Car Starting Problems

It is quite possible that the fuel pump has failed,hard to know for sure not knowing the mileage and perhaps other symptoms.

The intake and exhaust pushrods are different lengths. If you mix them up you can cause bent valves upon the first crank which would cause a no compression condition.

is the head stock on the new starter the same as the old one if not you may want to change the head stocks

Check the battery. I have a 1991 that sat in a storage unit for two years. Dead battery. Bought a new battery and she fired right up!

Check timing belt

I recommend you getting a repair manual at your local automotive store.

If everything was fine before the new belt was fitted then the most obvious answer is that the timing belt has been fitted incorrectly and the timing is wrong.

Probably a bad starter solenoid.

seized engine?

defective or disconnected solenoid?

starter not grounded?

starter is engaging a damaged gear?

I can't answer it but I have the same thing happening right now with my 2004. First the directional arrows on the dash go on and off, then the door locks and alarm and it won't start while it is doing all that.

First you have to overcome inertia. At rest it takes 3 to 6 times more energy to get a wheel rolling than it does to maintain revolutions.

your problem is more than like the automatic choke.....they fail alot in the older model 6cyl

If the lights in the car come on, then at least part of the system is getting power. Check the battery connections again. Then check the starter solenoid and starter to insure that they are getting power and are working properly.

I also have a equinox with a key that does not work properly hard to turn difficult to get out. my dealer Tec is stubbornly maintaining it all in the tumblers. But I maintain thats it is in the electrical some where between the shifter and the key cylinder. I will also hang in stubbornly till it is fixed and then tell you what is wrong and how to fix it. Where are the GM engineers in all this

If both ends of the positive and negative battery cables are clean and tight, the starter may be telling you it is on its way out.

Probably. The alternator and voltage regulator may be fried, and the battery ruined. Take the battery to a battery shop and have them test it.

It turns out that the fuel injectors were clogged.

I had the same problem with a jeep wrangler and I replaced the throttle position sensor and that solved my problem.
