Defense mechanisms are part of the unconscious. Therefore one cannot really control what mechanisms he/she uses.
Do immature girls give up easily when they think something is too hard?
- Yes, immature girls to full grown women can give up when they think something is too difficult in their life. For young girls this is normal because they are still maturing and have not experienced enough of life to be self assured and confident in themselves.

I missed a deadline on a project due to underestimating the time needed for a complex task. The repercussions included disappointing my team members and the project being delayed. Many things can make people mean. The environment they were brought up in; being treated poorly at a job; feeling they work hard and haven't reached their goals; perhaps they never had the chance to go to university and make something of themselves (as far as their standards to wanting to be wealthier than they are and they aren't achieving it. Feeling left out of of society in general. The human mind can be a wonderful thing, but it also can cause paranoia and other dysfunctions. I also believe that genes can play a part in the personality of a mean person. Unfortunately, some people are rotten from birth. Others acquire it as they grow older either from poor upbringing and sour attitude towards the world. I guess some people that have no patience also can be very mean, they cant tolerate other personalities.

Not all negative or questionable human behaviors can be relegated to the category of mental illness or mental health issues. While mental illnesses can lead to socially unacceptable behavior, not all such behavior is the result of mental illness. It just is not that easy to throw a blanket diagnosis or explanation over entire areas of human action. I'm sure many people evey year hope against hope that this is true. I'm not sure that it is; there would be some case-by-case analysis to see if there is evidence of an applicant's worthiness. It is a little smug to assume that "My brainpower entitles me to placement". Evidence that a person will benefit from the program, and will perform well-- those are much more valuable than an IQ measure. There are so many schools, and so many possible school-subject variations, that the predictive power of past grades is seriously compromised. One way to improve the ability to predict future academic performance would be to have a yardstick that can be used to compare students no matter where they went to school, and which is known to have some predictive power in its own right. Enter the college admissions exam, which we know is, or contains, a surrogate IQ test. Probably the best predictor of future academic performance available is an index that takes account of both past grades and academic talent (IQ, approximately).
