What is wrong with a 1994 Ford Tempo if it sputters like it wants to stall when you are at a stoplight and the RPM gauge goes crazy?

When I've had that problem it has always been one of two things. 1) TP (Throttle Position) sensor or 2) Air flow sensor. Both typically being over $150 if taken to a mechanic. Hope this helped.

If you remove the Air Flow Sensor (Takes a special star shaped socket with a hole in it) and remove the top cover of the Air Flow Sensor and clean it off by spraying it with electrical cleaner till it is a shiny silver again. that may take care of the problem also. After I did this on my 92 Tempo, it ran like new! There is a O-ring seal that you have to be careful not to damage. When you tighten the cover back down, just snug it up good - don't over-tighten it. The Air Flow Sensor lets the engine know how much air is coming in so it can increase the amount of fuel that is being sprayed into the throttle body. I am not sure what you mean by the RPM's going crazy? Is it like the engine surges? You could also possibly have a vacuum leak somewhere.

AnswerThere is a vacuum hose on the left side of the engine towards the rear. Make sure both ends are plugged in. It can get disconnected while working on the engine, and it can pull itself out. It will cause your problem.

How do you change the fuel pump on a 1994 Ford Tempo?

Answer Change the fuel pumpIf you have to ask how to do it DONT TRY IT. The risk of fire or skin burns from spilled gasoline (it doesnt have to be on fire, skin contact with a gas soaked shirt can produce serious skin burns), the risk of burning down your garage or house is just too much to risk. You must have some special tools to disconnect the fuel lines as well as a jack with a platform to support the tank when it comes off. Better to work a few extra hours at your job and get the money to pay someone to do the job he does every day. That way you will be doing something you are good at so he can do something he is good at. That's a fair trade. AnswerI am afraid the fuel tank has got to be removed. You will need to jack up the rear of the car as high as you can on a very stabile surface, like a concrete floor and put jackstands under it, because you will be under the car for a while. Unfortunately, you can't even emplty the tank by siphoning it out, because there is a screen in the filler neck to keep the gas from being stolen. I hope the tank is somewhat empty already. You will need help ad a good floor jack, and I would suggest a large piece of wood to puut between the tank ad the jack to give more stability as you are lowering the tank. To remove the tank, position your wood and jack under the ank remove any hoses you can reach. Remove the two big straps that hold the tank to the underbody, and SLOWLY lower the tank with the floorjack. Remove fuel lines and wires as they become accessible as you are lowering the tank. Once you get the tank on the floor, you can remove the large fuel pump lock ring in the middle of the tank. It just releases by turning it counter-clockwise(a hammer and a screwdriver may help you to turn it). Once you get that off, the rest is self-explanatory, but would advise emptying the fuel from the tank into a container. Believe me you will want that tank to be as close to empty as possible as you fight it back into place. I wish you success.

Why power door locks don't work on 1993 Ford Tempo?

Make sure you have voltage to the master switch and any subseuent individual door switches. If the switch is not "clicking" when you depress it, and you have voltage to it, the problem is more than likely in the switch itself. You can take it apart carefully and check for proper alignment and corrosion. If the switch is working and allowing voltage thru the contacts--check the solenoid in the door. Check for voltage on the solenoid connector wiring terminals when you depress the switch. If you have voltage then you either have a bad solenoid (check by supplying voltage to one terminal and grounding the other--then reverse the connections) or bad wiring to ground. I'd personally check the solenoid first for voltage and work back toward the switches

Is there a trunk release on a 1994 Tempo?

Yes, it is on the left hand side along with the fuel door release button inside the glove box.

How do you replace the front brake pads on a 1994 Ford Tempo?

Front brake job. 1994 ford tempoWhen you pull the tire off take a #T30 Star Key not an Allen key to remove the brake caliper. Check the rotor see if its needs to be cut or replaced. Put your freshly cut rotor on or new rotor on. After this take a C-Clamp and a socket (any size deep recommended) and start tightining the C-Clamp to recomprese the piston on your caliper. If the caliper doesn't easly comprese the piston is seized and your going to have to replace the caliper, if the piston compreses put your new brake shoes/pads on starting with the rear pad (the small one) then the front (the bigger one). Slide the caliper on and tighten the star keys and your done.

P.S Take the caliper off starting with the top first then the bottom and do the exact opposite to put it back on.

Diagram how to remove wheel bearing off 93 ford tempo?

This is asking a bit much for a wiki and you could probably find this elsewhere. No need to reinvent the wheel, ehh?

I think it would be best if you submitted this as a web search for immediate information needs. Alternatively the store which sells you the replacement parts may give you a print out with directions and necessary diagrams.

I will add this advice though; this task will require a few special tools; bearing puller, grease gun etc; these are likely available for rent as a kit from the retailer selling you the parts. I recommend you phone around first and find a store where all these things can be had in one place. When it comes to auto parts, service is more important than convenience or low cost, go with the place that is most helpful.

Where can you find a diagram of a Ford Tempo engine?

When working on an engine it is important to have a diagram to help a person recognize the parts. A diagram for a Ford Tempo Engine is found in its manual.

How do you change the heater fan on a 1992 tempo with ac?

Remove the glove box. You can now see the fan. About 5 or 6 little screws to remove, un plug the wire contact, and remove. Might be a little tight, but it will come out only one way. There is a flat side on the fan casing. Just keep moving it around to get it out. There is only this one fan.

How do you flush the cooling system of a 1993 Ford Tempo?

There are two little nuts on the bottom of the radiator on the inside (On the side of the motor) Turn one and loosen the other, then pop the top, and letter flow.

