Geo Metro

The Geo Metro was a small economy car produced between 1989 and 2001. The first generation model was available as 3-door and 5-door hatchback, as well as 4-door notchback sedan. It came in three trim levels: XFi, Base and LSi.

1996 geo metro and it is smoking oil smoke and in 1st gear automatic transmission it acts real sluggish like trying to drive with the emergency brake on. What is wrong?

There seems to be engine wear (smoke). Excessive wear. trans could also be worn your emergency brake - which is connected to a rear brake drum - could well be stuck... is your car in shape or has been neglected

You need to change your piston ring and maybe one of your cylinder might be bad that's why your car is probably slowing you down. The best way get a used motor from a junkyard.

How can you remove a dashboard for a 1995 Geo Metro?

This is a big project. The first question should be "Can I get to what I want to fix without removing the entire dash?" There are a few covers which can be removed with little more than a screwdriver to help you get access to what you need. If the answer is no, I would suggest you buy a factory service manual. These can be had on eBay for around $50-75 USD if you shop around. If you are serious about working on this car, a manual is a wise investment, much like having the proper tools. I would avoid a Haynes or chilton manual for anything beyond basic maintenance, I own both of them as well as the factory manual and they pale in comparison to the factory manual.

If you still want to remove the dash, keep careful track of all of the pieces you remove and where they came from, and carefully mark and store the pieces in several pill bottles, an egg carton, parts holder, etc. If you have access to a digital camera, take many picures, and make sure you can see the pictures clearly.

How do you put transmission fluid in a 1995 Geo Metro?

For all automatic transmissions you add fluid through the dipstick tube.

What would cause timing sprocket to loosen and bend keys on a 94 3cyl you have even welded on and still breaks loose and jumps time?

Was this car running before? It sounds like maybe the crankshaft is broken or maybe a rod came loose and is causing a bind when it cranks.

Why will a 1999 Chevy metro not start?

99 Metro won't start

I have a similar complaint. Our 99 Metro 1L (3 cylinder) distributor engine has failed to start 4 times in the last 3 months. We wait a day or so and it starts fine and runs another week or so. today it quit again. I put a timing light on it and confirmed the reason it won't start is there is no ignition signal getting to the plugs (ala no spark no fire). I talked to the dealer and he is guessing it is the "ignition module". The only want $400 to replace it (includes $44 labor). I can get a new one at Rock Auto for $80 and install it myself in 5 minutes so don't think I'll go to the dealer. I'm still not sure it is the cause of my problem however because the problem is so intermittent. I'm going to do some coil voltage checks prior to ordering any parts. So, the first question you should ask before you start throwing money at it is "do I have spark". Just put on a timing light and turn it over, no spark, no start. If you have spark than start looking at your fuel system, eg pump, etc. If you don't have spark, fix it first.

Good luck

Timing is off. Remember it requires that the 2 timing cams be positioned right to get optimal fire to plugs.

What could be the problem if your 95 Geo Metro 4 cyc keeps blowing the IG 15 amp fuse?

eek! if by "IG", you mean "Ignition", then that's what's causing your problem; the 1995 GEO Metro 4-cylinder requires a 70amp fuse, not a 15amp!

a quick note on the 70amp fuse, I've had to change mine before, and trust me, they are HARD TO FIND in most auto stores (Napa, Schucks, Autozone, etc); most of the 70amp fuses available in the US are pos/neg inverted, meaning the copper nodes are sort of crossed horizontally on each other (one on top of the other, like folded arms), while the correct 70amp fuse for the Geo is neg/pos vertical, meaning the nodes are groove-side out, pointing downwards.....i had to eventually have my local Chevrolet dealership order one from the manufacturer for me.

works great now, though! ^_^

How do you adjust the rear camber on a metro geo?

The factory service manual states that rear camber is not adjustable; only the rear toe is adjustable via the control rods.

However, worn rear suspension parts can throw off the camber, including (but not limited to) worn suspension arm bushings (also called a "control arm"; the "control rod" is a separate part). Worn knuckle-to-suspension-arm bushings can also cause camber misalignment, as well as loose struts not fastened properly to the knuckle.

How do you align the timing marks on a 1996 Geo Metro?

If and only if you have the three cylinder engine. The camshaft pulley has two small notches on the outer perimeter of the pully. One of those marks has a "dimple" just below the rim of the pulley. That mark with the dimple adjacent to it must be aligned with the notch at the top of the upper rim of the valve cover. The crank gear has a "nub" a kind of round projection at the front of the gear( This nub indexes the crank belt pulley such that it cannot be installed incorrectly IE: it can only go on one way.). That projection must be aligned with a vertical pointer cast into the engine block just above the crank pulley. The pointer points straight up the centerline of the engine. If you have the valve cover off you will not have the valve cover reference. No matter the two camshaft lobes on the #1 cylinder will be pointing fore and aft when the camshaft is in the correct orientation with the crankshaft ( both valves closed). That would indicate that the #1 piston was at TDC compression stroke which you could verify by looking in the #1 cylinder plug hole and see that the piston is all the way up in the bore.

Where is the transmission dipstick located on a 2000 Geo Metro?

xmission d/stickthe dip stick for the metro is in the right front,w/the hood open right hand on the fender, lean into motor compartment ,just past the cross member that secures the radiator, looking down towards the ground,,you will see the top of the transmission @ the rear of the engine(engine is sideways) their should be a red handled wire looking loop sticking up. that is the transmission dipstick,if not look for a tube like pipe sticking up with nothing in it and that is where your dipstick should be. sometimes they find a way to viberate themselves out and fall to the ground. the oil stick is yellow handled and at the left top of the engine behind the oil filler cap. How do i check the oil on a 1991 Geo Metro?

The dip stick should be located on the passenger side close to the firewall, and on mine the handle is painted bright yellow. If it is not there, look for the metal tube on the engine where it would go. If you find it but with no dipstick, hit the junk yard or the local parts places for a new one.

How do you get the radio out of a 1990 Geo Metro?

I have done this quite a few times so I'll give you step by step instructions. #1. Remove the trim or bezel from around the radio, this just snaps in and snaps out so no problems there #2. You should see 2 to 4 screws on each side of the radio, unscrew these and keep them where you'll remember #3. remove the radio and unplug the 2 wires on the back, then install the new radio and put back in the screws and bezel. Its very easy once you get ahold of it. Good luck.

Where is ecm located 1994 Geo Metro?

It should be behind the steering wheel, under the dashboard. It's not easy to get to. If you can locate the fusebox, which is under the dashboard, close to where your left knee would be while you are seated in the driver seat, the ECM is mounted closer to the engine, up behind the fusebox. The ECM is a gold-colored box that's about the size of a CD case that has 15 or 20 CDs in it. Three bolts hold the ECM to the body of the car, and two separate wiring harnesses feed in to the ECM, and snap in to place. You should be able to see the mass of wires connecting to the ECM if you more-or-less turn yourself upside down and stick your head down there under the steering wheel and look up towards the fusebox, which should easily be seen. Once you've found the fusebox, look more towards the front of the car and you may be able to see a mass of wires all feeding into a small rectangular gold-colored box that measures about 5" x 5" x 1" deep.

Where is the pcv valve on a 95 Geo Metro?

The pcv valve on my 94 1.0L is located on the intake manifold, top, center, close to the block.

for later models however it is in a hose between the valve cover and the intake manifold; in an 11 o'clock direction from the oil filler cap and in front of the air filter housing
