The quantities of this products is weighed carefully considering the capacity of their equipment that will handel the mixture. This equipment is called a "mill" and consists of two steel rollers of about three feet diameter by ten feet length (give or take), the rollers are heated by steam, encased in an open pan. Here the operator stands in front of the rollers and scoops the mixture with a small shovel and sprinkels it on top of the rollers which by now are turning. The pressure and heat while squeezing and turning the powdery mixed, melt it and after a while it becomes a fused sheet of the product that after turning and churning gets wrapped about the rollers. When this happens, the operator cuts the sheet with a small knife several times bringing the material from one end to the other of the rollers in order to get it all well mixed. When the consistency of the material is even the operator proceeds to extract the material from the mill by cutting one uninterrupted strip of rubber.
What happens after is this rubber is placed into molds where the steel belt clips are presed into the rubber.
Later on, precise lengths of the material are cut and then inserted into other moulds where by heat and pressure the rubber is given the shape and pattern of the tire.
I hope this will give the idea of how tires are made.