The above procedure will only empty the radiator. You need a kit to flush out all of the old coolant. Check any NAPA autoparts store. They can help you out.

Where is the thermostat located on a 1992 Ford Tempo 2.3L 4 cylinder?

The thermostat is located at the end of the 2" radiator hose that leads into the engine block. The housing doesn't look like the traditional round ball. Also, there is a "sensor" that plugs into the housing. Hope this helps.

How do you Remove harmonic balancer 94 tempo?

Removal

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable at the battery terminal.

2. Disconnect the battery ground strap from the starboard side of the engine near the passenger side strut tower by removing the bottom bolt of the fuel line shield.

3. Release tension on the belt tensioner and remove the drive belt.

4. Remove the fuel line shield. {If you don't, it will prevent the engine from dropping down far enough later when you try to lower the engine to remove and reinstall the harmonic balancer. It is also nice to have this out before trying to remove the water pump pulley.}

5. Remove the belt tensioner. {It will be in the way when attempting to remove the engine side of the starboard engine mount.}

6. Mark front side of the water pump pulley and then remove the water pump pulley.

7. Check the bearings and free play of the water pump, idler pulley, and belt tensioner pulley. If any of these is worn, replace it now. You have already done the labor!

8. Raise and support the vehicle.

9. Remove bolt for accumulator-to-compressor A/C line support bracket, then position A/C line toward rear of engine compartment.

10. Installa Rotunda Engine Support Bar 014-00750 or equivalent;

Or position a bottle jack or equivalent and safety stands under the transmission and engine, use blocks of wood to protect the oil and transmission pans.

11. Remove both sides of the starboard engine mount. {Remove the second half of the mount on the engine side as well as the half on the wheel well. This means getting to the upside down 18mm nut at the firewall end of the engine mount. I have had success getting to this from underneath the car with a long extension.}

12. Remove right (starboard) side bushing bracket and mounting bracket for stabilizer.

13. Remove the vibration harmonic balancer bolt:

a. Option A) Remove the 7/8" vibration harmonic balancer bolt through the opening in the wheel well after removing the passenger side {starboard} front tire. Then lower the engine assembly taking care not to crush the fuel fittings that were protected by the fuel line shield.

b. Option B) Carefully Lower the engine assembly and then remove the 7/8" vibration harmonic balancer bolt from under the car. IF, and ONLY IF, you do not have adequate clearance under the car to remove the old or install the new vibration harmonic balancer, perform these additional steps:

i. Remove front isolator through-bolts and lower retaining nuts.

ii. Remove rear isolator through-bolts.

iii. Remove right isolator lower retaining nut, then carefully lower drivetrain.

14. Remove the vibration harmonic balancer. If necessary, use Bearing Puller T77F-4220-B or equivalent. Your vibration harmonic balancer may come off in up to three pieces, the outer sheet metal, the pulley portion including the long ago deteriorated rubber, and the metal sleeve with the key slot that slips over the end of the crankshaft. Fortunately, my metal sleeve came off with a little gentle prying; yours may require a gear puller.

1994 Ford Tempo GL 2.3L Harmonic Balancer Removal and Replacement

Installation is NOT just the reverse of the Removal procedure!

1. Install the NEW vibration harmonic balancer {Removal #14}.

  1. Install the NEW vibration harmonic balancer bolt {Stretch design for one time use}. Torque to ______ nm or _______ ft. lbs. {Removal #13.}
  2. Raise the engine assembly {Removal #13}.
  3. Replace any optional nuts & bolts you may have removed under 1.i, 1.ii, and 1.iii above.
  4. Install the water pump pulley {Removal #6}. {Check the orientation. Is the front you marked pointed away from the engine? Due to the offset, if you put it on backwards it will shred your new drive belt.}
  5. Install the belt tensioner {Removal #5}.
  6. Release tension on the belt tensioner and install the NEW drive belt {Removal #3}.
  7. Reposition the A/C line and reinstall the bolt for the accumulator-to-compressor A/C line support bracket {Removal #9}.
  8. Install the engine side of the motor mount {1/2 of Removal #11}.
  9. Install the mounting bracket for the stabilizer bar {Removal #12}.
  10. Install the retaining bolts-to-stabilizer bar brackets {Removal #12}.
  11. Remove supports and lower vehicle {Removal #8}.
  12. Install engine mount on wheel well {1/2 of Removal #11}.
  13. Remove Rotunda Engine Support Bar 014-00750 or equivalent {Removal #10}.
  14. Install fuel line shield. {Bottom bolt secures the battery ground strap. Removal #'s 2 & 4.}
  15. Connect the battery ground cable {Removal #1}.

Where is the thermostat located on a 1991 Ford Tempo?

I have a 91 Tempo. My VIN has an 'X' in the 8th(?) "Digit" and that seems to have something to do w/ the engine. My thermostat is in a housing on the driver's side of the engine. It's just below the valve cover, and left of the air cleaner. The housing on mine has 2 sensors w/ wires on it, and a large and small hose fitting. It comes off w/ 2 fairly small-headed bolts. Good Luck!

Where is the fuse box on the 1993 Ford Tempo?

one location is under the drivers side dash to the left of the steering colum. Some fuses are located there. Try the glove box.

Why do your brakes make a hissing sound when applied on a 1989 ford tempo?

Sounds like are running "metal to metal" . Brake linings need to be replaced ==== Another thing that can cause hissing too is if your vacuum assist has a vacuum leak in it. As you apply pressure it it is forcing air out of this leak. This can sometimes be heard inside the vehicle if it is big enough. It usually causes you to have to use more force on the pedal to stop also.
