Why would a car intermittently lose power when freeway driving then start after sitting for an hour?
Fuel filter is plugged or fuel line is cinked, after highway driving where fuel flow is greatest the pump cannot maintaine the flow and engine "runs out of gas" after an hour the fuel line is full again by gravity.
Run with a greater than half a tank until you get it fixed
You might have a faulty TFI (Thick Film Integrated) ignition module. Sometimes it is located on the distributor and sometimes attached to the engine compartment of the vehicle. If it is damaged and becomes overheated, the module will intermittently lose power as it heats up and then finally die on you. It takes about an hour for the module to cool down.
My guess is the fuel filter and or pump. the faster you go, the more fuel your engine requires. Thus, if the flow is restricted your engine may stall.
I'm having the same trouble - please e-mail me if you ever found out the trouble to yours. rzsiemperperdido@sbcglobal.net
What could be the problem when engine starts and runs when given gas but stalls at idle?
vacuum leak?
Would a bad fuel filter cause your engine to stall while driving or idling?
Yupp
Clogged fuel filter. Hole in the gas line.
How do you stop all the lights from flickering on a 1992 Lincoln Town Car?
Make sure the battery cables are clean and run a good ground from the body to the negative battery cable
flickering bright or dull? do they flicker only when motor is running? if they flicker only when the motor is running and are full brightness it is probably voltage regulator.i need more info on problem
well.....this might help,
I have a 93 mx3 with the v6 from the mx6 swapped. But anyway...I had the same distributor issue on my 1.8 v6. Replaced the distributor, then literally about a mile away from the shop is stopped working again. First question, do you have platinum plugs in there right now? if you do... get rid of them. they help burn out the distributor. second. I found that there alot of time is faulty wiring on the actual harness leading to the distributor. Ever since i swapped the engine however I have not had that issue. also make sure you are using a genuine Mazda distributor. Aftermarket ones or remans don't seem to last as long. I have a friend who works at Mazda and that is what they say. Also have a friend that owns a 95 ford probe v6 and he has gone through 5 distributors, and when he put the Mazda one on he hasn't had an issue yet. hope that helps. sorry for sloppy typing.
the primary thing to look at in your situation is the ignition module; the conditions you described sound like it is bad. when it cools down... it works. this so, try replacing it, or there is a remidy using a GM 4pin module (actually 5, the fith is the mounting ground) that is outlined in mx3 website in the forums, and probetalk... hope this is helpful to set you in the right direction!
>>>My MX6 dies aftewr about 20 minutes driving. An electrical specialist diagnosed the ignition module in the distributor. When it gets hot, it fails.
I am an auto tech and have been working on a 98 mpv 3.0l and cannot seem to get a good aftermarket Distributor for it. I am on the 3rd one now. 2nd one came damaged because it wasnt boxed very good.( All the same brand)
The problem seems to happen after the diagnostic connector is grounded to check the timing. After that it seems to weaken something in the Distributor and the the car will only run for a minute or 2 until the dist. heats up then it stalls and won't start until it cools down. I have spoke to someone from the company tech line and he had no answer for me.
The customer does not have a lot of money to spend on this old vehicle but it looks like we will have to go to Mazda to get something that will last. Way too much junk out there these days.
Now I have to go figure out why my new carpet cleaner won't run. WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO QUALITY CONTROL !!!!!!!
Can bad universal joints cause the motor to stall?
No.
Well, maybe in an extreme case assuming you can't push the vehicle in neutral and you have a manual transmission.....
Why would 93 explorer stall when driving but will idle ok?
have you checked your FUEL FILTER lately? Or the fuel pump may be going out. Can you describe it if feels like it is NOT getting fuel? Or is it stumbling like it is getting too much fuel? Does it idle in Park, Drive, Reverse? The more info you can post the better answer or leads you will get to solving your problem.
Why would pump stay running longer than 10 seconds when trying to start?
the pump stays running as long as it needs to to keep the pressure up. If you think it should not, check for pressure leaks in the fuel system.
Does a 1994 Cherokee sport have a carburetor?
These days all cars come with fuel injection.
Cars with fuel injection do not have a carb.
They do have a throttle body, which controls the air entering the engine, but unlike a carb, do not meter the fuel at the same time.
Why does my alfa romero gtv idle erratically even when warm?
Because you should have bought a Fiat?
"Another View". Alfa Romeo, along with many other vehicles inc Fiat have numerous sensors witch help the engine run at its best. Most probable list goes : 1 idle sensor. 2 maf sensor. 3. variator. Best option is to get ECU analized witch will point out exactly witch sensor is at fault or indeed some other problem.
Why would your car rev up and shake?
If the rpms are above normal the most likely problem is a vacuum leak at the intake side of the engine. This condition will also typically cause a rough running situation at idle. Another thing that could cause a car to rev up and shake is a bad ecc(computer).
also check your motor mounts if you have an old car.
What would cause your 1995 Volkswagen Jetta to cut off when you stop or Idle?
One item on your car to look at would be it's alternator, which may need to be replaced.
When it begins to shut itself off, or idle real hard, try pressing your foot on the gas pedal, to keep the engine busy.
The whistling sound coming from near the transmission could be a problem with a speed sensor. It is possible that the speed sensor is attached only at one end. This sensor has two places where it is attached.
I've had my '97 Plymouth Voyager stall going into gear (from park) when the transmission fluid was really low (down more than a quart). I've also had that same van stall when an O-ring in the distributer got bungled up, presumably from spraying the engine with a pressurized hose. Oops :)
The distributor problem was very hard to diagnose.
The code p1391 stands for intermittent loss of CMP or CKP-what does CMP and CKP stand for?
CMP-camshaft position sensor
CKP-crankshaft position sensor
CMP-camshaft position sensor
CKP-crankshaft position sensor
i had van in my garage doing the same thing and found THE WIRE FROM THE
CRANK-SENSOR WAS TOUCHING PULLEY WHEN TURNING !
CHECK ALL WIRES AROUND THIS FAN BELT AREA ,AROUND BOTTOM BELT PULLEY, WHERE THE BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE GOES ON TO MOTOR MAKE SURE NO WIRES ARE BROKEN OR FRAILED OR BARE SPOTS ON WIRES TOUCHING METAL !
DANNY COLEMAN
the pick up coil could be bad because when the pickup coil gets hot it will cut off the car and you will have to wait till it cools off.
Your car is starting up but not turning over could no gas be the reason?
I'm guessing that you mean it turns over but wont start. Anyway, two essential things that a car needs to run is fire and fuel. Check to make sure there is spark to the cylinders and also make sure there is fueling being supplied to the injectors or carburetor. You can check the fuel by pressing the "valve stem" that located in the return line from the injectors. It should have a little pressure to it.
my cars doing the same thing and iv been told its the ht leads that need replaceing, after iv just changed my spark plugs too
What causes uneven idle in my 97 Cougar 46L when transmission is engaged slow then fast then slow?
Because its broken get another one
Why does your 2000 Prizm with only 44000 miles stall when you start it?
In my case it ended up to be a dirty fuel filter. Unfortunately, the fuel filter is inside the fuel tank.
It could be a partially blocked fuel filter that fills with sediment after it's run a while then the sediment settles back after the engine is off. Another option would be heat failure in one of the electronic devices such as an ICM or other electronic device.
