How do you change an EGR valve on a 4.0L 1995 Ford Explorer?

I submitted this question and found the answer. The bolt is an 1 1/16" for the manifold exhaust that connects to the EGR valve. You will have to take a cutting torch and heat the bolt only have someone do it who is good with on because the fuel lines are below the valve and dip stick next to it. After you do work the bolt of be careful not to snap of the pipe. Then remove the other 2 bolts 10mm and replace the gasket and valve. Also, put some high temperature white lithium grease on the bolts in case you have to take it off again.

How do you adjust the rear brakes on a 2000 Mercury Mystique?

To be candid, I really don't know. However, I recently changed the (8") rear brake shoes on my 2000 Mystique. The brakes are held in adjustment by a grooved cam (not a star-wheel). One of the most difficult parts was removing the drum from the spindle. I used the required 32mm socket, then applied "gentle persuasion" to pass the drum-ridge over the brake shoes. I'm sure there is a preferred method, however, I was at the point of desperation motivated by the ever popular impending time constraint.

I am assuming your brakes are either out of adjustment, indicating either a brake-spring failure or the cam grooves have filled with brake-dust; or you have decided to change the shoes, and can't get the drums off with the shoes in the current adjustment.

SUGGESTION: Take photos of the spring orientations prior to disassembly of the shoes.

Good luck.

Where is the cutoff for the air bag in the 2001 Toyota Corolla LE?

Unless there is a clearly marked "switch" on the instrument panel, there isn't one. Most motor vehicles sold in North America do not have kill switches for the airbags. Some medium and light duty trucks do because of a rear seat and infant car seats. There may be a sensor in the passenger seat to activate the airbag only when seatsare occupied.

Where is the fuse for the moon roof motor on a 1997 Ford Contour?

i have a 1998 ford contour and as far as i know there is no fuse for the moon roof. check the wiring and see if you have power going to it. it could not have power going to it or maybe the ground wire isn't connected right. it is also possible that the motor for it is just broke and needs to be replaced. but i would stat by check for power going to it. its cheaper!

On a 1997 Chevy Cavalier how do you disable the theft system from activating?

Proud owner of a 1997 Cavalier. Cavaliers are known for having problems with the ATS (Anti-theft System). I do have to give Chevy props because they have a system that actually disables the car. Anyway, The ignition switch in a Cavalier has to read the key. The computer has a code that has to either match with the key or it has to complete the code. The best way is to stick the key in the ignition and turn it to the "on" position. DON'T crank it! Just leave it in the "on" position. The ATS light might start flashing. One key thing is that you should listen for the fuel pump to start. Crank the car on. The reason why you should wait after you turn the key to the "on" position is because it will give the computer some time to read the key. If you turn it on and the ATS is activated, then you have to wait ten minutes. Leave the key in the "on" position. After the ten minutes the light should stop flashing. When it stops flashing then you can turn the car on.

Note: When you turn the key to the "on" position, you should be able to hear the fuel pump run. If you can't hear the fuel pump, then the ATS system is ready to shut the car off. If the Anti-theft System is starting to give you problems, then your best bet is to start thinking about a visit to the dealership or a shop. Its a problem that starts off like a bite from a brown recluse spider. It's small at first but then it gets to be a huge problem if not given any treatment.

How do you add transmission fluid to 2000 ford explorer xls?

You do this by pouring transmission fluid into the tube that your transmission dipstick is in. To check for fluid level, drive the car for a few miles to make sure everything is warmed up, then park on a level spot, with the engine running, put the transmission in drive, then in reverse, then in park. With the engine still running, remove the dipstick and wipe it clean, and reinsert it, then remove it again and check the fluid level.

What does a flashing OD light in a 1993 Probe GT indicate?

It may mean that there is something wrong with the electronics of the transmission. =============================== A flashing OD light usually means that there is an error code somewhere within the engine system. My '91 Probe speed sensor went out, and the OD light continally flashes. The car also will not shift into overdrive. This may or may not be the same in your case. Best bet would be to take it somewhere and pay ~$80 for the diagnostic, or pull the codes yourself. Do some searching and you should find out how to pull the codes with no problem, as it usually only involves jumping some wires on the test connector under the hood. On my Probe, the connectors are near the drivers side strut. Basically, the car is in "limp" mode, and a default code is being used in place of what its supposed to be getting from a certain sensor, in order to keep the car operating. Kind of like "safe mode" for Windows. Hope this helps, and good luck. -Shaun

The rear hatch window does not always go up on a 98 1500?

It might be caused by weak or worn out gas struts on either side of the window. You could probably get them at any auto parts store.

Where is the low side fitting located on the accumulator drier located on a 1997 ford explorer?

On the passenger side of the engine, about 5" or so from your heater fan motor you will see a" can" with an insulation wrap around it. This is the accumulator/drier. It has 2 metal lines going into the top of it and a third fitting on top, which has a plastic cap on it. This is the low side fitting, the plastic cap is removed so the low side A/C pressure guage hose can be attached to check pressures or recharge the system.

What fuse is for power windows 2002 explorer?

Hello,

The "fuse" you seek is a simple 5 or 10 amp, which is located under you dash, on the extreme left-hand side driver's.

