To replace the water pump on a 1986 Honda CRX si it is important to have the right tools and supplies. Here are the steps to take to replace the water pump:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain the coolant from the radiator by loosening the drain plug on the radiator.
3. Disconnect the radiator hose from the water pump.
4. Remove the timing belt cover.

check for fuel pressure, should be around 50 psi. try getting someone to bang on the bottom of the gas tank while cranking, might get it going to determine if its the pump

You must remove the front bumper to gain access to the horn(s). I found that on an 84 Honda Civic 3 door, you don't have to remove the bumper to get to replace the horn. There's a small plastic plate beneath the bumper forward of the front wheel that is secured by 2 screws and is easily removed. From there, you can look up behind the bumber, and actually see the horn. You're on your way, and should be done in minutes! Good luck. My Honda only has one horn, and only one is listed in the repair manual as well. I've heard that some have two horns.

Remove the battery and take it to an Auto Parts store. They will check it and tell you if it is defective.

I have an 87 CRX that wouldnt idle & kept dying. I had to keep one foot on the gas and the other on the brake when at a stop. First mechanic I took it to told me I needed a new or rebuilt carb. Second mechanic actually fixed it! The carb's are factory sealed so you cant mess with the fuel mixture. My mechanic removed the carb & unsealed the fuel mixture adjuster and then "adjusted" it. Car runs like a dream now! and it cost less than 300 - unlike the carb rebuild which was going to cost 580

Have your mechanic look at it and see if this is the problem.

If you take off the air cleaner off, sometimes there is a vacuum line that will come off and make the car not idle while in gear and at a dead stop. My 86 had that problem and i just hooked the hose back up and it runs fine. As far as your car not idling when cold, sounds like your carb is not choking like it should. You may need to turn up the idle on the choke, and not the carb .

Sounds wild, I had a crx that I put a B16A1 into and if the engine was cold and you tried to high rev it it would lock out anything above 3000 rpms until you reset the ECU. With out the engine code this question would be hard to answer, you might try reseting the ECU by pulling the 10Amp hazard fuse on the passenger strut tower and leaving it out for 20 seconds, then see if the problem persists. But without a diagnostic trouble code it could be an ignitor in the distributor, a faulty fuel pump, or main relay. Good Luck My CRX does the exact same thing, My problem was that i had rust in my gass tank that would clog the filter in the tank. and on top of that i had a bad fuel pump. i replaced the fuel pump and rinsed out the Gas tank and i was fine. But Also an Issue in the ECU will cause that problem as explained above. hope i could help. Good Luck

It could do. DOn't let it run lean. It's very uneconomical and bad for the engine.

it has nothing to do with your motor. your problem is your syncros in your tranny are going out. when you cant engage the gear at all then the synco is totaly f'ed up. the fix..... replace or get your tranny rebuilt. im having the same problem im just swapping my dx tranny for a si tranny

: First have always a #10 and 14 wrench. Take the distributor out and have a towel or rag to clean some oil drips. Place it aside and just beneath you will see the sending unit. Sometimes it is just a matter of replacing but the gauges can be already fatigue. However the sending unit is your cheapest beginning. be careful with the plug when disconnecting.

If you can smell hot ATF it is probably leaking from somewhere and getting all over the exhaust. Look very carefully for any leaks. It could be dripping from the seal around the transmission pan or more commonly out the axel.

This answer will work for many car. It could be a few different things. Here is what you can try--

*If key won't turn, turn the steering wheel harder to left or right, even if you think it's already turned far as it will go. Once steering wheel is unlocked, the key should turn.

* make sure its all the way in park or neutral

*older cars have to have the gas pedal mashed(some new ones do too)

*bump automatic gear shift with fist while turning key

*next I'd try the battery and here is your warning*****DO NOT SMOKE AROUND A BATTERY BECAUSE THEY CAN BLOW UP, I'VE NEVER SEEN IT HAPPEN BUT IT IS POSSIBLE*****

*clean the battery terminals if there is corrosion(looks like blue sand) on them. Use baking soda and water as cleanser.

*move the battery slightly forwards and backwards.

*move/wiggle the battery cables a little.

* If the starter has gone out, you can get under the car and hit it the starter with a hammer. If it starts afterwards, then you know its the starter. The hammer solution could work just 1 - 3 times. After the 3rd time, I would not trust it to work again. It's not likely but the starter could last years after one hammer hit.
