Why study social science?

Here are some reasons to study social studies:

  • ANYTHING you study makes you smarter!
  • We need to know what happened in the past so we don't keep making the same mistakes over and over
  • We need to know what other cultures are like so that we are not so afraid and prejudiced against them
  • We need to know how other people do things because sometimes their ways work better than ours
  • We need to know about the really bad things that happened in our past, like the World Wars and the Holocaust, because we NEVER want those things to happen again!

You know what, that is a very good question. We dont NEED to learn about the past.

it cant help us for any thing in life. School is a terribal thing. they force kids to study

social studies. What ues is there for us to NEED TO learn about social studies?

i dont see no ues. whats the ues learning about the past? no ues.

Unfortunately, this person does not see the use of school in the first place. Proper grammar and spelling seem beyond him. Social studies teaches us not to make the same mistakes our forefathers made. It also teaches us that we have to learn to get along with each other or all of us die. When one group is discriminated against, we all lose. People like Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr, Hitler, Churchill, Roosevelt, and many others give us guides about what to do and what not to do in our social environment.

will because you have to know how we got molded into this country and how we became to know important dates of thegreat past to learn early civilizations and about how something even cease to exist not evolution I mean like Egypt the seven wonders of the world you ancestors so yes it can be a bore but keep in mind this is hoe we were built.
People study social studies to learn about their past and present times. You learn about mistakes and inventions made in history. You get to learn more about your own past, race, ethnicity, and more. History is great to learn because you learn of people who lived before you and your time period.
Unless a person is going to live in SOLITUDE; he'll NEED to "know & learn" HOW TO LIVE WITH OTHER PEOPLE; Society.
Social Studies helps you learn about a place, location, region, human/environmental interactions, and movements.
most universities do not accept students, if they do not have at least one humanities subject
You study social studies so you can learn the laws and past of your country.

But you shouldn't even ask this question because social studies is fun and it is just like listnening to a story.
Social studies is important because people think that we need to know how our ancestors screwed up the world and how other people tried to fix it but all they did was make it worse and people say that social studies is important because we need to know the amazing things people did before our time. Then why are people always saying live in the now not in the past, it makes no sense now does it.

What is the average age for a 4 year old?

If you take a random sample of kids who are 4 and you record their ages with accuracy (to the nearest day or some reasonable fraction of a year), I think the average age would turn out to be very close to 4.5 years. You would hit a wide range of ages from 4 years and zero days all the way to 4 years and 364 days. The true average might not be exactly 4.5 years; it may depend on things like differing mortality rates at one end of the year or the other. Age is one of those things that you can record and use as a discrete variable or as a continuous variable. It is in fact continuous. If you are studying a narrow age range, particularly of children, thinking of age as continuous is probably useful. Things can change so quickly for children. On the other hand, if you are looking at age in the context of a national census, then knowing that John Doe is 61.7 years old and that Jane Doe is 2.1 years old might be more detail than you need given your purpose. For example, would anyone think that people who are 61.7 years old will compare with Jane's group significantly differently from people who are 61.8 years old? In fact in that case you may even make things easier by grouping individuals into categories with ranges of 5 or 10 years without losing the meaning of your comparisons. It depends on your hypothesis, the degree of detail that you expect to find in your analysis, and on what successful or unsuccessful techniques others have used.

Why is unemployment a social problem?

"In my opinion, juvenile delinquency is purely a social disease."

"Hey, I got a social disease!"

- West Side Story

It's a social problem because it's a problem that involves society. There's not really any deep truth here, it's pretty straightforward.

What factors affect the population growth in a developed country?

In an MEDC (more economically developed country) there are quite a few things that affect population growth. For example, more and more women have careers which means that they have children later in life which leads to less children/ woman. Because health care is very developed, infant mortality rates are low which means that people have less children because the likelihood of them surviving is much greater. However, this factor is more important in an LEDC (less economically developed country) because children are heavily relied upon to provide and income to support the parents in old age. Also, education and contraception plays an important part in the population growth of a country because in LEDC's there is little family planning available and little or no access to contraception.

In some MEDC's (for example Italy) the birth rate is crtically low and the population is decreasing in size. This is mainly due towards changing attitudes towards raising children. Instead of having as many children as parents afford, they chose to raise only one child and give it the best opportunities that they can (i.e. two holidays a year as opposed to one a year if they two children).

Hope this helps a bit :)

Why is it so cold at the continental divide?

The continental divide is typically located at high elevations in mountainous regions, where temperatures are generally lower due to thinner atmosphere and reduced air pressure. Additionally, the altitude leads to cooler air temperatures and increased precipitation, which can result in snow and colder weather conditions. The geographical features also influence local climate patterns, contributing to the overall chilliness of the area.

What is the effects of destroying the rain forest?

Native People

When the trees are cut down it takes away the habitat of the plants and animals. It also reduces the space for the indigenous people who have lived there for thousands of years. These people used the available resources by hunting, fishing, gathering and farming. This way of life has died out with contact from incomers. Some native groups suffered greatly from diseases which they had no resistance to. People are also tempted into the modern lifestyles in the larger settlements, which can have social problems.

Fauna and Flora

Deforestation has led to the loss of thousands of species of insects, animals and plants. It means that important chemicals that could be used for medical purposes have not been found and will be lost.

The Soil

Removing the vegetation cover exposes the soil to erosion and leaching. Without the branches and leaves to break its fall, heavy tropical storms can quickly wash the soil from even an gentle slope. Cutting down the trees also takes away the roots which helps bind the soils together. The soil can quickly silt up rivers and lakes.

Even if the soil is not completely removed the nutrients may be leached out as the rainfall seeps down through the soil. Soils lose their fertility after only a few years, and this causes problems for commercial arable farmers.
