What are the torque specs for upper control arm mounting bolts?
The torque specifications for upper control arm mounting bolts typically range from 40 to 75 ft-lbs, depending on the specific vehicle make and model. It's essential to consult the vehicle's service manual for the exact torque values, as they can vary significantly. Additionally, always check if the bolts should be torqued while the vehicle is at ride height to ensure proper alignment.
How do you temporarily disable an airbag to remove a steering wheel off of a 1990 BMW 325?
Disconnect battery.
How do you replace the front wheel hub assembly on a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero?
You will need to buy a new wheel hub assembly from your local auto parts store. you will also need a 36 mm socket in additional to the usual tools. I also found that a wheel puller is helpful(but not necessary) you should be able to rent one from your local auto parts store for a refundable deposit.
Take off the wheel.
Remove all break components.
remove 36 mm axle nut.
remove the 3 bolts holding the hub on and unplug the wires from it.
here is where I used the wheel puller to take off the hub. You may be able to remove it using a hammer. (A wheel puller is a lot easier.)
Put the new one on and reconnect everything.
Keep these directions handy so you can do it again next time the bearings go out.
What is the reason for bolts on right front upper control arm?
Those should be for changing it's length for alignment purposes.
Steering wheel shaking with rack and pinion?
makesure rack and pinion frame anchoring bolts are tight if they are the least bit loose it could translate the vibrations to the steering wheel check the rack securing frame bolts or inner tie rod ends for a loose clicking sound by putting car up in the air on jack stands and grabing tire on left and right side and pulling and pushing looking for loose clicking sound if you hear it have another person observe the inner tie rod as you push and pull on the tire to verify sound and location. PS ,outer tie rod ends could be suspect so also look there when pushing and pulling on tire
How do you know if it is your inner or outer rear tie rod that is broke?

Steering wheel shakes from 0-45 mph?
You have a few options here: Get your wheels balanced-cheapest, have a mechanic check your steering components for wear-possibly more expensive or third, drive faster than 45mph everywhere-probably most expensive(fuel and possible speeding tickets)and the least safe. :)
What are indications of bad front wheel bearings Are there instructions on how to replace them?
When the wheel bearing goes, you will usually hear a whining moan noise that will increase as you drive faster, and decrease as you slow down. If the noise is coming from the front, you can determine which wheel it is by steering the car left and right as you travel. Steering the car left causes the weight to shift to the opposite (right) side and vice versa. So if the noise gets louder when you turn right, the left side bearing is worn out...louder when you turn left, the right side is worn out.

