What is the meaning of the time to repair the roof is when the sun is showing?

This somewhat threadbare old saw is akin to the equally hackneyed maxim "Make hay while the sun shines".

Both are suggesting that you do things now while the opportunity presents itself since another opportunity might not come along for some time, and that procrastination might result in poor results - for instance, waiting to fix the roof after the rain has already leaked through, or waiting to cut the hay after it is too wet and moldy to be of any use, or waiting to pay the phone bill until after the phone line has been cut off.

Why does your sunroof on a 99 Saturn SC2 get stuck?

Just a suggestion but maybe the track is dirty and needs to be cleaned

with the satun sc series, the sunroof is moved by 2 plastic arms, over time they get brittle and break (it should have had that as a recall) but most power windows are the same way you will more then likely have to go online and order a pair (there is a company who makes them out of aluminum that are really nice and fairly cheep about 1 hour to fix

Liberty 2005 sunroof does not close all the way is there a adjustment?

Check the wiring harness for the motor to the sunroof. The harness may be loose and might need adjustment. My sunroof on my 2002 Liberty Limited stopped working and I dropped the headliner and found that there was loose wire. I clicked it back inot place, and it works just fine.

Can you manually close a 1999 Cougar's sunroof if it is stuck open?

I have been servicing all makes of sunroofs for over 30 years. The Cougar sunroof can be closed manually in several ways. The first thing I usually do is remove the top panel so you can see all that you are doing. You can replace the hold down screws and put the panel back in later after the sunroof is shut. The second step is to remove the motor assembly...it is located under the front dome ligh. Just pop out the lens and a couple of screws and you will ses the motor. you may have top take out the sunvisor inside clips on the headliner for a larger work area. Remove the inner trim ring of the headliner around the sunroof opening. REmove the 2 or 3 screws holding int he motor. You may now move the track assemblies manually. There are hold down tabs on the back of the tracks to hold the rear of the glass down in the closed position. once you have the sunrro closed reinstall the motor...this will keep the sunroof panel in the closed position. You will want to remove the sunroof fuse or disconnect the switch so you can not operate the unit again.

I can be e-mailed at madspinner@aol.com

the above answer has been changed since i wrote the response below MJ - July2015

------- no way Mr.MadSpinner, with your "30 years experience" you don't have a clue about cougar sunroofs. I guarantee you have not worked on a cougar before or you would have remembered it. First of all, cougars do not have a glass sunroof, it is a metal panel sunroof or moonroof. Second, the cougars break their sunroofs at the RH track usually because ford made them out of plastic -- the 2001 & 2002 cougar sunroof rails are made of metal because of this flaw. One side will break and then the motor and the cable will then only pull on the other side .

--- So, even if you remove the motor, the sunroof will still not close because the track and pins are broken on one side. The correct answer should be to remove the rubber trim ring inside the car and then using a t-25 torx screwdriver, remove the 4 screws that hold the roof panel onto the frame/track. From the center of the sunroof, they are at the 4 corners of the roof panel facing outward and you may have to push up on the headliner cloth to be able to see them. After removing the sunroof panel, then you will be able to easily see the broken pins and slider --- use the motor to close the sunroof while unlocking and pushing the broken side down the track. Once the shuttle is pushed down the track (or you can remove it also), then you can install the panel and carefully put the 4 torx screws back in place. You can unplug the motor or remove the fuse, so no one can try to open it again.

-- Start looking for another sunroof at junk yards, but only get one out of a 2001 or 2002 cougar with the metal rails and gears. Most junk yards sell them for under $100 and the last one i found in 2014 was only $50. You can install the entire sunroof in your car in about 1 hour. The most difficult part is lowering the headliner and sliding it back out the rear hatchback --- you will use your current car's color sunroof panel and bolt it to the junkyard sunroof frame/motor with those same 4 torx bolts. It may take you 2 hours if you have never removed the visors, coat hooks, map lights, and headliner before. Don't forget to re-connect the rubber rain drain tubes.

How do you fix a leaking sunroof?

