What do yellow spots on the whites of your eyes mean?

The yellow spots are caused from tiny blood vessels that have ruptured (a bruise) The blood is starting to break down and is being resorbed by the body. So it's like a bruise where at first it is blue, then green, then yellow then back to normal only because the vessels of the eye are so superficial it would be red then yellow.

If the entire white of the eye (called the sclera) is yellow then you're in big trouble. This is called icterus or jaundice and it means that 70% of your liver is kind of toast!

Now if the yellow or brown spots are in the iris, this indicates toxins in specific parts of the body (some call them drug spots). An entire science has evolved around this called Iridology. Fascinating stuff. I use these signs to give me an idea of what organs may be involved in disease processes when I examine my animal and human patients.

What is rasa shastra in Ayurveda?

Although mention of Rasa compounds (Copper, Gold and Bitumen) are mentioned in the Caraka Samhita (ancient treaties on Ayurveda) there is not much text available on this subject that has been translated into English. There are many introductory books about this science available but most are authored by modern Ayurveda physicians that regurgitate their contemporaries.

Two of the most useful works available in English at this time are: Rasamritam by Dr. Damodar Joshi & Rasa - Jala-Nidhi (Ocean of Indian Chemistry, Medicine & Alchemy).

Rasa is Mercury (Quicksilver), this compound being the master ingredient in the most powerful of remedies. Classically, there are over sixty compounds listed as being beneficial in the treatment of serious diseases, these include: Gold, Emerald, Mica, Asbestos, Magnetic Iron Ore and Sulphur.

Each substance has a specific treatment of purification assigned to it, rendering it safe for human consumption. These processes are quite often complicated, requiring reduction of the material to a fine substance and exposure to high temperature. After final processing these now reduced materials are combined with either herbal decoctions / extractions or other Rasa substances. These combinations of various ingredients become the Final Rasa medicines.

For those that want to get a better understanding of these compounds and like to intake information visually, there is a great free PDF download at: www.neterapublishing.com website. This website also offers a detailed DVD presentation on how to process various Rasa compounds. It is the science and art of ancient pharmacology and alchemy in Ayurveda.

Is tourism a boon or curse?

ANSWER

I think it is definitely a boon. I have a patient who got a full dental treatment quote in the U.S. for about 27,000 USD. The equivalent treatment in Mexico was around 15,000 USD plus of course travel costs which was around 2,000 USD (all inclusive with flight, all inclusive) so there was a savings of 10,000 USD. Saving 10,000 USD cannot be considered a curse! But of course it really depends on the case at hand.
