your computer that it is working fine. Hope this may help!!! TEX

All you'll need are a few simple tools, enough cans of oil for your particular vehicle, and approximately 20 minutes. Needed Equipment: * Oil Filter Wrench I prefer "Strap Wrench which can be used on oil filters up to a 6" (152mm) diameter. It Strong nylon belt will not slip. Use with 1/2" square drive tools." See link to Wrench below. * As many quarts of oil as your car needs. Refer to your owner's manual for recommendation. * Oil Drain Pan (for draining the old oil into). An something like a gallon milk jugs with screw on lids work great to transport to recycle center or you can purchase an all in one. See link to Oil Pan below.
* Wheel ramps * Blocks to wedge behind your tires * Proper size wrench * Funnel * Rags * A new oil filter to fit your make and model Changing the Oil:
* Place the wheel ramps under your front tires and drive up on them. * Put on your emergency brakes and place the blocks behind your back tires. * To drain the old oil out of your car, crawl underneath and find the plug on the bottom of your oil pan. * Place your container under the pan and use your wrench to unscrew the plug. * Caution: The oil may be hot and could cause severe burns! Also, the oil will pour out quickly after the plug is removed; let it drain completely. When the oil has stopped draining, replace the plug. Replacing the oil filter: * Make sure you rub a little clean oil on the gasket of the filter to help seat properly. * Find the Oil Cap on the top of the engine it says Oil. * Using the funnel, fill the car up with as many quarts as it requires.
Last an Final check: * Once you've added the oil, start the engine while the car is still up on the ramps and let it run a bit, checking for any leaks around your oil filter and oil pan plug. * If you see oil leaking, tighten up the filter some more. * Drive your car off the ramps. ALWAYS dispose of used oil properly, preferably at a location that recycles oil.

well the fact that your light is melting wires and your stereo is now shot totally sounds like a short because of bad wiring, miss-wiring (or cross wired) or a bad ground. i would take it into autozone and have it checked for any codes and see if anything shows up that way. check under the hood, the junction under the steering wheel, and any where you can see the wires to make sure that the connetions are good and tight, in the correct places and that there isn't any or very little corrotion. (if your stereo was post production i would definitely pull it out and look at the wires behind it same with speakers) as for the brakes I'm not entirely sure. i know i had a problem with a weird undulating swooshing tapping sound about a year ago...when i went to change my pads out the little M-spring had come loose and was going in and out of the space between the pads and the rotor, but it comes down to whether it is the disk brakes or the drum brakes. i will say that the sound from the brakes is probably not from the car being "warm" just probably from usage of the brakes and them heating up. just diganose whether it is the disk or the drums (and pray that it is the disk b/c they are so much more simple than the drums to fix in my opinion)...Just remember that most of the time it is the simplest things that cause everyday problems. Just systomatically check things through out your electrical system and breaks. i hope this helps you out :D

I believe that is controlled by the ECM. If the engine is idling too fast, check the EGR valve. It is to the right (from the drivers perspective) of the throttle body. If the EGR valve is damaged or the gasket is missing it could allow the engine to idle far too fast.

Where is the fuel filter on a 97 escort lx?
The fuel filter on a 97 lx is on the firewall underneath the brake master cylinder and reservoir. It is on the drivers side of the firewall. It takes special clips to disconnect the fuel lines. They can be had at any parts house for a couple of dollars. Make sure you relieive the pressure in the fuel lines before you take them off. How you do this is to locate the Inertial cutoff valve in the lefthand kick panel in the passenger compartment. Just pry the button UP and let the engine run until it dies. Then the pressure will have been relieved. Once your done push the button down on the cutoff valve to restore pressure to the fuel system.
