How many patients does autism speaks have a year?

Autism Speaks doesn't have patients because it is a charity, not a hospital or care home.

Note: Autism Speaks is largely regarded as a hate group by Autistic people and their allies due to the harm they cause to Autistic people via propaganda they use to increase profits, due to the abusive treatment practices they support, also they support eugenics and genocide through supporting a 'cure'.

Can a 16 year old in California decide not to go to school when they have been in the IEP program since first grade?

It can be discouraging to be in the special needs category at school, but what other things can you do to make your future better?

Having an IEP is supposed to help you through school, not hurt your chances for a better life in the future. Depending on your disability, there may be other ways to cope, but your parents will have to be diligent and perhaps aggressive in finding them.

In any case, like any other person, you have to have a plan to obtain training and skills so that you can hold a job, pay rent and support yourself as an adult. Ask your school counselor, check into the requirements of Job Corps, ask about obtaining a GED and so on. You should not plan to stay home and hang out.

Would Employers hire an Autistic?

Employers do hire Autistic people, however normally when they do they don't realize that the person is Autistic. There is a lot of prejudice against Autistic people so even in areas where there are discrimination laws in place Autistic people often cannot find work, Autistic people normally have to hide their Autism from employers to avoid facing discrimination.

How do you get conservatorship of adult son with autism?

I'm going thru this process now with my daughter who will be 18 in November. We went to a conference thru our local Family Resource Center where we heard information about trusts, wills and conservatorships. We ended up hiring the attorney that gave the conference because we trusted him and he also has a son with special needs. It runs about $1500 if you go thru an attorney. You can file a conservatorship on your own but it can be complicated and if you leave out a step it takes a lot longer to complete the process.

There are two types of conservatorship; limited and general. Limited is for those individuals that are higher functioning and can maintain some independence from their family. General is for those that are lower functioning and will never be able to make decisions on their own maybe because they can not speak or don't understand what's going on or for some other reason will not be able to speak or make decisions about their life, finances, etc. I recommend that you get a consult from an attorney who specializes in special needs law. There are many that will do free consults. I would use someone that you trust and feel comfortable with. Ask for references.

You can also ask other parents of special needs adults in your area where they went, sometimes you can network with other families via parent support groups in your area or by contacting your local Family Resource Center and see if they have a family network program in which they give out phone numbers of other families with kids/adults on the spectrum and you can contact some to see what they did and if they used an attorney, who they used.

How many people in the UK have Asperger's Syndrome?

POPULATION: By mid-2007, the population of the UK was estimated to have grown to 60,975,000.

---> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom#Population

BEST STUDY: The SNAP Project, using the best scientists and assessment tools available, attempted to accurately count the number of people with different types of Autism across a section of London children. The methodology used and the sample size (56,000) make it easily the best attempt to-date.

---> http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16844490?dopt=AbstractPlus

FINDINGS: The prevalence of childhood autism was 38.9 per 10,000 (Kanner's Autism, Classic Autism) and that of other ASD's was 77.2 per 10,000 (HFA, Asperger's, PDD-NOS), making the total prevalence of all ASDs ('the whole spectrum') equal 116.1 per 10,000.

AGGREGATION: HFA and PDD-NOS are now though of broadly as tantamount to Asperger's if not indeed one and the same - the distinction continues to blur further with every significant report from the very leading experts such as Prof Attwood, Simon Baron-Cohen, etc.

THEREFORE: 470,727 would be a fairly reliable estimate of the total population of the UK that has Asperger's Syndrome... in one form or another.

[Hope that helps. I know it is a huge number and even I who have AS have difficulty contemplating such a vast hidden river of suffering - so many people being undiagnosed and not likely to be allowed for and accommodated satisfactorily. Current evidence (some still anecdotal) suggests that up to 50% of school children who are bullied at school daily and at least one third of the UK's real homeless are drawn from that incredible group of differently-wired people... including my own brilliant wonderful brother somewhere in Brompton whom I have often feared for - and not without justification at times.]

Can people with Asperger's syndrome recognize their own symptoms?

Yes! I have Aspergers and always suspected that I was on the autism spectrum. Formal diagnosis has since confirmed it. V briefly I strongly dislike social situations unless with people I know well; loud noises; lack of routine & spontaneity; responsibility for others; strong emotional reactions by others; etc. I like logic and order; and get obsessed with certain topics, which I read about/research tirelessly. Aspergers has as many positives as negatives, in my experience.

Yes, its still possible, but it will all depend on how you conduct your interview. If you dont make eye contact, dont keep conversations together, or dont talk smoothly or clearly, then you wont be taken seriously. Also, a few things to remember that are not mentioned on the commando pamphlet: * If you select commando as you job preference, then infanty must be your second preference. * You MUST get daily excercise or do daily hard work to be taken seriously * You should be a member of a compeditive team, or at least play a compeditive sport. * Your motivations should stand clear as someone aiming to be a professional rather than a cowboy looking for adventure. * Its recommended that you take up studying engineering or mechanics at TAFE college. these courses are short, can be studied part time, evenings, and one day a week, plus show some consistancy for relevant material on your behalf.
