How can you tell if your husband has a gambling problem?
It becomes a problem if he ever raises a hand to you or anyone in your family. If he excessively yells when he is drunk then that to can become a sign. If you ever feel threatened please call someone for help. Contact someone at AA or Alanon. Alanon is actually more appropriate for someone who is married to an alcoholic. They will be able to give you far more valuable information than will be available here. The reality is, if his drinking is causing a problem, he has a problem. If it's interfering with his work, his relationship with his family or in any other way causing problems, he's drinking too much. If he ever feels that he NEEDS a drink, it's a problem. If he EVER drives after having more than one beer or small glass of wine, it's a problem. If he ever makes excuses for his drinking, it's a problem. If he ever becomes agressive, abusive or violent when he's drinking, he has a problem. If you think it is a problem it probably is. Is he aggressive towards you and others.? Is it affecting his work? Are you short of money becasue of it? Have you suggested it is a problem and he is denying it? Any these should set the alarm bells ringing.

(06/13/09) Why would you want to?
It is a statistical fact that relationships involving people who co-habitat and/or get married prior to age 24 have an 85% failure rate. Biologically, this is when females reach full mature on the physical, emotional, and hormonal levels. At this point, a woman is fully prepared to have and handle children, as well as a male that is still not fully mature.
Males don't reach full physical and hormonal maturity until age 30. This is also when they reach their peak emotional maturity, but not to the point of being fully independent. Half of the male emotional health comes from a woman. The biochemical frequency range of the male brain adjusts itself to match that of the female, developing an emotional symbiotic relationship.
Couples who begin cohabiting and/or get married prior to age 24 can find themselves drawing away from each other as each reaches full maturity. Their whole view of the world, and each other, changes. This doesn't happen to all couples, but clearly it is a factor in most relationship breakdowns.
Bipolar disorder affects approximately 5.7 million American adults, or about 2.6 percent of the U.S. population age 18 and older in a given year.

Why do alcoholics enjoy hurting their loved ones?
It's not the alcoholic that enjoys hurting their loved ones, it's the alcohol itself. This is because alcohol doesn't let you think clearly. It blurs their senses, not allowing them to realize what they have done until they become sober. If there is an alcoholic in your life that is hurting you or someone you know in anyway, encourage that person to go to an alcoholics support group, if they are not already. If possible, start to remove bottles or containers of alcoholic beverages from the alcoholic's home. Don't remove too many at once; this my result in someone getting hurt. Try sitting down with them once they are no longer under the influence, and explain why what they did was hurtful to others, and how it made that person or those people feel. Give them something to think about, something to mull over. This may seem very hard to do, but you can do more than you think. Get others involved, too. Together, you can make a humongous difference. Good luck!
