What does baton down the hatches mean?

It's "batten" down the hatches.

Meaning Prepare for trouble. Origin Climate change is providing plenty of opportunity to reinforce our property against bad weather. The securing of property, especially the covering with protective sheeting, is called 'battening down'. That's not how the phrase originated, although it's not far away in terms of meaning. It has a nautical origin and 'battening down' was done on ships when bad weather was expected. The earliest known citation is from John Badcock, in Domestic Amusements, 1823 (referring to a sea voyage): "The severity of the climate having compelled them to batten down and caulk their abiding place." A batten is a strip of wood. Caulking is the filling of gaps with oakum of similar, to prevent leaking. That's 'battening down' in a general sense. The first citation of the explicit use of the phrase 'batten down the hatches' is from the 1883 Chambers Journal: "Batten down the hatches - quick, men."

More information on where Sikhism began?

Nanak (1469-1538), the founder of Sikhism, was born in the village of Rāi Bhōi dī Talvaṇḍī, now called Nankana Sahib, near Lahore (in what is present-day Pakistan). His father, Mehta Kalu was a Patwari (an accountant of land revenue in the government). Nanak's mother was Tripta Devi and he had one older sister, Nanaki. His parents were Khatri Hindus of the Bedi clan. As a boy, Nanak was fascinated by religion, and his desire to explore the mysteries of life eventually led him to leave home. Sikh tradition states that at the age of thirty, Nanak went missing and was presumed to have drowned after going for one of his morning baths to a local stream called the Kali Bein. Three days later he reappeared and would give the same answer to any question posed to him: "There is no Hindu, there is no Muslim" (in Punjabi, "nā kōi hindū nā kōi musalmān"). It was from this moment that Nanak would begin to spread the teachings of what was then the beginning of Sikhism.Although the exact account of his itinerary is disputed, he is widely acknowledged to have made four major journeys, spanning thousands of kilometres. The first tour being east towards Bengal and Assam, the second south towards Tamil Nadu, the third north towards Kashmir, Ladakh and Tibet, and the final tour west towards Baghdad and Mecca.

Can you give examples of why communication is crucial for human society?

This is because communication helps us in progress of civilization and development of civilization is one thing that sets us apart from barbarians. ____________ Even barbarians have communication, actually. Society wouldn't exist without some form of communication. Grunts, hand gestures, physical actions... those are all forms of communication. Trying even to imagine a world where there was no communication is difficult. Communication is crucial because there could be no trade without communication. There could be no social, sexual, or political intercourse. There would be no literacy. There would be no books. There would be no Internet. There would be no mobile phones. There would be no telephones. Even clothing would be rudimentary, because cooperation takes communication, and without cooperation, no one has time to do all of the tasks alone that are required to make modern clothing. There would definitely be no school. All I can think is that the first humans would have died off a long, long time ago, and we wouldn't be here... without communication.

What kind of speech is it. Just make a new question saying Tennis Speech and I'll help u out : ) ---- To write a speech on tennis, you may want to consider the following topics: * Its origins * The court and types of court * The equipment * The players * Game types * The training Your audience will want to know where it came from, where it's played, how many people can play at once, what equipment to use, and what it takes to play. Mention different grips and shots, and exaggerate your movement a bit to keep the attention of the audience. You might also throw in a little spice and mention a few professional players, such as Serena and Venus Williams, Rafael Nadal, and Andre Agasi. But don't leave it there. Some people may be wondering if it's a tough game, and yeah... it takes its toll on the body.
