How do you change a Mazda 323F starter motor?

Not certain of model 323F; my standard 323 has the 1.6 L OHC engine and you can change the starter motor as follows:

The starter motor is located on the back side of the engine (closest to the firewall) underneath the fuel injection/intake manifold.

To replace it, first disconnect the battery, then remove the main power cable (heavy wire) and the start wire (light wire). Next remove the two bolts for the intake manifold support bracket and remove bracket. Remove one bolt on starter rear support bracket and 3 bellhousing flange bolts (two accessible from starter side, on accessible from bellhousing side). the starter is now free and can be taken out form the passenger's side (LHD).

Why can't you get your drum to go back on after replacing rear shoes on your 98 Mazda 626?

The replacement shoes should be significantly larger than the warn units removed. The automatic adjuster has turned the star wheel adjuster open to compensate for that wear. Turn the star wheel closed and install between the shoes and the drum should go on. You will also need to adjust the brakes using a brake spoon through the hole on the rear of the backing plate after the drum is replaced.

What is the spark plug gap for a 91 mr2 turbo?

How do you remove a brake drum?

On my '88 323, you have to remove and discard the axle spindle nut. Then you can use a brass hammer to help break the drum loose. It should pull right off once you break the dirt and/or rust "seal". Make sure you get a new spindle nut first ($3-5 at a discount parts store), you have to "spike" the nut after it's snugged up to hold it in place, and you can NOT safely reuse the old one.

Where is the thermostat located on a 1981 Mazda 323?

It is at the lower end of the top radiator hose within the water outlet on the motor.

How do you replace the fuel filter on your 1989 Mazda 323?

I assume you are refering to the firewall mounted high pressure filter. It is secured to the firewall via a bracket with two 6 mm studs. Use a 10mm socket to free the bracket from the firewall. Loosen the pinch bolt in the bracket. Disconnect the top and bottom hoses (I discarded the factory pinch type hose clamps and replaced them with worm gear type). It helps to wrap a rag around the bottom hose as the fuel may still be under pressure and will spray out. Please note that in 1989 Mazda had two styles of filters, you want the type with the to hose barb at 90 degreees to the filter body (G-K part number OF9046). Install the new filter into the bracket (note there is a raised rib on the filter body which 'keys' to a slot in the bracket). Tighten the pinch bolt just enough so the filter doesn't move up and down. Reconnect the top and bottom hoses and re-attach the bracket to the firewall. I did check in my factroy shop manual and there is a low pressure filter as part of the in-tank fuel pump and sender assembly. There was no listed procedure for replacing the low pressure filter, only a procedure to remove the pump/filter/sender assembly as follows: 1. Remove the rear seat bottom cushion 2. Disconnect the fuel pump connector 3. Remove the fuel pump cover (galvanized metal plate approximately 6" X 6") 4. Disconnect the main fuel and return hoses and plug them to prevent leakage. 5. Remove the fuel pump and tank gauge assembly. Cheers Malcolm

What causes a 1987 Mazda 323 to keep turning over in the on position when the starter and ignition switch have been replaced?

I assume that you mean the ignition OFF position. Or do you mean the starter moter keeps turning in the ON position rather than just the START position. This may be a possible wiring fault. If the wires became overheated and melted through the insualtion, the START bare wire may be touching the IGN/ON bare wire. Cheers Malcolm

How do you Replace water pump 1988 323 Mazda?

This is a fairly simple job, although you should allow 4 hours to do it. You will need to drain the cooling system, remove the alternator and power steering belts; remove the water pump pulley and the timing covers. Loosen the timing belt tensioner and then remove the timing belt after you have rotated the engine so that the timing marks on the camshaft pulley align with the marks on the head.

Remove the radiator hose form the water pump, and then remove the water pump retaining bolts. Clean the gasket surface thoroughly and use a new gasket with gasket sealant (not Silicone) when replacing the water pump. I recommend replacing the lower radiator hose if it appears swollen or soft.

Good Luck

What is the secret to changing the rear brake pads on a 91 Mazda 323 Seems like the caliper cylinder won't retract far enough to slide the new pads in Is there a trick?

You need to open bleeder and compress the piston back with a large channelock pliers/ C-clamp and use some force. Probably some corrision in bore causing the piston to hang up. Good luck.

AnswerThis is not quite right. On mine, anyway, there is a 14mm hex-head close to the 14mm hex-head that retains the handbrake cable on the back of the caliper. You need to remove this 14mm hex head, not the one that holds on the cable, and inside is an adjuster with an Allen head-- 6mm I think. You need to back this out as far as it will go. There is NO NEED to use force or unscrew the bleed nipple. You'll have to readjaust the handbrake later either by the time-honoured method or screwing in the little adjuster. AnswerThe above procedure is the same for a Mazda MX5 mark 2 (1.6). The only difference is that the Allen screw behind the 14mm hex-head is 4mm. AnswerThe best way is to use the Allen key adjuster to retract the cylinder , no force necessary , no bleeding etc . Its easy that way AnswerIt could also be possible that the piston needs to be rotated clockwise to allow it retract. This is due to the self adjusters. This can be done with the CORRECT tool ( about £20) or with a pair of water pump pliers ( not the best, but when noting else will do!). AnswerCaliper pistons on rear disc brakes rotate to retract. If you use any tool to press them back in as you would on from disc brakes, you will damage the calipers and possibly the tool.

What does the HOLD button on the side of the shifter do?

It allows the transmission to be HELD in one gear, longer than normal. Once you release the HOLD button the trans will shift normally. A HOLD button, keeps the transmission either in a gear or in a range of gears, according to a moderately complicated algorithm which "lets you shift for yourself."

How do to replace rear wheel bearings 1988 Mazda 323?

Don't bet the farm on my answer here. And don't take this verbatim.

I'm having an issue with mine as well. When I asked around I was told that in this particular model car has something a little different on it. The spindle is left threaded, and to even remove the bearing to get it fixed, it requires a left threaded disposable nut for the spindle after replacement. Unfortunately since this was the only model they used reversed threading on. They don't manufacture those nuts anymore. And since they are disposable, if you try to get one off of another car. It will just break. In fact they were designed to break when removed (Hence "Disposable"). So the only option I was told I have was to have a whole new spindle welded on with the normal threading. Then move on to the bearing, brakes, ect. (My issue is on the rear driver side)
