Engine cranks but won't start on a 1994 Ford Escort?
There are a couple reasons that your escort will crank but not start. The first is that the engine is getting no fuel. This could be caused by the fuel pump failing or a block in the line. If you turn your key forward to the click right before it turns over, and the fuel pump is operating, you should be able to hear a faint humming coming from your gas tank or somewhere between the fuel tank and engine. Another reason could be that it is getting no spark. This could be caused by a faulty wire or a faulty ignition coil, ingnition relay, or loose distributor cap. Another reason your car would crank but not start would be no compression. Caused by a leaky gasket or head being cracked.
How do you repair a 1992 Taurus that will not start with the key but will jump from the solenoid?
It really needs to be diagnoised since it can be a wire or the ignition switch itself.
== == The first and easiest thing to check is the wire harness that connects your main 12V DC power to your fuse panel under the dash.
1.Open the hood. Follow the positive lead of the battery to a bolt post on the firewall behind the battery. (it may be partially blocked by large groupings of wires) It should have a red plastic cap covering it. (about the size of a quarter) This is a junction point for all of your power circuits. Below the red cap is a wire harness with 4 wires coming out of it. Two of these wires go through the firewall to the fuse panel. 2. Once you have located these wires, put your key in the ignition, turn it to start and turn your headlight switch to the on position. Go back under the hood, grab hold of the four wires and start to wiggle them around to see if your headlights come on. If you manage to get the headlights to come on, so will your radio, instrument cluster and your van will start. (the ignition coil is on the same circuit as the radio, headlights, etc.) Now you know that you have a loose connection through the firewall and most likely a loose connection into the back of your fuse panel or at the junction point. If this doesn't help, see the next paragraphs.
These are normal symptoms of a bad Fusible Link from the battery. Connected to the battery on the positive side are several wires OR they are connected to the starter these wires have small colored bulbs (normally black, red, yellow, white, rust) with a number on the outside. These are fuses and you need to test them for voltage using a sewing needle. Push the needle into the wire and test for 12 volts on both sides of the bulb. A bad Ignition switch can also cause this. If the connections that are not live are un-switched (IE: Always on; interior lights, radio power 2, power door locks, ECM 2 headlights, brake lights, parking lights) then this is not the problem. If they are switched (IE: Power windows, radio power 1, and other things that only work with the key on) then you need to check the ignition switch to make sure it is putting out power on all the correct wires (you need a wiring diagram for this) Less normal is a bad connection in the fuse box, that takes a great deal more testing than can be described here. (try the first 2 paragraphs before you look for anything else)
try haveing the relay/solinoid checked. mostly i think you may need to replace the relay. the relay clicking usually is a sign its dieing.
check the ground for the battery, sounds like the car is grounding itself out right away. even if the ground feels like it is attached solid it could still have enough corrosion inside the wire to cause it to ground out.
crankshaft-camshaft timing, clogged exhaust, plugged intake, intake manifold leak.
A 91 Sunbird should be fuel injected and not have a carburetor. It sounds like an ignition problem. No spark. Pull a spark plug wire off and connect a spark tester (between 10 and 20 dollars). Have someone try starting the car and watch the tester to see if it lights. If it does not, then you have a faulty ignition system. It could also be a faulty fuel injector. If the fuel injector leaks, there is too much fuel going into the engine. This can cause a vapor lock in the cylinder(s). Hope this helps.
u need to replace the starter solenoid
Jinlun 50 scooter turns over good starts for a few seconds then dies and willnot start again?
check the carb...then adjust the valves...
If the battery is good and the starter is good, then you must have a wire disconnected somewhere.
How do you fit vauxhall combo starter motor?
This is how to remove it..... fitting is same but in reverse.
First, remove the battery, taking off the negative connection first.
Remove the 4 bolts holding the battery tray in place (13mm socket)
Underneath the car, at the back of the engine, remove the pozi drive screw holding the LT lead to the back of the solenoid, remove the top nut connecting the thick cable to the back of solenoid (I found this easier to do once the starter was hanging loose)
Back above the engine, loosen the 19mm bolt that holds the starter motor to the gearbox (it's a tight squeeze to get access to it)
Then back underneath, loosen the bottom starter motor bolt (14mm)
Back above, remove the 19mm bolt, underneath again and while supporting the starter, remove the 14mm bolt.
The starter can then be jiggled about to remove it completely.
Try turning on the key for a couple seconds and see if it will start then. Sometimes a fuel pump doesn't build enough pressure and isn't holding pressure when you try to crank the enigine. If that's what's going on, you shouldn't worry about it.
Don't replace the switch yet; I would say that it sounds more like a battery cable/battery ground connection. I would recheck all these connections plus I would really inspect the starter solenoid and its connection. Power can still flow thru but the starter motor requires much more power than accessories so any weak connection will prevent your car from starting. The starter solenoid sits on top of the starter and was probably replaced as a unit, but just because its new does not mean it is not defective. Check it out.
WHAT DOES THE CAR DO WHEN YOU TRY TO START IT? NOTHING? JUST CRANKS? CLICKS,FAST/SINGLE?
Check for fusible link, sometimes located close to battery, if it goes bad you will not get any power any wher. Battery could be dead..
Sounds like you flooded it. Pop the plugs out and let the gas evaporate and try it again.
Why does your car starter click with keys out?
i have a 2007 chevy cobalt.it only has 17000 miles on it. i had a remote car starter put in a year and ahalf ago. i never had a problem. now when i start my car it makes a clicking noise.the noise goes away after a few seconds and i can still drive the car.
Your 2002 mustang will not start without a jump but after it starts everything is fine?
you need a new battery yours does not hold its charge for the cranking amps needed or you have a dead cell in it.
When I try to start my 84 feiro it turn over but won't start?
More information is needed. Does the engine turn over, but not start? Have you checked for gas and spark?
Check to ensure it hasn't jumped time. Have a ASE certified mechanic check this...
If truck won't start and the battery and starter are good and has a funny sound?
If it makes a k-k-k-k-k-k sound, then it might be that the battery's dead.
What would cause a 40amp ignition batt fuse to blow on a 97 Malibu?
There is a sort somewhere in the starting system
hereTry these two things to confirm its the alternator. First have your battery check, sounds as if there is a drained cell.( if this is the case try jump starting car and letting it run for 5 - 10 minutes before shutting off car and doing a restart.) Second thing, was the alternator check at the part store before you left, it could have a bad bendix in it and have to be returned.
Also try the main relay I had the same issue and its the main relay that sends fuel it is located on the firewall to the right of the steering column.
