What causes a catalytic converter to turn red?
The purpose of the catalytic converter is to change any unburned hydrocarbons into carbon dioxide and water. As engines become less efficient unburned hydrocarbons and often even raw fuel can be sent out the exhaust.
Once unburned hydrocarbons get to the catalytic converter they are oxidized, resulting in the release of quite a bit of heat.
If your catalytic converter is running that hot, you SERIOUSLY need a tune-up and possibly other engine work. The appropriate repairs will help your fuel economy and give you better performance. My name is Michael and I have a 1991 Cadillac Eldorado, 8 cyl. I had a mechanic from work look at my car. He noticed my catalytic converter turning red, so he said, that was my problem. So I towed my car to Meineke, and they put in a brand new converter. It still turned red. So I towed it back to my home and had new spark plugs, new spark plug wires, new pcv valve, new throttle sensor, and replaced both 02 oxygen sensors, front and back. The Catalytic Converter, is still turning red. I saw someone say, it could be the EGR valve, online. So that is what i am going to do next payday, replace that. If anyone, knows what the real problem is, let me know. I keep doing the things i see online here, but so far, the converter is still turning red. I have also paid for 2 dignostic test to find out, and because the test are by reading the information after i hold the OFF and WARMER BUTTON down. I still do not see what the main problem is. Someone please help me find out what is my problem, Thanks
How do you reset the anti theft on a 96 Grand Am?
How do you reset the anti theft on a 96 pontiac grand am?
Ok, please follow this very closely. Turn the key on to the on position. Just far enough as to not start your car. You will see anti-theft system flashing. Let it flash for about 10 min. When it quits flashing, remove the key and let it set for about a minute or two. Put the key in the ignitiion and attempt to start. It should work. This worked for me.
What would cause 1990 Volvo 740 GL to stall while driving?
There are several things that can cause your 1990 Volvo 740 to stall while driving. The most common cause is a bad fuel pump.
Why would a 1999 Wrangler Sahara stall at stop lights as well as while driving down the highway?
I would first check to make sure the security chip is clean and well seated. I had to get mine replaced as my Jeep was doing the same thing.
Another possibility is that that the idle air valve may have carbon and gunk built up on it. This part bolts onto the throttle body, but is relatively easy to get to once the throttle body is unbolted from the engine. It can be cleaned with a can of carb/choke cleaner, which is cheap. You would need to have a set of torx sockets to remove the valve from the throttle body to clean it, but you will only be removing two screws, so I would recommend borrowing some if you don't have any.
What would cause a grinding noise when turning the steering wheel in a 2004 Volvo S40?
Check the wheel bearings
if it is only when you turn, you may want to check the backing plate as if it gets bent or warped, it can rub on the rotor as you turn. I had that problem, and a simple bend into shape and it was fixed.
Gauges are spinning what does that mean?

Windstar transmission fluid - How much - what type - how to check levels - dipstick?
Mercon V is the specified fluid type
Recommend a Synthetic ATF - it will last longer and resist the heat better as well. You could also install the separate Transmission oil cooler and filter to help prolong the transmission life.
1995-1998 - 12.25 qts. / 11.6 liters
1999-2003 - 13.7 qts. / 13.0 liters
Through the dipstick tube if automatic transmission.
Through a removable plug on the side of the transmission if standard/manual trans.
Refill through dipstick tube DO NOT OVERFILL
NOTE:You'll need a funnel with a somewhat long tube in order to reach down into the engine compartment to the top of the tube. This is well detailed and illustrated in the Owners Manual - See "Related Questions" below for more
Transmission fluid goes into the same small tube that the transmission dipstick is in.

Which fuse or relay operates the driver's side electric seat on a 2000 Ford Windstar SEL?
I believe the owners manual say it is #104, in the fuse panel that is next to the battery. My power seat will not operate and I looked in the book several hours ago. I still cannot figure out how to open the fuse box to test the fuse. Greg Also make sure you haven't lost the ground to the seat switch. It is the black wire coming from the seat switch assembly. It goes to a terminal (g-200) in the left kick panel. The reason I say this is the Windstar must have close to 50 ground points in the control system. Losing one will cause a group of devices to stop working. I suggest getting a set of wiring diagrams if you are going to work on this vehicle. It is VERY complex. I got mine for next to nothing on-line. At least now my confusion is organized. Carl
Should the timing chain on a 1995 Isuzu Trooper be replaced after 100 thousand miles?
It's actually a timing belt and the recommended interval for replacement is every 50,000 miles.
It is most likely due to a loose power steering belt. If the steering wheel is hard to turn at speeds slower than 40mph or it gets harder the more you turn it and the squeaking noise happens when you turn the wheel, then you need to check the tension on the power steering belt.
Overheating can cause some serious engine problems. Once the check engine light is on you need to use an engine diagnostic code reader to find out what's wrong. You can borrow, rent or buy the code scanner from most auto parts retailers.
How do you fix traction control on a Ford Windstar?
Depends on what is wrong with it.
My traction control did not work as long as there was a problem with one of the ABS wheel sensors - the two functions are tightly integrated.
