YOU MAY WANT TO CHECK THE MASS AIR FLOW CENSOR. IT MAY NEED TO BE CLEANED OR REPLACED. ALSO MAKE SURE YOUR AIR FILTER IS CLEAN. if you really want to see what it is open the hood and have someone start it. Find the mass air flow sensor and as it is running tap lightly on it. If it straightens it out that is the problem if not i say go to the iac valve and replace it. That was a common problem with probes. The iac is called an idle air control valve and is usually around 60 to 80 dollars at autozone. ===================== The pins on the connector for the mass air flow sensor can become lax over time as well, causing the engine to not receive proper signals from the MAF. Take off the connector and push the metal connectors down so they apply pressure to the other side of the connection once it is plugged in again. Just something free to try first before buying parts. Also consider pulling the codes from the engine by jumping some test connectors in the engine compartment. Do some searching on the net, and you should be able to find out exactly how and what codes mean what. Check the main air intake hose as well, on the older model Probes at least, the hoses crack, and when gas is applied, the engine will move slightly, opening up the crack in the hose, and causing a massive vacuum leak. -Shaun

It sounds like a wheel bearing in your hub is worn out. These are hard to diagnose when you turn the wheel(or hub) by hand, they may seem fine but vibrate at higher speeds.Check if there is any dirt stuck in your rims or if a rim has lost a balance weight.

How do you change the stop light bulb on a 1993 Ford Probe?
1. Open trunck/liftgate 2. Remove the top screw holding the tailight housing cover to the body. 4. Remove the black plastic tailight housing covers. (They have snaps holding them in place) 3. Slide/Shift the left sided tailight housing to the left, vise-versa if removing the right. Dont be afraid to use a bit of force, they will slide out. 5. Rotate the bulb holder 1/8-turn counter clockwise and pull it out of the housing.
did you try reseting the fuel cutoff in the truck. it will be under the carpet, drivers side, there will be a sign.
How do you remove the door panel from a 1996 Ford Probe?
Unscrew the screws on the side of the door panal and around the door handle on the inside and pull the window lever off. On Probe's with power opt's, the screws will still be near the controller, just don't pull too hard on the panel. You can unclip the controller once the panel is loose.
How do you get the factory CD player out of a 1997 Probe GT?
I had problems too, but the trick is, u have to either get the proper hooks to fit inside the wholes on the radio to pull it out, or devise your own from 2 pieces of bent coathangers. You will find 2 wholes on each side of your tape deck approximately 1 1/2" apart on top of each other. Insert the devises in both wholes and simultaneously while pushing away from each other, and pulling you should be able to free the deck. Be advised that Ford also has a pre-amp located somewhere along the wiring of your speaker wires so that once you do get the radio out, you have to find that amplifier and re-route the wires from that point as well otherwhise an aftermarket stereo will not work. Ford Sucks when it comes to the stereo department huh? Good Luck
Engine overheats When a car or truck overheats idling, in town, on the highway, while towing, etc. it is important to find out the reason to prevent engine damage. First, with the engine cold, make sure the radiator is full of coolant; if it is low, fill it and keep the radiator cap off while the engine idles to insure all air is bled out of the system ( air trapped in the system can cause overheating also). Check the coolant level daily; if the coolant goes down without visible leaks, it may be a head gasket starting to leak which will also cause the heater to blow cold air due to the lack of available coolant. If the coolant stays full, but the car continues to overheat, the next step is to replace the thermostat in the engine and flush the cooling system if that has not been done over the last few years.Buy a thermostat at a parts store and a PRESTONE flush kit which has excellent directions on the package. After completing these steps and the vehicle still overheats, have your cooling fan sensor/switch ( if equipped)checked out to insure it is coming on. Water pumps are seldom the cause as they are mechanical and will continue to work until their bearings give out. Finally, the radiator itself is often the problem as it tends to build up corrosion internally which prevents it from transfering engine heat to the coolant. Remove it and have it 're-cored'. One of these steps will solve the problem.
