Car Starting Problems

If you go under the passenger side fender well and lift up the back part of the rubber skirt that protects the enging you'll be looking dead at it. for a reference of what it looks like, look up a picture online.

Theclackerty clack noise is caused by the small gaps in between the separate rails of the track. The tracks our days are built closer together, so there is less of a gap and less noise.

We have just replaced the engine, distributor, plugs and the ignitor, a few other nuts and bolts, it will turn over, and it's started for a second of two, but can't get it to stay running. Our mechanic wants an arm and a leg to even look at it, if anyone can help please let me know, or if you have any questions you can post them here and I'll answer, thank you so much.

If you mean that the starter keeps spinning after the vehicle starts), the solenoid/relay switch is not releasing. In the START position, the relay spins the starter to start the engine and should release when the key is moved from START to RUN. Probably needs to be cleaned or replaced.

Many possibilities. Fuel flow problem (fuel pump, clogged line, fuel injectors) Contaminated fuel. No spark or weak spark (bad plug, wires, electronic ignition module) No air flow (Clogged intake, clogged filter) Bad timing belt/chain (I can't remember which one a '93 has).

Check to make sure the fuel reset in the truck has not been tripped and needs to be reset. Look in your manual to see where it is located.

It could be two things wrong, the first thing to check would be your starter and the other would be your solenoid.

take a hammer and tap on your starter, (sometimes that helps)

You have enough battery power to power the radio, but not enough to turn over your engine. CHeck battery.

i had this problem most likely your fuel pump is done and needs to be replaced

Ignition Module, also, TESTED?? how did you test the coil ... I've seen "tested" coils that didn't work... read up on it. Everyone should have a manual for their vehicle, and a professional shop manual should be available at your local library for diagnostic procedures etc, just make copies of the right pages, as they are usually REFERENCE only...read up and good luck :)

My Pontiac Sunbird wasn't starting for a friend of mine, and I had never had the problem. But I figured out that you have to be in First gear to start it, so check that. Also there might be a bad starter or something like that. Hope that helps

That could be a timing issue or even a bad cell in you battery, but the most likely cause is a worn starter - cheep to replace and a good peice of mind fix. Starters act like that when the bushing go bad.

Automatic transmission interlock - try with foot on brake and emergency brake set holding the ignition switch in start position, shifting transmission from park to neutral and wiggling it around. If that works, could be adjustment or bad interlock switch.

Manual transmission, clutch safety interlock may be bad.
