If a person recently changed the speed sensor in a 1990 Dodge B-250 Van and the trip meter and odometer do not work, there could be a fuse that needs to be replaced. The computer might also have to be reset to allow for the odometer and trip meter to work.
Why would a 2000 Lincoln Navigator odometer go off and on?
These are completely electronic. You may have a loose wire.
How do you fix the speedoometer and odometer on a 1973 Super Beetle?
Did you check to make sure the speedo cable isn't broken. Disconnect both ends and twist the inner cable and look at the other end to see if it moves. It should move easily.
You can take a short cut and just disconnect the speedo end and have someone rotate the left wheel and you should be able to see the inner cable rotate.
The one on the left wheel is attached to the grease/bearing cover with a c-clip. Remove the c-clip then take the cover off (so you can reattach it) and it will just pull out of the hole on the axle side. The grease/bearing cover actually turns the cable as the end of the cable is square to fit in the cover hole that is square. Sometimes the hole will round out and the cable won't rotate with the cover.
Before I answer this question let me start by saying the bulb is not available from dealer or any auto parts store or any ordinary retail light store such as Radio Shack. I had to improvise by finding a bulb that fit in the bulb holder with wire leads that would work in a 12volt system. The bulb I used was from a surplus store with no identifying marks so I don't have part number. The dealer says they send out the dashes for rebuild units. So be prepared to search for a bulb.
The first step disconnect the battery then next remove the dashboard you will find most the screws are torx screws and two 10mm bolts located thru a opening in the glovebox.Once you remove the dashboard cover you will see the 2 wire connectors that connect to instrument cluster. Unplug the connectors then remove the torx screws that hold the fascia to the cluster. Then pull gently to remove fascia to gain access to instrument cluster. Remove the torx screws that hold the cluster and lift cluster out of dash panel. On back of cluster you will see a cover that is paper on one side and metal film on other side. Remove and you will see a few bulb sockets that look like to remove you turn them by hand. Well it is none of these bulbs you want. The bulb you want is removed with a small screw driver. the bulb has a slot form in the back for a flat blade screw driver. That is your bulb. Now you have to find a bulb that you can modify to fit that holder. When you get this far you will have a view of what I am talking about. Good Luck P.S. To install reverse removal procedures.
A 12 volt white mini Christmas light will work, although I am not sure how long it will last.
you need a new instrument cluster about $350 same happened to mine.
Was your odometer rolled back?
Nope, I'm 54 and admit it. ; )
Seriously though:
1st the engine computer on modern cars will tell you the mileage if it is scanned by a dealer. So if the dash is swapped for a low mileage one you can tell.
2nd Each time a car is sold the mileage is documented by law so there are records.
3rd. It is almost impossible to change mileage anymore so it is unlikely
What does the word deck mean on odometer reading for a 07 Chrysler Sebring Convertible JXI?
Either the trunk is open, or the trunk ajar switch has failed.
How do you fix a loud whining noise from the odometer on a 1985 Chevy S-10 4WD?
Try checking the speedomoeter cable - Just fixed mine!
1) Get a chilton's or similar repair manual
2) Take the necessary dash components and remover the instrument cluster
3) There will be a few attachments in the back of the instrument cluster. Remove the speedometer cable (undo the locking tab), speed sensor (there is a screw), and gear shift indicator (there is a chip to the column shift)
4) check the speedometer gauge by putting a pencil or somthing into the socket and spinning it. If it binds and makes noise, replace it (good luck finding). If it's good, pull the cable out (wacth out, you dont's stain the interior)
5) If it looks good, pull the cable out and clean it with brake cleaner and a rag. You may want to disconnect the cable housing from the transmission so you can shoot the brake cleaner in the cable housing.
6) Take the clean cable and grease it by placing grease in your had and rubbing it on the cable, then stick the cable back in the housing. Grease about 3/4 of the cable. Try not to over-grease the cable.
7) put everthing back. If any of the gauges don't work, check the electronic connector to make sure there is good contact.
My speedometer on a 03 Hyundai Tiburon isn't work how do you fix it?
this might work but it might not. what i did was while connected, i removed the clear plastic on the cluster. Drive the car and move the needle around. Or you see one of those speed checking machines the police put outside drive near one and update your needle to the speed its going.
A speedometer measures the speed a vehicle is traveling in miles per hour (MPG) or kilometers per hour (KPH).
Is it possible to change the odometer reading in a 1999 Toyota 4Runner from kms to miles?
You would need to change the whole Speedometer and you also need to replace the gear in the transmission as while since 1 mile = 1.609 344 kilometers. Good Luck and Remember.

How do you repair the odometer on a 1993 Ford Thunderbird V8 that quit working?
the only way I know how to fix this is to replace the dash panel with a different one. Be sure to check local laws as this may not be legal.
I also had this problem with my 1994 Thunderbird - I replaced the Speedometer cluster twice and the Vehicle Speed Sensor. I finally found a wed site that sells Odometer Repair Kits and with instuction that included pictures I fix My Odometer/Trip. The web site that sells these repair kits is www.supercoupeperformance.com
You can either listen to the guy above that has no idea or you can simply replace the odometer gear. It will cost up to $30 to replace. They are made of plastic. If you stop using the trip odometer this will not happen again. Don't buy the overpriced repair kit for the job. It will run you about $50. $30 for the gears and $20 for the directions. If you are here to fix it yourself you should be able to figure it out yourself. If you can't you should use an ASE certified mechanic.
Good Luck!
How do you replace the light bulb for the odometer on a 1998 Saturn SW1?
Remove the screws and clips on the dashboard. tilt the lower steering column carefully an slide out the dash unit. You should be able to see a set of bulbs and the one for the odometer is at the center. Remove and replace with a new one.
If the odometer has failed, does the speedometer still work? They are both driven by a cable which spins. If the speedometer is still working, than the odometer has jammed. Probably a dealer fix.
Depends.
If you've changed the gearing, or the wheel size, odometer correction is a small adjustment to make the odo read right again after the changes.
If you're selling/buying a used car, odo correction can mean that the odo has been turned back in order to make the car look less used, to get a better price from it.
What is the problem when the odometer and speedometer dont work?
Well both of those are from sensors in the wheels so maybe make sure you are using the correct wheels.
What should the Odometer read on a new car?
Well, it's hard to say something exact, most cars end up being shuttled some distances under their own power. Some may even be transferred from one dealer to another under own power. Less than 3 miles would be rare, even on a brand new car, more than 100 would be a bit strange as well.
How do you turn back an odometer on a Ford Ranger 2002?
It is! against the law in ALL 50 states to turn an odometer back, or reset it in anyway.
How do you fix the odometer and radio lights in a 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue?
Sounds like a blown fuse?
I have a same problem. Answer: I had the same problem and it is digital and not a cable. bad news is that it is in the transmission and that's what fixed mine.
There's a lot of things that can make a tach not work. Wiring, bad sensor, computer problem. But unless a check engine light is on, then the computer is probably still getting the signal of rpm's. It can wait until you can get it fixed without any added problems. If it's a standard tranny, just make sure you don't red line it.
The instrument panel uses a series of simple stepper motors to drive the gauges. There have been many problems reported in various 200x GM vehicles and there are upgrade motors that can be installed if you're handy with a soldering iron. The motors are rather cheap at $10 each (versus a new $450 factory cluster). Some places offer swaps or will repair yours. Check eBay (of all places) for parts and/or service folks.
How do you replace the odometer cable in your 1997 ford explorer?
According to my Haynes repair manual, 1996 and later models do not use a conventional speedometer cable. They use an electronic speedometer and a vehicle speed sensor (VSS)
