What could cause a windstar to have no heat?

A no heat issue can be caused by 1 or more faults for any vehicle, you first must isolate the trouble. Knowing that your heat derives from the circulation of engine coolant throughout the HVAC system, first determine if you have a coolant leak or not. Check your reserve tank levels if it is extremely low or completely empty add sufficient amount of coolant mixture ( coolant mixed with water ) to the correct levels run the engine to help purge air then add more if needed. if heat begins to work inside your vehicle then you must locate where the leak is and correct that issue. If your trouble is not from low coolant and you have a sufficient amount then look elsewhere ... making sure the radio is off and you can block out all other ambient noises pay close attention to the area of the radio in the windstar with the vehicle running first turn off the recirculation fan and place the temp dial on coldest. move the recirculation fan setting to the first running mark ( 1 ) then move the temp dial all the way hot, do you notice a slam noise or a clicking noise ? the slam ( shut ) noise is normal, sounds that of you cupping your hands the closing them together firmly yet soft. if the noise is that of clicking this is abnormal and the resolution would be to replace the heater control valve located behind the radio cost is apx 50 USD from the dealership and takes about 10 minutes to replace. However you will need the ford factory radio removal tool to pull the radio out to get to this location. The ford factory radio removal tool cost apx 5 USD can cal be brought from radio or car electric shops even at best buy.

Where is and how do you install a camshaft position sensor CPS on a Ford Windstar?

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0340 - Camshaft Position Sensor

Your cam position sensor or the wiring leading to it has gone bad. It will cause occasional rough running and hard starting until it is replaced.

Answer

Look for a thing at the front (relative to engine) of the intake manifold that looks like a great place to put a distributor. It is bigger than a quarter but smaller than a teacup, round, made of plastic. two screws attach it to the cam sensor synchro. Do not rotate the synchro unless:

1: It is necessary to do so and

2: you have the alignment too to realign the synchro.

Camshaft position sensor is where the "distributor" used to be on the same engine prior to 1995. It's at the "front" of the engine, which is on the passenger side of the car; it's a bit tricky getting to it. The best way is to (first disconnect the battery) remove the alternator (3 15mm bolts, and don't forget to unplug the regulator connector first) and move it out of the way, then look down and you'll find the round black sensor plugged into the wiring harness. It's held on with 2 small bolts (forgot the size, but I think it's 5.5mm). It's directly behind the power steering tubes and water pump by-pas tube. It's just a magnetic pickup and not common for it to go bad, however if that's your problem, and you're going to replace it, DON'T rotate the engine or your initial timing will be off. If you have to move it, use care and remove the hold-down bolt completely and use plenty of penetrating/lubricant spray. Mark the position of the sensor and rotate the whole unit, then after replacing it, be sure to put the unit back in the EXACT same position from where you started. Hope this helps!

Answer

On top of the cam sensor synchronizer which is sticking out of the top of the timing cover on the front of the engine.

On top of the cam sensor synchonizer which is sticking out of the top of the timing cover on the front of the engine.

Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the two 7/32 screws holding it on, and replace it.

On the 3.8L it is like a little distributor at the front of the engine in the top of the timing cover. It has been a while but I think it just has one screw and clamp holding it in. You should also have the engine on TDC #1 and mark the old one before you pull it out. This makes life a lot easier if the engine would by chance turn with the sensor removed. MGL

How do you add freon to a 1999 Astro van?

The 99 Chevy Astro uses the refrigerant R-134a. You can purchase R-134a and all the tools to recharge your A/C system from any auto parts store, most department stores, some warehouse stores, and even at convenience/gas stations.

Make sure to use a high side pressure gauge and thermometer to ensure a proper charge. Follow the directions included with the tools.

The problem is that refrigerant R-134a does not 'go bad', it leaks out from a part of the system. You should determine where the leak is and fix it, you will usually see oil residue where the leak is located. A very common place on Chevy/GM vehicles to leak is the A/C compressor. These can be replaced from after-market suppliers.