How do you replace tie rods on a Windstar?
Procedures:
OUTER TIE ROD ENDNOTE: Pickle fork versus a Pitman Arm Puller - pickle forks will likely destroy the grease boot on the outer tie rod! Pitman arm pullers are an excellent alternative and will not break the rubber
Count the number of threads when unscrewing the end from the inner. When reassembling, you'll want the tie rod end screwed onto the new inner exactly the same number of threads to *mostly* preserve the alignment.
INNER TIE ROD - IF equippedTIP: these boot clamps are a real bear to get at and usually end up being cut. I have used a simple nylon zip-tie as a replacement for the clamp - a whole lot easier to put on.
If you are off by several turns you may not notice much (pulling to one side) but it will effect your tires, so I do recommend a front wheel alignment after a tie rod replacement.
Torque 35-46 ft lb
I will assume outers?
Easiest way is to lift front of van, remove front tires. You will see a nut on the spindle/knuckle end of the tie rod. Remove the cotter pins with a pair of sidecutters and undo the nut. If you can't get it out cut the ends off the cotter pin as close to the nut as possible are turn the nut with a socket (preferably) until it breaks the pin off (neither piece will be reused). At the inner end of the outer tie rod there will be a lock nut which is located on the outer end of the inner tie rod that threads into the outer tie rod. (enough inners & outers??? lol). Break loose the nut 1/4 turn or less (you will use this to mark how far to thread the new outer tie rods on) and the outers should be loose on the inner tie rods. Go back to the outer ends at the knuckle where you earlier removed the cotter pins & nuts and you can use a fork (front end tool) to separate the end. If you don't have a fork, a sharp blow with a hammer on the side of the spindle/knuckle where the tie rod end goes through will usually loosen it. Unthread the tie rod ends, lube the threaded outer end of the inner tie rod and thread on new outer tie rods down to the the lock nuts on the inners without turning the inners ( can use small pipe wrenches on vise grips in a pinch). Install the outer tie rod ends into the spindle holes, tighten and don't forget the cotter pin. Tighten the lock nut that 1/4 or less turn you undid at the beginning and you should be done. GET AN ALIGNMENT!! as you will be quite lucky if the steering wheel stays straight and the tires don't wear out quickly.
loosen lock nut on tie rod, just connect outer tie rod from spindle remove outer tie rod measure from lock nut to end of inner tie rod so on the new one you could put the lock nut back in the same spot, remove rubber boot over inner tie rod, you now need a special tie rod socket to remove inner tie rod or a crow foot and a long extension turn the steering wheel so the shaft on rack and pinion is sticking out so you could work on it remove inner tie rod installer in opposite order don't forget to put the new lock pin on new inner tie rod and alignment done so the toe setting is right if off you could wear you tires out
Electronic power steering goes hard?
I'm assuming you are talking about Chevy's Electronic Power Assist. If the steering goes "hard" then the power steering has gone out. This makes it very hard to turn the wheel if you are not moving or at the very least if you *are* moving you will notice a marked increase in the stiffness of the steering wheel. Having the dealership replace the module will help, although it seems the problem often times returns 6 months to a year later.
I've had mine replaced 2 times in less than 2 years.
How do you change upper control arm bushings for a 1993 Chevy Caprice 305 5.0 engine?
If you're going to replace the UCA bushings in your full-sized Chevy (as I am about to) - now, before you start would also be a good time to take note of the entire front suspension system to see if any other items (coil springs, ball joints, tie rod ends, etc.) will also need to be replaced. The reason, being that since you will have to un-do practically all of the above off, to get the UCA bushings IN. Why do the labor twice? After you've made the assessment, you should also take a realistic assessment of your mechanical skills, and your cache of tools as doing upper control arm bushings is NOT an easy job. And you need first, and foremost: a spring compressor to get the coil spring out of the way safely - and if your Caprice has front struts (mine doesn't - it's an '89) - you'll also need specific tools to remove the struts as well. Once you have to Rotors, calipers, ball joints, shocks, and springs out of the way - you can remove the bolts on either end of the upper control arm, and coax the arm and the bushings out to replace them. If this seems like too scary of a proposition to do yourself, consult your local mechanic. Again - I can't stress enough - if you DON'T have the proper tools, do not attempt to do this job yourself. It can be dangerous! Best of luck!

I had the same problem. The bearings in the swing arm were worn out. This caused slack in the rear end and a misalignment in the u-joint on the drive shaft and made a popping noise.
When changing upper and lower ball joints on 1995 Tahoe do you have to unload the torsion bars?
good question... everyone should have a manual for their vehicle, and the library should have a professional manual available...in the reference section, you'll have to make copies of the important sections...good luck :)
sounds like you have a broken or worn out shock absorber Another possible answer: The Struts can be worn out. Easy way to test struts is to back off the center nut on top of strut. DO NOT TAKE NUT OFF!!!! Push down on strut shaft until it bumps the nut that you did not take off. If the shaft does not come back up, the strut is worn out. If you have difficulty pushing it down, It is ok. note: the reason you do not take the nut off is that if the strut IS bad, you wont be able to get the nut back on the shaft after you push it down. If the nut IS NOT secure on the shaft.. DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR! and another possible answer. Check the right side motor mount. I found mine to be torn and bottoming out on the bolt that goes through the center of the rubber. To check this, get a small pry bar and find a place you can pry up the motor near the mount. All you have to do is lift it 1/4 to 1/2 inch up then let it go fast. If you can duplicate the knocking sound. You found your problem. I found this out after replacing two struts (they were bad anyway) and two strut mount kits.
