Car Stalling Problems

When your car’s engine stops when it’s in idle or is accelerating, then your car has stalled. Almost all stalling problems stem from poor fuel-gas mixture, out-of-tune fuel injection or fuel contaminants.

Why does my alfa romero gtv idle erratically even when warm?

Because you should have bought a Fiat?

"Another View". Alfa Romeo, along with many other vehicles inc Fiat have numerous sensors witch help the engine run at its best. Most probable list goes : 1 idle sensor. 2 maf sensor. 3. variator. Best option is to get ECU analized witch will point out exactly witch sensor is at fault or indeed some other problem.

Why would your car rev up and shake?

If the rpms are above normal the most likely problem is a vacuum leak at the intake side of the engine. This condition will also typically cause a rough running situation at idle. Another thing that could cause a car to rev up and shake is a bad ecc(computer).

also check your motor mounts if you have an old car.

What would cause your 1995 Volkswagen Jetta to cut off when you stop or Idle?

One item on your car to look at would be it's alternator, which may need to be replaced.

When it begins to shut itself off, or idle real hard, try pressing your foot on the gas pedal, to keep the engine busy.

Why is there a whistling sound coming from somewhere near the transmission that seems to cause my engine to stall while ideling in park but not while in drive?

The whistling sound coming from near the transmission could be a problem with a speed sensor. It is possible that the speed sensor is attached only at one end. This sensor has two places where it is attached.

What could cause a 1992 Plymouth Voyager with 190000 miles and a rebuilt transmission to stall when put in gear?

I've had my '97 Plymouth Voyager stall going into gear (from park) when the transmission fluid was really low (down more than a quart). I've also had that same van stall when an O-ring in the distributer got bungled up, presumably from spraying the engine with a pressurized hose. Oops :)

The distributor problem was very hard to diagnose.

Your car is starting up but not turning over could no gas be the reason?

I'm guessing that you mean it turns over but wont start. Anyway, two essential things that a car needs to run is fire and fuel. Check to make sure there is spark to the cylinders and also make sure there is fueling being supplied to the injectors or carburetor. You can check the fuel by pressing the "valve stem" that located in the return line from the injectors. It should have a little pressure to it.

Why does your 2000 Prizm with only 44000 miles stall when you start it?

In my case it ended up to be a dirty fuel filter. Unfortunately, the fuel filter is inside the fuel tank.

1994 ROVER 214i 8v starts and runs fine but after about 8 minutes engine cuts out and wont start again until an hour or two later?

Answer

It could be a partially blocked fuel filter that fills with sediment after it's run a while then the sediment settles back after the engine is off. Another option would be heat failure in one of the electronic devices such as an ICM or other electronic device.

What does it mean when your engine sputters and you have white smoke coming from you tail pipes?

White smoke coming from your tail pipe often indicates an issue with your coolant. The smoke comes from burning coolant. The engine sputters and white smoke is likely an issue with the head gasket.

1992 Chevrolet Silverado 65 diesel just quit running was normal a minute before turned it off and tried to start and nothing what could be wrong?

First check the fuel filter to see if you have fuel in it. If no fuel present check the fuel pickup pump, it is on the inside frame rail under the driver side of the cab. If filter is full the pcm control module is the next item to check, it is down under the front of the intake right next to the fuel injector pump. this is best done by a shop because the pcm is 2 -300 bucks and is hard to remove. If you replace it get an extension wire kit for it because it is electronic and the place it is mounted is very hot. I lost 2 of them before moving it to the fenderwell. Chevy knows this but will not tell you.

And third is the fuel injector pump this is about 1500 bucks I will not even attempt this one

Why would there be a delay when shifting your car into reverse?

The linkage in the transmition is loose.

I am having the same problem. I have brought the car in 3 times. They tell me there is nothing wrong, obviously they have not spent much time looking at the car, this happens to me 25% of the time. HELP!!!

I am still having the same problem. The VW dealership had it for over a week and when I got it back they had put a 5 centimetre scratch on the hood and cracked my windshield, then proceeded to tell me that it was there when I brought the car in. They have also told me that what i perceive to be the car having problems shifting gears, is just the car "downshifting" because it's a "low-emissions vehicle". Well, I'm still having the same problems and I haven't gotten any answers form the dealership. This is the first and last VW I'll ever own. The lack of customer service is appalling at the two dealerships I've dealt with.

Why would your car just suddenly die on its own you will be driving like normal then when you come to a stop or even while driving it will just die please help?

If you have a manual transmission, then simply the car's engine dies because you release the clutch too quicly. If your car is automatic than you might have engine or transmission problems.

Your Rover 416 V reg cuts out when going through a large puddle can anyone explain why?

This was happening to me too for a couple of years. It turns out that there was a crack in the coil. Not sure what the coil is or does but I haven't had a problem since the mechanic changed it.