Easy way to find these tiny, blown fuse(s)? Go to an auto parts store and buy a "Circuit Tester" ($1.99). This simple device will have a metal, ice-pick-shaped probe, connected to a clear, cyndrical tube - which has a small light bulb ib it - and att the end of this tube, will be a black wire, with an alligator clip on the end of it.

Use? Lay on your back, on the driver's side floor board. Look under your dashboard, towards where the Emergency Brake release is at, Now, look for a small block, with multi-colored fuses in them. Take the alligator clamp, from your "Tester", and clip it to a UNPAINTED place on your steering column. Next, take the point of the "ice pick" (probe), and touch it to either of the tiny, silver squares, that are to the right/left of the fuse's amp NUMBER (i.e. 5, 10, 15, 20, 25). IF the bulb lights, the fuse is good; if it fails to light, pull it out and replace it with a new one.

My windows, door locks, radio and something else, all went out, when one of these little "10 amp fuse's" blew. I had bought an "Assorted fuse kit w/Fuse Puller" ($6.99) from my the Advanced Auto parts store, as I knew it would come in handy.

Why do Brake lights come on when key is off?

Because they are not wired through the ignition switch. This is a safety feature that all cars have.

What causes the car to shake like the tire is coming off?

Sometimes the tire really is coming off. Sometimes the belts are coming out of the tire. Such is life. Don't worry: eventually something will come apart and you'll be able to easily determine what caused the problem.

AnswerYou might want to the lug nuts to see if they are tight and that all of them are there.

If car is mechanically sound, you have a separated tire, no doubt. Put some good gloves on and run your hands around the tires. You will feel the hump on the tread. If you don't feel it on the first go, drive the car ahead one half tire revolution, and try again. Humps like to hide on the first try, sometimes.

How do you replace the drivers window motor on a 2001 ford ZX2?

Open the door. Remove all the platic "pops" holding the door panel on starting with the ones on the controls. Remove the contol panel first and unplug it. Then by pulling up and out pull off the door panel. Remove the vapour barrier and the metal piece blocking the big hole in the door panel. The regulator and motor are one piece so you'll have to remove the window by loosening the screws attaching it to the regulator. Then remove the 3 bolts holding the motor and the few bolts holding the rest of the regulator track. Then Install a new (or used) regulator/motor combo and attach the window to it with the adjustment bolts. put back the metal "blocker" in the big hole. Then put back the vapour barrier. Then put back the door panel making sure that the wiring harness is accessible so you can connect the contols. Then put the contols back on and you're DONE!
Hint- if you forget where something goes you can just remove the panel on the other door and check where everything goes.

How to Replace drivers electric window motor on 1990 F150?

Answer - Check out answer #2 also below I have a 1990 F150 and I've changed both power window motors in it, twice.

First, be sure it's the motor, not the switch. There's a quick disconnect inside the door. Disconnect the motor there and attach either an automotive test light or a voltmeter and try to raise/lower the window. You should see 12 VDC with a meter or the test light should come on. If it does, try the motor.

To remove the motor, first secure the window glass with several long pieces of duct tape, or something similar, to keep the glass from falling once you remove the window regulator.

There are three or four rivets that hold the window regulator assembly to the door. These will have to be drilled out and then you can remove the assembly. You have to slide the regulator arm out of the bottom track of the window itself, and then it's a matter of maneuvering the assembly out of the door.

Once it's out, there are three bolts that hold the motor to the assembly. Remove the motor and replace it. I have aftermarket motors from one of the major auto parts stores which have lifetime warranties, which I've already made use of. They are much cheaper than the dealership, and will honor their warranty as well. Do your homework on price.

To reinstall, reassemble the motor/regulator and worm it back into the door. Since you drilled out the rivets, you can use 1/4-20 bolts, washers and nuts to hold the assembly on. Put the bolts in from INSIDE the door, so that the bolt head is facing inside, and the bolt body is sticking out. Use at least a 1 inch bolt, and once you have the washers and nuts on it, tighten it down and cut off the excess using a rotary tool with a cutoff wheel. If you don't, your door panel won't fit.

This is exactly what I did on my truck, like I said, on both doors. Twice. Once because I used a part from a junkyard and it died, and once because the aftermarket part broke.

Hope it helps...

ANSWER #2

I didn't remove the regulator just the motor. Remove the door panel and the bracket (2 screws) allowing you to reach the motor by placing your arm into the door.

The motor has three bolts holding it to the regulator. One is visible but a socket wont fit on it. Cut out a small V shaped piece of the door with metal cutters (tin snips) to gain access to the bolt. Then hold the new motor up to the door (using the visible bolt as a guide) and mark where the other 2 bolts are (my truck had dimples in the metal already). Drill a 1/2 inch hole on these marks. You now have access to the bolts.

I broke loose the bolts then used a cordless drill with the socket to remove the bolts while holding up the motor. To install the new motor rotate it into the regulator so the gears mesh then while holding it start each of the bolts. Then tighten with the cordless. It works the same using a rachet just takes a little longer.

The job took about an hour and a half and wasn't the hard..