We had this problem with my daughter's Toyota Camry. In each corner of the sun roof there are drains, which can get plugged up with debris, which causes the drain gutter of the sun roof to overflow into the inside of the car. Other self help sites recommended using a coat hanger to unplug it or use an air compresser. The wire couldn't get far enough, and we couldn't get a good seal for the air compressor to work. My husband used a tube from a drip irrigation system to clean out the drain. We were able to push the tube in about fifteen feet, if it seemed to get stuck, we'd blow on the tube. The irrigation tube was flexible enough to curve around the inside of the car, and yet stiff enough to take pushing. At the beginning he used a needle nose vise grip to push it into the drain hole. In order to check and see whether the drains work, we put water and food coloring into a squeeze bottle like dish soap comes in ( with a pop up dispenser top) This allows you to squirt the liquid into the gutter around the sunroof with out making it over flow. You then have your partner watch out side the car to see if the colored water comes out. You want to do this again after you've clean out the drain to make sure you've gotten all the debris out.

OK, I give up. My '99 Camry is soaking the front passenger floor every time it rains. But I can't locate the four sunroof drains. Did you have to remove any parts to see the drains? I know they are in there somewhere, but where??

I found the drains in the corners of the sunroof. Look for small holes against the front of the sun roof enclosure. Clearing them solved my two year old leaking problem. I used the stiff, mono filament line that is used for weed whackers to snake through the length of the drains and clear the dirt and debris that were blocking them. The water exits from below the car behind the front wheel well. Do like they say above and pour a glass of water in the sun roof enclosure to check your success.

How do you fix the sunroof motor of a 98 Saturn SC2?

the sunroof motor is simple to replace, but may be time consuming. you first have to remove the headliner. take all the trim holding the headliner off to bring the liner down. once you are inside the headliner, remove the two screws holding the sunroof control assembly. Disconnect the wireing harness from the motor. 3 screws hold the motor in place. Before removing the motor, make sure the sunroof is closed and sealed shut. the motor is timed to the position of the sunroof. Do not turn the motor gear under any circumstance. once the motor is out, inspect the drive cables for any visible wear. Installation of a new motor is just the opposite of removal. the new motor should come pre-timed to the "Closed" position.

Is there a difference between a sunroof and a moonroof or are they both the same thing?

A sunroof is opaque (usually flush metal with the body color on the outside). This roof can either tilt open to vent, slide open to let in light, or both. It is called a sunroof because the opacity prevents the sun from heating up the vehicle. These have existed for quite some time. In the 1970s, Ford introduced a glass sunroof that they named the Moonroof (actually, the American Sunroof Company, the company that made all domestic sunroofs and now known as American Specialty Cars invented it, but Ford was the first to install it). So to answer the question, a moonroof is a sunroof made of glass. The problem is, the distinction is becoming lost as more and more people use it incorrectly, Most people today just consider any sort of hole in the roof a sunroof. But in the strictest sense, sunroof=metal, moonroof=glass.

How can you manually close your 97 Saturn SC2 Sunroof that is stuck open?

There are two little hydraulics at the front of your sunroof. One on the left and one on the right. They sit at about a 45 degree angle. Take something like a window scraper, that's what I use and push on the backside of the hydraulic. It will push in and you will feel your sunroof go down slightly. Do the same thing to the other side. Get out of your car and you should then be able to push the sunroof the rest of the way down from outside of the car. Note: If it doesn't push down easy don't force it or you will break the glass.

How do you fix a moonroof on a Pontiac Sunfire?

be more specific

it depends on what is wrong with your sunroof if the sunroof is cocked and wont close all the way the way to do it is to take off ur sunvisors first and drop the padding on the top of car by the switch to open and close the roof. you will need a star bit and take off the motor for the sunroof and drop it down it operates on a snake wire and sometimes gets of track. i pushed mine all the way back when the motor was dropped and then made sure that i made the motor indicate that it was all the way open. then put the motor back up and try to close it. this should fix the cocked problem

How do you replace sunroof cable Mercedes 450sel?

Remove the Sunroof inner cover by prying down the front. This will expose the underside of the sunroof. Remove the keeper from the shaft in the center front. This is the end of the cable. Activate the sunroof motor and the cable will be forced out the front. There is about 12 inches of solid shaft then the cable begins. It is messy! ! ! . When the cable stops moving out, pull it out with your hands. To install a new cable, grease it, slide the end down the tube until it stops, then press the motor switch and draw the cable into the feeder tube to a length appropriate to match up with the position of the sunroof cable mounting bracket, insert the cable and replace the locking pin.
