Mathematics is something all animals which manipulate 3D space possess. It is the ability to understand ones surroundings, make assessments and act on predictions.

For example a fly needs to, from the other side of the room, land on the side of your plate. It uses the image obtained by its many eyes to make assessments about the room. It determines the size of the plate, the distance to the plate, the area it will have to land on and so on. It then begins to fly. While in the air it determines wind speed, pressure and other related factors. The fly needs to then correct its path based on its "calculations". Obtaining the necessary information to simply fly to a plate requires many mathematical processes.

You are smarter than a fly. You are AWARE of your mathematical ability. You consciously choose to do maths and you apply it to different problems.

My point is that, no ONE person discovered mathematics, it was with us all along as a necessary skill required to successfully achieve day to day goals (another example "if the spear is this heavy and the animal is that far away then i must throw so hard"). Although no one person discovered maths many people contributed to it and are still finding new way of explaining the wonders of our universe.

I think maybe for one because there are more babies available versus more older children here and also I think it is easier to adopt in other countries than it is here.

The pastoralization of housework refers primarily to antebellum American women who, in an effort to distinguish themselves from mill girls and provide an invaluable service to their household, embraced housework. It is significant in the history of women because the national economy was becoming more and more industrialized at this time and women's role was becoming more and more diminished - in an economic sense. The traditional subsistence economy was going away. No longer could a monetary value be attached to the family economy of a farm. Men (and women) were finding employment outside of the home and these new jobs became the primary source of income. This left the housework as a job without monetary value and largely on the shoulders of the women.

Settlers began Western expansion because there was limitless amounts of cheap, undeveloped land. Also, travel to the West was made easier by various canal systems and railroads.

While some may view old-world curtesies as obsolete and useless, I like to see the bigger picture. In bygone days when females were treated as the 'fairer' sex, they were in some ways put on a pedestal. This pedestal-sitting allowed a certain respect to the female half of the species. Men knew that while in the presence of a lady they could not curse, spit or scratch themselves. They held doors, umbrellas and heavy packages. They stood until all females were seated first, they stood when they entered or left a room. They tipped their hats to every lady they encountered. Fathers protected their daughters from sexual compromise and public scandal. Husbands protected their wives from other men's inappropriate advances.

The bottom line is respect. Women were respected. Of course we can't go back to those days. Women, although not entirely equal yet, can now hold public office and hold real estate in their own name. Marraige and teaching school are no longer the only options women. We can now vote during presidential elections, or run for president. But something has been lost. I can tell you from personal experience, if you continue to extend these old-fashion curtesies toward the female population, you will be viewed as a prince amoung frogs. You will be noticed and remembered. It is a wonderful way to impress the ladies. Remember that everybody loves to be treated well and with respect.

The effects of even the largest nuclear devices and the most virulent and persistent chemical weapons are containable and finite. That is, with relatively simple efforts, the effects of the crisis can be managed and the casualty rates will fall at a predictable rate with time after the weapon is used.

Biological weapons attacks are not manageable in this way. Bio-weapons attacks can cause long-term, unmanageable outbreaks, with casualty rates growing exponentially or by orders of magnitude as time passes from the attack. The resulting death rates from an attack are potentially so high that a properly designed weapon, properly deployed, could produce casualty rates so staggeringly high that it could kill a substantial proportion of the global population, and remain a persistent high level cause of death for centuries to follow.

To put it in perspective, the Hiroshima bomb killed between 90,000 and 166,000 people, most of whom died instantly or within a few hours or days of the attack; long term casualties from cancer due to radiation exposure were less than 600.

In WW1 (the only major war where chemical weapons were used), fewer than 90,000 men were killed by poison gas throughout the entire course of the war. This amounts to less than 3% of battlefield casualties.

Spanish influenza on the other, a naturally occurring and non-weaponized disease, killed an incredible 50 million people in (3% of the global population at the time and more than 3 times the entire casualty number of WW1) in less than a year and sickened another 500 million (1/3 of the global population at the time- a number so massive that, to put in perspective, is nearly double the current population of the United States).

Smallpox, which was eradicated in 1979, killed between 300-500 million people world-wide in the 20th Century alone (a number so astoundingly, catastrophically high that the only way to put it in perspective is to say that if you added every death from war, genocide, natural disasters, homicide and tobacco use in the entire 20th century the number wold be approximately 200 million. An even better frame of reference is that approximately 510 million people died worldwide in the entire decade of the 1990's from ALL CAUSES COMBINED). It is fair to say, in fact, that previous to 1979 smallpox was the leading cause of death in all of human history.

That, in the end, is why bio-weapons are so worrisome. You're talking about unleashing scourges on the population of the planet that cannot be controlled, are utterly devastating, and can produce casualty numbers that stagger the imagination.
