Fuel and Engines

We commonly relate fuel and engines with gasoline. Other engines also run on natural gas such as propane and “bio-fuels” such as ethanol. The principle remains the same as the fuel induces internal combustion.

How often do you need to do a tune up?

the safest way is to do it every 6 months theh most safest way is every season( fall, winter, etc.)

How do you retrieve a freeze plug if it falls into the engine block?

You might be able to fish it out using a section of coat hanger wire or one of those magnets with a flexible handle. Failing this, leave it in the block, as it falls to the bottom of the water jacket where it will pose minimal flow or cooling loss.

Please Note: Most freeze plugs are lead coated brass and are non-magnetic & the freeze plug can block waterflow in the cylinder jacket (water flow will move it around more-so when driving) so I would not suggest leaving it in the block.

2001 S10 4.3 Vortec must be primed at the intake with gas to start Runs after that until you shut it off then have to prime again Could it be the fuel pressure regulator?

Start with a fuel pressure test. Pump running with engine off you should have 60-66 max PSI. Turn the pump off, pressure will drop to aprox 52 then it should hold.

How do you change the harmonic balancer on a 2003 Chevrolet Impala and where is it located?

If you put in a chip in your 2000 F350 V10 will that improve gas mileage and by how much?

most likely not. v-10 keep this in mind. city driving is the worst on this engine. 2 more cylinders sucking fuel all the time. highway driving should be ok though depending on how long. this engine was fords cheep way of giveing the person that wanted engine power for pulling or pto without the price of the diesel.

How do you build and install a water fuel converter for a 2003 pon tiac grand prix gt?

first you take a heater or a stove and you boil the water which will turn into steam and the steam will poduce energy which it would turn into electricity in which you can use it for steam locomotive and other stuff.

Can you adjust the RPM on your engine yourself?

Why would you want to? It is computer controlled, so I don't see how you could.

Well, there are a couple of things I can think of. First, your low RPMs might be caused by a bad fuel/air mixture, which is often the O2 sensor which is around 50 - 100 dollars. Another thing it might be is is bad spark plugs or wires. For what you're talking about, you probably don't want to adjust the RPM level (I take it you mean its idling RPMs) however you can do so. Since your car isn't carbureted, you would have to edit your ECU, which can be done with specialized computer programs installed on a laptop which is then wired into the ECU. Those run anywhere from 200 dollars on up.

Practically speaking, no you can't adjust the idle speed. More to the point, the problem is not simply a matter of misadjustment, and if you were to somehow effect an adjustment, that could very likely cause other problems. Something is broken/malfunctioning/disconnected/etc. The thing to do is find the problem causing the poor idle. When the problem is fixed, the idle speed will fall into line.

Why does your engine idle up and down while driving?

Could be your MAP sensor or Absolute Manifold Pressure sensor same thing usually mounted on or near the firewall and has at least two hoses"vacuum" going into it.

Are bad motor mounts dangerous?

How do you align the timing marks on a quad 4 sohc engine?

What kind of Engine does a 1990 Chevy S-10 have?

Depends. The Majority Of These Are Equiped With A 4 Cylinder 2.5. However Some Had V6 Engines. The V6 Is Either A 2.8 Or A 4.3 The Short Beds Were 4 Cylinder. The Long Beds You Could Get Anyone Of These Three Engines. If It Is A 4 Cyl. It Would Be a 2.5 If You Have A V6 You Can Find The Size By A Number In The Vin Number. The VIN # Will Be 17 Caracters Long It May Be The Fourth Letter Or Number That Will Tell The Engine Size. Call A Dealer If You Need More Info As To The V6 Displacement. HOPE THIS HELPS

What would be some of causes for a knock in the motor?

Running engines make a lot of noises, but when someone tells me that someone hears a "knock", I want to hear it myself. A knock that can be heard at idle is generally an indication of a serious mechanical failure...engine main and/or rod bearings and piston clearances come to mind. A knock that sounds like pebbles rattling in a tin can only under acceleration is a different problem, and is called "spark knock". This is when the fuel mixture in the engine lights off before it's supposed to and is caused by fuel octane rating too low for the engine, advanced ignition timing or excessive carbon buildup in the combustion chamber. Hope this helps and for more tips, see my bio page...

What happens when you put in unleaded gas instead of diesel gas?

The engine won't run well and - depending on how much wrong fuel you put in - the diesel engine could end-up badly damaged if try to run it more than a few seconds.

Unleaded gas is simply not suitable to run a diesel engine. Engines which run on unleaded use a much lower compression ratio than diesel engines.

You need to drain the tank and the whole fuel delivery system and then refill the tank with diesel.

What is the tolerance for the gas level in the float bowl of the carborator compared to the external mark on the bowl for a 1993 Yamaha 535 when measured with a clear hose attached to the bowl drain?

According to the Clymer service manual, "The fuel level should be 0.53-0.57 in. (13.5-14.5 mm) below the piston valve center mark on the float bowl." (The "piston valve center" is marked near the round protrusion on the back of the carb, the side with the fuel lines)
