When you say "exhaust vents in your ceiling" I assume you are referriong to the heating and AC vents inside your house and not the roof vent on the outside used to vent the attic. It is most likely that the duct work was ran in the ceiling for ease of installtion or the house may be built on a slab and they did not want to run the duct work through the slab.

Unless the "exaust gasket" doubles as a intake/coolant path gasket I don't believe that is your problem. Take the car to a reputable shop for a coolant system pressure and/or dye check. Good luck!

Typically, white smoke is just water vapor. Water vapor is normal when the engine is cold. Water is produced when gasoline is burned. Gasoline is a chemical compound called a hydrocarbon and burning of hydrocarbons produce water (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2). When the exhaust line is cold, such as a cold morning, the exhaust is cooled quite a bit by the time it comes out the tailpipe, and the cooled water vapor in the exhaust turns to white "smoke" much the same as your breath is visible when it's cold out.
If your engine is loosing coolant when it idles, make sure the engine cooling fan is operating properly. If the engine isn't cooling properly when it's idling, the radiator will boil over and you'll loose coolant. Once you start moving, air will move over the radiator and the coolant will not boil over.

Good Answer: You most likely had a blown head gasket. Do No Run The Car. if you arent compentent with doing it ytour self take it somewere. this is a complex job to fix. it it moslt likely due to the factory mistake of under tourquing the head. have the head inspected and milled flat. get new studs OEM or ARP and clean everything drain oil and coolant and reassemble with a new gasket set ( i used an HKS stainless gasket, this requires having the block milled as well) re assemble the motor very carefully and make sure it is in time. torqe the head in the correct sequence to at least 70 on OEM replacemtn studs or at least 80 on ARP studs and make sure you fill the oil and coolant. when everything is back together be sure to let the car start up and run for a few minutes. change the oil and coolant to flush out the old stuff. and refill. coolant in your crank or rod bearing will ruin your motor VERY quickly. and if you decide to take on the project your self take your time you will regret it if you don't.
Head gasket could need to be replaced. When the head is removed you can check for warpage and cracks, but I would go with the head gasket first. When the head gasket blows, fuel is pushed into your coolant and coolant into your cylinder....Fuel in the coolant causes over heating, coolant or water in your cylinder causes white smoke to come out of the exhaust. Cracked head is un likely but a blown head gasket is definite.

A cat back system is simply all exhaust system components like mufflers or pipes which are attached 'after' or 'back' of the catalytic converter. Here is the twist... it is quite possible for a cat back system to also be a true dual exhaust system if there are 2 separate catalytic converters, each with its own exhaust system components behind it. Then a cat back system in this particular instance, would still include the components being replaced 'after' the cats. The differences arise when there is a single catalytic converter but with split or dual exhaust components after it. From behind the car, the dual exhaust pipes make it look like the car has dual exhaust, but in actual fact it only has one pipe leading to the cat converter and then has 2 sets of exhaust components 'after' it. Again, any cat back system could be either single pipe and component or dual pipes and components. Most cat back systems were created to allow use of the legally mandated cat converter while freeing up exhaust flow after the converter.

- Cat-back is simply a strait pipe from the cat back. The difference is a dual exhaust can still have mufflers on the pipes.
- Cat-back means whatever exhaust that is dual starts at the cat. Dual starts at the manifolds and duals all the way back. You could have cats in duals if you wished and spent the big bucks.
- Cat back" exhaust is all the pipe and muffler(s) from your catalytic converter to the tailpipe. it is a must in emissions legal vehicles to avois a ticket if your replacing your factory exhaust. however "true duals" are very cheap and are nothing more than a pipe from the manafold or header, to the tailpipe, no mufflers or cats.

is there a sweet smell? Does the coolant level drop in the overflow tank and/or the radiator? if so, you might be looking at a bad head gasket. if there is slight white smoke(usually condensation) and no loss of coolant, then it is normal. once the engine (and exhaust system) gets hot, there should be no more smoke.
There could be any number of causes, depending on the vehicle. Sometimes they just want you to take the car in for service to have the oil changed. Other times it could be the MAP sensor, oxygen sensor or some other intermittent problem. Get a code reader for your vehicle and plug it in during that 2 day period when the light comes on. Follow the instructions in the code reader manual to find out what's going on. The internal computer knows what it thinks is going on and is more than willing to tell you if you get and use a code reader. I had this problem and it was my EGR valve which is about a $65.00 part if you have a mechanic friend that can help you. We also changed my gas cap, which did not work by the way.
