Sunroofs and Moonroofs

Have you replaced the seal? Sounds like a silly question, but if the seal is replaced correctly, it shouldn't leak, unless the mechanical componets that move the sun roof up and down are worn out or out of line, or dirt or grime is keeping the sun roof from closing completely. Make any sense?

all power windows etc. have a manual way to close them. check beneath the panel that houses the switch, there may be an Allen screw on what looks like a bearing race. (looks like a bearing race in that you can turn or crank it to close.) or, get a manual for a more detailed description.

After years of trouble with my 2000 Toyota 4 runner sunroof leak, I fixed it!... The drain tubes in the roof run down the window post. If they are clogged the eccess water runs over into the cab. I have tried blowing them out with a air commpressor before. I found that one side was still plugged solid. I used bailing wire to rooter out the tube and then blew air to clear it out.

Open the sunroof and find the four drain holes. Clear any debris. Blow air inside the drain tubes to find out if there is any blockage. Slide the replacement tubing inside the drain hose.

Hi Bob, first of all buy the Bently manual for your year of bug. It is extremely helpful and pretty in depth on fixing things. I just did my wifes '72 and my '75. There is an inner panel you have to un-clip from the sun roof panel on the inside and slide it back and then you can see the tracks on either side of the Sun Roof. The handle by the rear view mirror rotates a gear that moves two externally splined cables back and forth. The Cables are connected to the Sun Roof panel by two semi-fragile pot metal like alum connectors. Either the small gear at the handle has stripped the cable (you should be able to hear a clicking noise), or the connectors are broken. If you can help move the panel back by hand as you turn the handle, then use the handle to finish opening it, then it's probably the stripped cable. If you can see the cables move when turning the handle and the panel doesn't move, then its the cable connectors. You should be able to see the cables on either side move. You will have to by new cables one way or the other. Not cheap. But it's sure nice to have it working in the summer. = Answer == Hi My name is Bob. I live in SE Massachuesetts. The most common problem with the 1999 to 2003 Mercury Cougar sunroof is the motion mechanism breaks away from the cable that pushes and pulls the sunroof open and closed. You can tell if this is the problem with your sunroof because the sunroof motor will whir, but the sunroof stays put, or moves a fraction. This is due to a design flaw, and cannot be fixed. The parts of the sunroof are either welded or riveted together, and do not come apart for service. In short, you have to buy a whole new sunroof. The part # is F8RZ63518A30AB for the sunroof. Google it to your own dismay. Did you check to see if there is a fuse for it? Try to locate an owners manual, they are usually marked what fuses are what or pull the cover off the fuse box(es) and sometimes they are written on the back of the cover what fuse is what. There may be several fuse boxes to locate, like under the dash by where you feet are, or out in the engine compartment.

Yes, if your at the a dealer who sells your brand of car they will be able to install a sunroof. I've personally experienced this before.

You have to over ride the power wires that go to the motor in the sunroof itself. Depending on what type of car and sunroof type that you have, it can either be an hour of work getting to it or just a few minutes. AND this also all depends on weather or not it is you motor. If you hear any noise when you try to move it open or closed, than there is probably something binding in the track stopping the glass from taking its natural route. But if it is the motor... just trust... you need to take it to a professional. Most mechanics won't even bother on sunroofs. They usually hire someone else that specializes in it. BY THE WAY... if you start to take things apart and want to try and fix it yourself, you have to cut the wires, both pos and neg, and take a jumper box and attatch them to either or until it runs in the direction that you need. Once you get that done, you need to MAKE SURE that you have the rubber hoses connected correctly or else you will have water running in your headliner or down your rear quarter pannels which turns it into a major bummer. I just stay the hell away from them.

when it's red, that means the sunroof stays in position when turn off the car. push it in to turn it green. when green, it closes automatically when you shut off the car.

Your switch may have a short. You can also close it manually. There is a small crank with your tire wrench set.

Not sure about your particular make/model, but you should be able to remove the covering on the electric controls and you should see a way to manually crank it with a screwdriver or Allen wrench.

Start by removing the sun visors with a 35 torx driver. Pull off the front pillar plastics, twist you rear view mirror outta the way, Gently pull down the front of your head liner, trying not to crease it. On the sunroof motor were the wire actually raps and unwraps theres a spot for an Allen key (metric). Close the sunroof using this. Start by replacing the switch and magnet if you can, if the don't work replace the motor, i had to replace the motor, available at your local auto wreckers for about $20.

You need to put the roof into vent position. After it is in the vent position push and hold the vent button again until the sunroof gives a little movement. After that happens the roof should run normal.

From everything I've read you will either turn the car off and hold the open or close button (try them both separately on different tries) while starting the car and waiting around ten second and you should hear a noise indicating the reset. This didn't work for my wife's car. On the Cadillac website it said that if your battery has died and you have charged it simply unhook your battery ( I left mine unhooked for approx one minute) and hooked it back up and it worked. To close the sunroof on a PT Cruiser, you have to use an allen wrench or socket to turn the motor manually. The motor might be located at the front of your sunroof.

My Vue uses the smaller blade fuses, I believe that are called mini-bus fuses. There is a larger version used in a lot of Ford products that will not fit in your Vue. If you look in your fuse blocks you should find a few spares provided from the manufacturer. Good Luck.

I do not know how much it would cost to have a factory sunroof installed by a dealer, but I expect it would be a lot more than a a respectable body shop would charge to install an aftermarket one

at the end of the sunroof there is a small rectangular cover, take it down and you will find the bolt to close it manually, just use the proper wrench

I recently had a battery go down on my '02 Odyssey and it fouled my power windows and power door locks. A complete battery disconnect for 30 minutes did not fix it (possibly due to capacitors in the system). I removed the power window switch from the door panel and disconnected it for a mintue or two. Upon reconnecting the switch, all power windows worked. I followed the same steps for the power lock switch in the driver's door and it began working properly upon reconnect. There was circuitry located in each switch and this is likely why the disconnect at these locations worked. I do not have a sunroof, but the principle might hold true. I would attempt to disconnect the sunroof switch at the switch location. There is typically a small cap, flush with the surface, that can be pried open to reveal a screw. For the driver's door lock switch (located in the door handle), the assembly had to be slid towards the door hinge (after removing the screw) to access the wiring behind.

To whom this concerns,

You have to pull the rear headliner down and you can reach in from behind and pull hoses off back of sun roof. You then can take air compressor and blow the lines out and then reinstall. Please make sure the hoses are installed back to factory you do not want the hose just lay anywhere you do not want water sitting in the lines.

my friend, when you open the car with the key control and you'r pressing the botton for more than 3 seconds, the mini cooper automatically opens the sunroof and windows, this just works with the open, if you try to close with the control the sunrooof and the windows stay it will in the same place.
