There might be bypass kits available on the internet for your car depending on which security system you have. The only other option would probably be to replace the security system itself.

an air leak in your intake will cause the engine to rattle. Protege's intake hoses are prone to cracking.

The belt you have to first remove is the power steering pump belt. Loosen the clamp bolt, then the adjusting screw on the power steering pump until the belt is slack enough to remove from the pulleys. If you have air conditioning, you will also need to remove that belt too, by the same method on the A/C compressor. You can now loosen the clamp bolt (12 mm) from the alternator as well as the retaining bolt (14 mm) on the alternator. Once loosen, swing the alternator towards the engine block and remove the belt from the pulleys. Cheers Malcolm

Now, my wife's Protege, which I think is a 2000 has the following wires, which I am

reverse engineering:

BLK = GROUND

BLU/RED = BATT

PINK/BLK = IGN ACC

GRN/BLK = PANEL LITE CTRL

YEL = DIMMING

BLK/RED = DOOR LH +

BLK/WHT = DOOR LH -

RED = DOOR RH +

WHT = DOOR RH -

BRN = REAR LH -

BRN/WHT = REAR LH +

GRN = REAR RH -

GRN/YEL = RER RH +

I am still trying to confirm speaker polarity.

All these wire colors should be verified with a volatege/ohm meter prior to

connecting the unit, otherwise you risk letting out the majik smoke upon

which all electronics rely upon.

Replace the horn relay.

Also look at the foam padding in the steering wheel,it may be worn out.

My 99 escort had a stuck horn...pull out the foam switch in front of the air bag, move it around a little, clean the contacts, then test it with a multimeter to make sure it un-stuck itself.

This is a major repair that is too complicated to be discussed here in this space. You can buy a Chilton's repair manual if you wish to tackle this yourself but know that it takes knowledge and the proper tools to make this repair. This is not a repair for a novice.

Inside the fuse box under the hood in the front on the driver's side.

Remove the high mount brake light retaining screws from your Mazda Protg. Remove the high mount brake light wiring harness. Reverse the process to install your new high-mount brake light.

The DayTime Running Light relay box is located at the drivers Kick Panel. It is a Box that is about 5" wide by 1.5" thick by 3" high. It has two sets of wired plugs in it. One plug has about 8 wires in it that are small gauge and the other has about 6 that are a heavier gauge.

In the USA, the Protege was available as a DX, LX, or ES. The DX and LX have the 1.5L engine, and the ES has the 1.8L. In Canada, there was only the SE and LX. The SE had the DX and LX drivetrain, that is to say the 1.5L engine mated to either an automatic, or 5-speed manual transmission. The was the equivalent of the American ES model. The quickest way to identify a car packing the 1.8L engine, without popping the hood is to take a peek under the rear. the factory installs a speaker harness which you can buy from your local audio/video shop and solder the neg- and pos+ on the speaker and just connect them. or you can cut the speaker harness off and solder straight the two neg and pos right on the speaker ans there ya go.. but if you have manual windows you'll have to remove the slip to get in the door and the rear deck just snaps off if you move ur hand along it

1993-1996 Ford Probe, Mazda 626, Mx6, and 1998-2003 Protege all share the basic FS block (2.0L DOHC). the electronics, manifolds, fuel delivery, and ignition may have differences.

More than likely there is an access panel either under the rear seat or behind the rear seat in the trunk that you remove to gain access to the fuel pump. If there is no access panel you will have to drop the fuel tank.

Remove both heater hoses from inlet & outlet of heater core. Connect these hoses together.

If you have 100,000 miles or more it is time to change it or get it checked by a mechanic. I have a Mazda protege 2000 and it is on the left side of the engine by my belts. I had a leak near there and the mechanic took off the cap and my belt needed replacement. If your belt breaks on you it could damage your engine and cost more in the long run. Be safe and get it checked out. there is no way of telling but by looking at it

I disabled the alarm by removing the piezo electric buzzer located inside the fuse box near the clutch lever. * on my '93 I just pulled the fuse. It is so annoying. - TWO780a

According to my brother (who is a mechanic), The stock stereo in the protege requires radio removal tools (2 sets) to remove -- you can get them at just about any parts store. Just carefully remove the molding around the radio, insert the tools all the way and then pull them outward to release the clips. The radio should just slide out.