How do you change the rear brakes on a Ford Windstar?

Please leave this with the professional as the ABS system is very sensitive to any adjustment with the clearances. Any shop should be able to help you out. Note: Repairing is ok but safety is first... take off the wheels and the drums. You will then see the shoes. then you can replace and reassemble I have replaced my 2001 Windstar drum brakes with no problems. They're exactly like very other drum brake I have worked on over the years.

If you don't have experience with drum brakes, or don't have - or want to buy a Chilton's or Haynes Manual, register at Autozone.com to get FREE access to their Chiltons Repair Guide.

The section on these brakes is terrific - with lots of photos and illustrations to enhance the step-by-step instructions. ---- This could be a hard job is you have not done brakes before. I would recommend a Haynes manual if you have limited experience. You need to pull the rear tires - then take the drums off to get to the pads. Then you have to take the springs off (2 per side) then take off the adjuster. Then compress the wheel cylinder - install new pads, grease on the metal rubbing parts - re-install the adjuster (adjust it all the way down (it will usually need to be lubricated as well)) then put the springs back on. Check the drums for warpage or other defects - you can have them machined. Score with sandpaper if they need nothing. Replaced the drums and put the wheels back on and you are good to go.

How do you replace a 2001 ford windstar subframe?

The first thing you do is check to see if your van falls under the massive recall that Ford had for this very part, chances are it does. I believe that the Ford recall number for this particular part is 11S16. If in fact it does fall under the recall just go to your local Ford dealer and tell them that it is recalled. Just so you know, most of these vans also have a recall for a defective rear axle as well.

Were is the airbag fuse in a 98 Tacoma?

it is located in the fuse box next to the battery, the diagram on the lid will say.

Actually, it's not labeled Airbag or SRS per se. There are a couple that are related to the light illumination, etc. But one of the main ones is located under the dash on the drivers side and it's the 15A (ECU-B) fuse.

Under the hood, the 80A and 40A are in the direct line from the battery.

How do you replace a taillight - brake light bulb - lens assembly on a Windstar?

  • Open rear liftgate to access tail light assembly
  • Remove the 2 screws from the top of the tail light lens.

Note: there may also be a 'friction clip' or two holding the lens - gently tug on the lens to release

  • Rotate bulb socket counterclockwise and remove from lamp assembly
  • Pull bulb straight out of socket and push in new bulb.

These steps are detailed, and illustrated in the Owners Manual (see "Related Questions")

Your taillamp lens is not removable on it's own. It is a component type lamp/ To access this lamp you do so by removing the inside corner access panel, Your can change the bulbs from this point buy removing( unscrewing) the wires to the component and you wil have access to change the bulb. If your trying to remove the component, there will be 4 bolts that when removed, allow the tailamp to be removed.

The tailights are sealed units and don't come apart.

Open the rear hatch and likely you will find 2 screws along the inside edge of the taillight lens. Remove them.

There are 2 clips located along the outside edge that will pull out with some tugging outwards on the lens assembly.

  • Remove the two retainer screws from the top of the tail light lens.
  • Remove the lens assembly by lifting the it outwards at a 45 degree angle.
  • Rotate the bulb socket counter-clockwise to remove from the back of the lens
  • Remove the bulb from the socket by pulling straight out

With the rear hatch open, you will see 2 screws at the top of the taillight lens - remove those screws and pull the top of the lens outward at an angle (not straight back, nor straight to the side) to release the retainer clip.

To remove the lightbulb sockets from the lens, turn the socket counter-clockwise about a quarter of a turn.

AnswerRemove the two Philip screws and pull lens strait out towards you to obtain access to the bulbs. Turn bulb holder counter clockwise to remove from lens. Pull old bulb strait out and replace with a new one.

Open the tailgate and you will see the screws that hold it on - take those out and then pull the unit out.

AnswerWith the rear hatch open, you will see 2 screws at the top of the taillight - remove those and the assembly will tilt out and up off the bottom locators.
