Oxygen Sensor There are actually (4) O2 sensors on your truck. If you look inside the wheel wells behind the fender liner, right about where the frame is one O2 sensor, the other is underneath the truck about half way back in relation to the transmission. If you see where the exhaust joints together, you went about 6" too far.

When you start looking at the O2 sensors, they are normally numbered something like "Bank 1 Sensor 1" Bank 1 is on the passenger side; Bank 2 is on the driver's side. Sensor 1 is the upstream sensor (near the frame, between the block and the cat) and Sensor 2 is near the Y-pipe (downstream of the cat).

Normally it is the upstream sensors (sensor 1) that go first. They see the harshest conditions. You will need; Oxygen Sensor Socket Anti-Seized Penetrating Oil Sometimes it will take 15 minutes or take a few hours it depends on your luck…

Depending on which engine you have, there are several O2 sensors on the vehicle and they are all threaded into the exhaust at various points.

I just copied this from a later post; you have to find out which o2 sensor you need first. when you find out which sensor by getting the code with an obdII scanner. it will say o2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 or o2 sensor bank 1 sensor 2 (#1 is in the exhaust pipe closest to the header or exhaust manifold assy, #2 is also in the exhaust pipe but is after the catalytic converter) buy the correct part based on the code. replacing it once found is simple. remove the 2 12mm nuts that hold it in, slide it out of the pipe, remove the old gasket, and unplug the sensor from the harness. then replace the gasket, put the new sensor in where the old one came out, install and tighten the nuts, then plug it in. clear the codes with the scantool or by removing the negative battery terminal for a minute or so then replacing it, and you're all set

With my VW Polo 2000 I have similar behaviour. In my case from time to time the orange lamp "Check" and some times "EPC" start lighting. I cannot see neither hear any engine malfunction. After several times this happened, I found out a solution. It seems that after I open and close the engine lid, both lamp reset and the light disapear.

You have 4 ....Yes 4. The exhaust is the same for both sides.

The oxygen sensor measures the amount of or lack of oxygen in the burnt exhaust exiting the engine in the exhaust pipe. It will then send a voltage signal to the vehicle computer. The computer uses that signal to control the fuel metering coming into the engine to try and keep the air/fuel ratio at 14.7 parts air to 1 part fuel. This is for emissions and economy reasons.

That would be the sensor after the catalytic converter.

Accordingly the sensor wire colors for Toyota O2 sensors (from the sensor to the plug) would be as follows

Blue = Sensor +

White = Sensor -

Black = Heater

Black = Heater

Check if the vehicle is OBD-1, or OBD-2. If it's OBD-1, there will be 2 Oxygen sensors, one in front of the catalytic converter, and one at the rear of it. If it is OBD-2, there will be four sensors. There will be three on the "Y" pipe from the manifolds, and one before and after the cat.

It should be on the Y pipe near the out put end.

2 if it has the 2.2 L engine, 3 if it has the 4.3 L engine.

There are four. One before and one after the catalyst converter on each side of the engine.

Detach the 2 clips on each side of it and then remove it.

They are screewed into the exhaust pipes. There will not be any after the muffler. You have 4 on that year and there about 3 to 4 inches long with an electric wire coming out of them.

All O2 sensors are mounted in the exhaust system. There will ususally be one before the catalytic converter and one or two after the catalytic converter. All O2 sensors are mounted in the exhaust system. They look like spark plugs with wires on the back in the exhaust. There will ususally be one before the catalytic converter and one or two after the catalytic converter.

I'm a little puzzled by the wording of the question. I suspect that whoever told you this didn't explain your problem right, or maybe they didn't know whta they were talking about to begin with. The reason is that you are asking about two completely unconnected and unrelated systems. There is no such thing as an "evaporative system oxygen sensor." The evaporative system and the oxygen sensors are two separate systems that have no relationship to each other and there is no DTC that relates to a combination of both under the same diagnostic failure. I suggest you start over with finding out what is wrong with your car. Which is it? The evap system? Or the oxygen sensors? Somebody needs to properly diagnose your vehicle and then PROPERLY explain to you what is wrong. Assuming that this individual knows what they are talking about, they should also be able to give you a ballpark figure of what it will take dollarwise to get it fixed.

The Sensor is located right next to where the transmission meets with the engine under the passenger side floor board.
